If I still live out here next season and as my health continues to improve (it's all uphill from dead) I may just start tapping into the Arizona scene and give some thoughts. I live in the east valley outside of Phoenix. Depending on your health, you could potentially check out either AZMBA 3A division (75-104 members) champs at Campo Verde HS or AZMBA 4A division (105+ members) champs at Highland HS, both happening this Saturday. You can find the schedules here. Otherwise, BOX5 is doing a livestream of all four divisions of ABODA championships on Saturday the 19th. I find that their scoring system is whacky sometimes, but it'll give you the best cross-section of what Arizona looks like: mostly smaller bands, with a couple strong/progressive bands at the top. Mountain Ridge looks the most similar to a Texas band; on any given year, they have 150-200 kids and would be a bubble band for GN Semis.

I'll take a shot at Tennessee lol. This is just based on results from competitions this year. 1.) DB 2.) Bartlett 3.) Collierville 4.) Elizabethton 5.) Ravenwood 6.) Franklin 7.) Summit 8.) Mt. Juliet 9.) Siegel 10.) Union City (just throwing in a random guess lol). I love that Tennessee is getting more competitive as of late! It's fun to see some interesting results this year haha. Still sucks that TN has more than one circuit which makes it difficult to accurately compile a list:/ That being said, I'm super pumped about Bartlett and Collierville turning heads in BOA! They've been a growing force for the past couple years, and I'm happy they're able to burst onto the BOA scene triumphantly

Reading through the info, there are certainly some judges that are very recognizable. ABODA has Bimm, Saucedo, McGahey, and several others that I recognize. AZMBA doesn't quite have that "star power" (same weekend as GN perhaps) but I still recognize a few names on the panel. I just may be able to venture out to the 4A contest this weekend. Only about 20 minutes away.
Oh, and thank you for the information!

And Catalina Foothills never does championships in either circuit, despite always being medal-worthy! Rincon University and Catalina Foothills are both in Tucson (about two hours south of PHX). Casa Grande is about halfway in between Phoenix and Tucson, technically closer to Phoenix but more similar culturally to southern Arizona bands. I love Catalina Foothills I just hate how they never want to compete with everyone even though they do be stacking up dominate every competition with 1st place. They Arizona largest band with like 200+ members every year, and one cool thing is that they always do a Cedar Park show. This year they're doing All Hallow's Eve (Cedar Park 2016), last year they did "The Steadfast Tin Solider" exactly (Cedar Park 2017) show. To be honest if they went to BOA Flagstaff Regional, I think it could have been a battle between Fossil Ridge (CO) vs Catalina Foothill (AZ) for second or third place

Really affluent area that seems to do it just for fun. Kinda cool tbh! Three of Arizona's biggest shows each fall are the U of A Band Day (in Tucson), ASU Band Day (in Tempe [basically Phoenix]), and NAU Band Day (in Flagstaff). ASU Band Day didn't happen this year (and maybe hasn't happened in a couple years?), but CatFoot seems to go regularly to the U of A Band Day in their backyard and to the NAU Band Day four hours north. I believe NAU Band Day was their last competition this season. They definitely just do it for the experience, and honestly, kudos to them. Tucson and Flagstaff are GORGEOUS in the fall. Just to experience the weather and the mountains (and the foliage in Flagstaff!) feels worthwhile!

Oh, and thank you for the information!
You are very welcome I've lived here for a few years and really enjoy our band culture. It's a small but close-knit community of people who genuinely want to be good people and give good experiences to their students. ABODA's greatest assets are its judges for its biggest shows (semifinals—the weekend before Grand Nats, and finals—the weekend after Grand Nats), along with its venues for finals. Glendale Community College has one of the biggest stadiums in the Phoenix area. ASU's Sun Devil Stadium is THE place for finals, but I think costs became too exorbitant to host champs there anymore. AZMBA's sheets and judges are a bit friendlier to smaller bands. More local judges, but fresher blood with an eye on what's happening nationally. AZMBA is like WBA Lite, and thus is trying to cultivate bands that sound and move like SoCal bands. I think you'd enjoy the 4A champs this weekend. Highland's stadium is one of the biggest high school stadiums around, and the audience's views of the mountains are pretty incredible. Parking lot is a stone's throw from the stadium entrance. And you'll be seeing most of the best bands in AZ

How about we just get all 50 from the algorithm? Too much work, even for me. Some states only have one or two or no competitive marching bands, too. North Dakota and Vermont don't have any, last I checked. Montana, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island have less than five each. Maine, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Hawaii have only about ten each.

Get me some scores for them. They didn't make Finals at Zia and they didn't place at the Pageant of Bands, so I have nothing more than that to go on. Seems to have been an off year. Well they scored lower than Rio Rancho in POB and in the Zia Fiesta they couldn't beat La Cueva, Las Cruces, and Hobbs, and in BOA they beat Centennial 3.95 points. I haven't see Albuquerque show so I say put them 9th or 10th place.

