So this one sure had some interesting results. Broken Arrow won, yet they didn’t even place within their class in semis. Was there some penalty in semis that knocked them down a bit? And LD Bell shot up above The Woodlands and Avon, both of whom were ahead of them in semis. It just goes to show that things sure can change a lot between semi finals and finals!

There was no penalty in semis. BA was 4th. In finals, The Woodlands was the first band to perform, never a good slot. I don't think they had as good a show in finals and dropped to 4th. Avon kind of had an off night and dropped to 7th. LD Bell was great in finals and so was BA. I think BA just had a really good show in finals, everything came together for them. During the announcements, Chuck held us all in suspense for quite a while before he announced Bell in second. It was a huge shock.

I remember the hype on the forums and the shock after. I have the dvd and you can see that BA was cleaner and had an amazing run. It pains me to say that as at the time Bell was one of my favorite shows ive ever seen and still is. Fit my style. I love them both now but that year was a crazy one. Lots of changes then.

As someone who wouldn't become a part of the activity until a few years afterward, '06 is just a bizarre year all around. First off, finals was disgustingly good. Carmel was the reigning champion going into finals night and they placed 8th! Not because they weren't good, of course (although maybe not as good as the year prior) but not an 8th place show. Same goes for Avon who dropped from 2nd to 7th in a matter of hours! The one show I ask everyone to go and watch on any video sharing platform you can find it is The Woodlands '06. They did a show called "hide and seek" and it's classic BOA. Their semi-finals performance was incredible, even on tape - I can't imagine what it would've been like to see it live. Had they performed just like that again in finals, and if they had won, I'd say they'd be the best champion from Texas. As it stands, they're probably my favorite to ever win a round of the competition (with no disrespect to Hebron, Reagan, Westfield, Spring, Bell, and of course The Woodlands themselves)  As far as favorites to come out of Texas, The Woodlands 06 is up there with Hebron 15 & 17, FloMo 15 & 16, Westfield & Reagan 03, Bell 01, Vista Ridge '18 (a true favorite of mine), Marcus 07, Spring & Westfield '93, Westfield '95 and any of the greats. |

Not to mention TW had all that speaker fiasco that killed the vocals for half of the show. It wasn't like people weren't wondering about what happened throughout the show- it was clear as day when the speakers put out feedback and crackles. |

It was a bit of a shock to some people that BA didnt win in 2012. There was a lot of hype because they didn't compete anywhere else. Its one of my favorite shows. It flowed so well you were surprised when it was done and the opening hit was almost on the level of Avon in 2010. But i saw all three runs at nationals and their finals one wasnt quite there i guess. Lots of good shows that year and a few surprises.

2012 - BA attended the Rose Bowl that season so they did not travel to any regionals that year (since 2007, 2012 has so far been the only year BA was not St Louis super regional champion). I loved both Carmel and BA that year. They both had great shows. The music performance score was enough to give Carmel the edge. This was a case where a completely different judging panel may have resulted in a completely different outcome (of course there are a lot GN finals outcomes were you could say the same thing).
