Hearing some initial buzz that an entire school district might be skipping this event this year. Looking at the confirmed list, we can count out these districts with more than 1 high school. - Austin ISD
- Birdville ISD
- Leander ISD
- Round Rock ISD
- North East ISD
- Clear Creek ISD
- Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD
- Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
- Lamar CISD
- Hays CISD
- United ISD
- Keller ISD
- Magnolia ISD
- Pflugerville ISD
- Fort Bend ISD
- Mansfield ISD
- Frisco ISD
- Wylie ISD
Now, looking through the other lists, the most notable large districts that may miss this contest are the following: - Conroe ISD
- Katy ISD
- Klein ISD
- Lewisville ISD
- Pearland ISD
- Prosper ISD
Now, considering the date, this could be an April Fools joke, which is what I'm hoping for it to be.

Making state every doesn’t seem like such a big deal to states that do have state championships every year (Indiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, South Carolina… to name a few).
But I think at this juncture especially because UIL falls during a weekday, (which is still weird to me) this makes doing these two (and sometimes grand nationals) very hard.
Just like in 2021 we saw Flower Mound and TWHS make two different choices. Clearly directors don’t have an appetite to do all 3 frequently or even at all.
Unless there are two weeks between GN and San Antonio which would be ideal but doesn’t happen too often.

Unless there are two weeks between GN and San Antonio which would be ideal but doesn’t happen too often. One of the biggest issues for every year state, especially those teeny tiny schools out in west Texas who get no real fine arts funding, is that it's just too expensive to make a trip to San Antonio every year. I believe it is held on weekdays because there's too many contests to hold in one weekend and they also have to compete with UTSA football and others for those time slots. And they can't really hold it at an outdoor stadium because the cost of having to cancel so many contests with some bands traveling 8+ hours is just way too high. Then you look at your other indoor options and you've got... the AT&T Stadium in DFW and NRG Stadium in Houston... both venues that could never even dream about holding a contest that big, let alone an average size contest of around 20 bands (USBands tries it, it's awful). So yeah, just a really unfortunate case of "this state is too damn big" that forces us to do things the way we do.