Austin Rankings, last time for real this time
1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge ------------------------------ 3. Cedar Ridge 4. Round Rock 5. Cedar Park ------------------------------ 6. Leander 7. Westlake 8. Hendrickson 9. James Bowie 10. Rouse 11. Moe and Gene Johnson ------------------------------ 12. Dripping Springs 13. Lake Travis 14. Westwood ------------------------------ 15. McNeil 16. Tom Glenn 17. Jack C. Hays 18. McCallum 19. Weiss ------------------------------ 20. Anderson 21. Liberty Hill 22. Copperas Cove 23. Lake Belton 24. College Station 25. Austin Next 5: Belton, Hutto, LASA, Midway, San Marcos
Not a ton of movement to be expected at this point in the season, but Drip moves up above LT after their fantastic placement at the UIL State Marching Contest and MG Johnson drops with Hendrickson moving up after their respective placements at BOA Grand Nationals.

FINAL Texas Rankings!
Central (Austin, Waco, College Station, etc.): 1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge 3. Cedar Ridge 4. Round Rock 5. Cedar Park 6. Leander 7. Westlake 8. Hendrickson 9. James Bowie 10. Rouse 11. Moe and Gene Johnson 12. Dripping Springs Next 3: Lake Travis, McNeil, Westwood
See the above post for my explantation!
East (Houston, Longview, Texarkana, etc.): 1. The Woodlands 2. Pearland 3. Cypress Woods 4. Cy-Fair 5. Bridgeland 6. Seven Lakes 7. Dickinson 8. College Park 9. Klein Oak 10. Dawson 11. Tomball Memorial 12. Friendswood Next 3: Clear Brook, Oak Ridge, Stephen F. Austin
Cypress Woods had a very strong finish to the season with an incredible performance at BOA San Antonio I was able to see live. Cy-Fair and Bridgeland both had strong finishes at San Antonio and/or State with Seven Lakes underperfoming which included placing below Dickinson at State (thus their large jump in the rankings). SFA finished the season with a disappointingly low placement at State, thus their drop into the Next 3.
North (Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, etc.): 1. Hebron 2. Flower Mound 3. Coppell 4. Marcus 5. Wakeland 6. Keller 7. Waxahachie 8. L.D. Bell 9. Timber Creek 10. Wylie 11. Wylie East 12. Keller Central Next 3: Aledo, Duncanville, McKinney North
I didn't forget Bell and Duncanville this time! Marcus falls out of the top 3, making it one of the few times where it's easy to say that the top three bands in the Metroplex aren't all from Lewisville ISD. Timber Creek and Keller Central make high placements here with their very strong finish at San Antonio. Prosper falls out of the rankings unfortunately after not doing as well at BOA Grand Nationals as I hoped they would.
South (San Antonio, Laredo, Brownsville, etc.): 1. Ronald Reagan 2. Claudia Taylor Johnson 3. Sandra Day O'Connor 4. Louis D. Brandeis 5. Roma 6. John B. Alexander 7. Winston Churchill 8. New Braunfels 9. Smithson Valley 10. John Paul Stevens 11. William J. Brennan 12. Del Rio Next 3: Homer Hanna, Pieper, Tom C. Clark
Lots of shifts this week with strong performances from bands like, O'Connor, Smithson Valley, and Pieper at various contests. Del Rio falls in the rankings after finishing 6th at USBands Austin behind Anderson and Liberty Hill.
West (El Paso, Midland, Amarillo, etc.): 1. Permian 2. J.M. Hanks 3. Frenship 4. Midland 5. Coronado (El Paso) 6. Pebble Hills 7. Eastlake 8. Parkland 9. Odessa 10. Horizon 11. San Angelo Central 12. Lubbock-Cooper Next 3: Del Valle, Eastwood, El Dorado
Given the lack of these bands competing, only movement is Frenship moving back above Midland to reflect their placements at State.
Small School (BOA Class in parentheses): 1. Celina (AA) 2. Anna (AA) 3. Canton (A) 4. Mineola (A) 5. Sulphur Springs (AA) 6. China Spring (AA) 7. Redwater (A) 8. Atlanta (A) 9. Canyon (AA) 10. Winnsboro (A) 11. Davenport (AA) 12. Calallen (AA) Next 3: North Lamar (A), Paris (AA), Randall (AA)
What unexpected results from 4A State! The order here is basically just 4A State finals with the 3A Area C top four sprinkled as they seem to be the indisputable top bands in the Class right now. Despite their low placement at State, North Lamar remains in the Next 3 because part of that could have to do with going on first in prelims.
