The director at North Lincoln is Matt Minick, the long time director at Cary High School when they made Grant National Semis and were a consistent regional finalist. North, with Matt at the helm is an improving program for sure. As for East Lincoln, they had a rather apathetic director towards marching band for several years (prior to covid and through it) and a ton of turnover in their middle school program which, along with covid, led to a dramatic drop off in numbers in their program. Their new director however seems to be guiding them back to the successful program they were several years ago. It'll take time, but they seem to be making the right moves.

Mmm.. are you sure? East Lincoln had that great star show in 2014, (I actually saw it at the 2014 North Lincoln Roundtable and was pretty wowed) and they had Kevin Morrison (Crown guy now Lambert guy) as their director before he went over to Catawba Ridge with Martin Dickey (before the AK crew came in). I also think they were second to DB/ Summerville at WCU at least once before covid... but i'd have to research that Yeah East had a nice peak for a few years but North is pretty consistently ahead of them, like 20-5 or so head-to-head since 2003, most recently North beat East the only show they were both at last fall Yeah I’m definitely thinking of their peak

This regional is looking to be pretty slim so far...none of the usual eastern heavy hitters are going this time around.

This one suprises me, because its the same day as VMBC state championships, not that they normally do those, but i figure they would be more likely than this

Exactly two months until this contest! It's time for very early predictions. Rather than going through the headache of trying to guess placements, I'm making the predictions tier-based and in alphabetical order.
Early congratulations to Dartmouth on their second consecutive BOA regional championship! I am excited to see what they are producing this season. I think we will see a similar finish towards the top as last year, with Downingtown West and John P. Stevens rounding out the top 3, though West Orange could certainly sneak in. Speaking of repeat finalists, there will likely be several, with Lightridge being a fresh face to the "locks" list. Their growth over the last couple of years has been so cool to watch!
I think the bottom of finals could get pretty competitive. Several potential candidates fighting for those last couple of spots! Should be a great show!
Congratulations! (1): Dartmouth H.S., MA ---------- Medalist Contenders (2-4): Downingtown West H.S., PA John P. Stevens H.S., NJ West Orange H.S., NJ ---------- Finals Locks (5-10): Brick Memorial H.S., NJ Downingtown East H.S., PA Lightridge H.S., VA Spring-Ford H.S., PA Wakefield H.S., MA Westfield H.S., NJ ---------- Finals Bubble (11-15): Bridgewater-Raritan H.S., NJ Elizabeth H.S., NJ Unionville H.S., PA ---------- Grassfield H.S., VA King Philip Regional H.S., MA ---------- Everyone Else (16-20): Boyerton Area Senior H.S., PA Monroe Township H.S., NJ North Lincoln H.S., NC Randolph H.S., NJ Verona H.S., NJ

I would not be surprised to see any of those 1-5 bands win this regional, but I'm really excited to see Unionville and hoping they break through this year. They have a great repertoire that reminds me of something the Bluecoats would piece together for a show (they haven't - though BD did perform one of the Cody Fry pieces in their rep this past year).
Downingtown West looks to have gotten off to a slower start this year with Unionville beating them a couple of times. Hoping it's just a blip and they've made progress, as last year's performance showed a lot of long-term potential. Better yet, I'm hoping that just speaks more to how much of a step forward Unionville has had.
Very curious to see if Wakefield ends up being class A this year. The MA DOE site has their 10-12 enrollment at 601 at the start of the school year. Grades 6-9 each have higher enrollment than any of their 10-12 grades, so if they did move down it would likely only be for this year.
Also really hoping we go 3/3 for MA bands making finals. I'm on the fence about Wakefield's chances of making it, and I have yet to see KPRHS. Lots of canceled shows and lost rehearsal time in New England due to rain.
Side note: Dartmouth will not be attending US Bands Open Class Championships the following week, even though they're signed up. They are also not on the current NESBA finals schedule, though it's still on their schedule. They have not performed with their tarp yet this season, and it's their first time using one - possibly the only chance they have before GN. Thankfully, it looks to be in the high 70s/low 80s with no rain on Saturday.
