So, all the talk on this thread made me go back and rewatch Blue Springs 2018. I remembered liking it at the time--and I like it now!--but I didn't remember thinking it was particularly revolutionary at the time... and it doesn't seem particularly revolutionary now. All of the things we see in its visual design [free flowing 'drill' with greater emphasis on choreography and character expression] were being used by other top competitors at the time to one degree or another. I wonder if what folks are picking up on is that they just did all those things so well. It makes you notice those design elements by how well-coordinated they were together, not necessarily by being completely unique. It's like, you know, just really good. Also, watching the bootleg YouTube video made me remember when FloMarching had the BOA contract and therefore reminded me that I could be watching the Super Regional today if [ long string of deleted expletives] Box 5 didn't have it. I watched it in person in finals and it was okay. There were quite a few visual and musical issues that didn’t take anything away from the outstanding GE, but were very noticeable. I understand why it beat BA, but I certainly don’t think it transformed the marching arts. I personally prefer 2017. 2018 is gorgeous, don’t get me wrong…it’s probably going to end up being one of the most memorable shows of the decade. Speaking objectively, Vento designs can very much be hit or miss. They hit more in Kansas City than anywhere else, and they certainly hit with Blue Springs that year. I just can’t see an argument for it being game changing.

Box5 does far superior camera work. Just buy the finals package on Box5TV and watch it tomorrow night! 🥰

I just came across a video on Da Tube of Broken Arrow at this show and I have to say I *really* love their show. Love the ensemble balance especially in the brass and love their rendition of Bruckner’s 8th. I’d also like to mention that I REALLY wish more powerhouse Texas programs made the trek out to this show. If not nationals more Texas bands really should make the trip out here.

I'm of the opinion that Broken Arrow finally loses in St. Louis whenever Hebron finally decides to make the trip up. And even then it would be a toss-up between those two.

I think they steal music comfortably, and Hebron has continually improved with their visual programming as well. I’d go with Hebron if they make the trip up to St. Louis. I don’t see much of a circumstance where they would make an appearance in lieu of Nats, but I don’t know what they would be thinking one way or another haha

You’ll probably never see any of the consistently top 7-10ish bands from San Antonio in St Louis. For one, a lot of bands intentionally take that weekend off or have UIL. Second, it’s hard to justify that trip and the expense when San Antonio is right there and an out of state trip would just lead such a band to prefer Indy because they’ll make the top half.

Assume by "Indy" you're talking GN rather than the SR.
