Mason needs to turn DOWN that keyboard and blend it back in with the band. I'm up here in 440 and it was WAY too loud. Other than that, I feel like we were treated to an incredible concert band on the field. Some fantastic playing especially in the woodwinds!

I think they’re talking about strictly the songs being available for bands, I wouldn’t know if the people that hold those songs’ rights are particularly strict or not, I wouldn’t imagine so, but again I have no clue Right. I've seen a couple hundred marching band shows each year for seven years running, and never heard either song performed. This year, I've heard each multiple times. How does the word get out to directors about what tunes are newly available for them to use? Or was there something else in the culture at large that made that music of interest? (Like how the Freddie Mercury biography got everyone to play Queen the next year.) Assigning some of the in-the-know peoples of this forum to make a list of newly available music selections for bands would be fantastic👏👏

Not sure if I'm just imagining it, but I swear Mason was better at the Indy Super Regional a few weeks ago. Their sound is a bit tiny sounding in comparison to some of the previous bands that performed. I don’t know. Except for the occasional brass hero sticking out (everyone has a few) I thought the ensemble sounds was outstanding. Wonderful music effects moments. They will definitely clean up very well Saturday night !

But maybe it was a dream because I’ve wanted to hear a band play it for so long hahaha

Mason's show feels to me not so much like Top Gun as like an alternate version of the film made from scraps that were left on the cutting room floor.
(And I was never that big a fan of Top Gun.)

It certainly is possible that I just missed earlier covers of these songs by virtue of not having listened to the right bands.

Just now seeing some close up pictures of Mason. From the high cam video I had no idea they were dressed in fatigues. Interesting.

That alto soloist from Center Grove is quite good.

Ooh contra feature!! I’m loving Center Grove tonight! Though the props do make the band look a little small. That guard is phenomenal though!
Were these flower props used in another show? Possibly also Center Grove? They feel familiar. I recall them being blue, though.

Man, I'm really enjoying that Mason music book. Woodwinds are still trolling us with their talent. I actually don't mind the flyovers at all like some others have mentioned. Given it's a Top Gun show, I'd be a bit disappointed if there weren't any flyovers or aerial effects. I like that they took their visual design vertical. I will agree on the point about the uniforms, though. They really did blend so much with the turf that it was hard to read visual, though I suppose it is much easier to do in a live setting. Also, agree with Montoya. Where's my Take My Breath Away moment??

I’m just glad all the red balls are finally gone 😂

That was one of my favorites of that year. Thanks!

It really makes me wish there was an additional acknowledgment for color guard (even if it didn’t factor into the score any).

Hey Box5 - this end zone view of MPLT is kind of cool, but I'd really like to see the performance from the front...

Why are there so many issues with Box5 putting the broadcast on the right screen/camera...

Uh, the high camera feed just became an endzone camera feed. I'm watching Lawrence Township from the side. That's weird.

This is the second band today to play both "Li'l Liza Jane" and "St. James' Infirmary."

Really high energy opener from Lawrence Township. Almost a college-band-esque aesthetic there. Solo/ensemble moments are solid. Always a sucker for a good flugel solo. "Shout" ending is appreciated.

God I LOVE this Avon show so much! It just screams AVON and is so authentically them. Their woodwinds are killing it. The world class guard and battery shine. Amazing visual design. Such high energy. AHHHHH!!! The only thing I don’t like is the odd head pieces.

Avon: Opening hit is great Love "Slalom" being marched [Has another band done this?] Fire of Eternal Glory?! Nice woodwind presentation Really clean percussion feature Was that saxophone with guitar filter [For lack of a better term] Harloff channeling PR with the kick halt at the end...nice.
