Way-too-early predictions 1. AF 2. Green Canyon 3. Fort Mill 4. Cedar Valley 5. Davis 6. Westlake 7. Farmington 8. Skyridge 9. West Salem 10. Etiwanda 11. Buchanan 12. Lone Peak So many of the Utah bands have taken a big step up that it's impossible to guess the 2-8ish range, but I'm gonna try anyways. I am a big Green Canyon fan and hope this is their year to medal. Fort Mill is always strong musically and visually, but seem to be held back by show design. I think they'll place within a couple of spots of where they did in 2019. West Salem is a big wildcard for me, small band with a big sound (like some other groups here.) They could jump into the top 6. Honestly though, I have zero idea how this one will turn out besides who will win. Good predictions! There are some changes I would make. AF 1st, as always, but I would put Westlake and Cedar Valley ahead of Green Canyon. I think they are missing their former director. Nothing against the new one--he just happens to not have the experience of the former director and that makes a difference. Westlake, after taking 3rd last year and the visual caption, graduated very few seniors. They have also added about 40 to their ranks and should march over 220 this year. This could be an even better year for them. Cedar Valley finished 2nd in music last year to only AF, and they are growing each year. Davis and Farmington will always be tough. I think Farmington was disappointed last year and I look to them to make a comeback. West Salem has been a powerhouse in the Northwest for years. They are a serious threat to win this thing. In the same year when Central Valley from Spokane was coming to St George (they have since split and another school was created) and placing 2nd a few times to only AF, West Salem was beating Central Valley in competitions in the Northwest on a regular basis. Their director also happens to be a MFA judge so he knows how to design shows. (Edit: If San Marcos attends, they could very easily be a finalist in the top 10.) Here is my list: 1. American Fork 2. West Salem 3. Westlake 4. Fort Mill 5. Davis 6. Cedar Valley 7. Farmington 8. Green Canyon 9. Etiwanda 10. Skyridge 11. Buchanan 12. Lone Peak

Honestly I’d give West Salem 5-6th place. I wouldn’t say 2nd place, but I don’t think they’ll be at the bottom of the finalists either.

It does not appear West Salem is competing here anymore, as the calendar is blank November 4.

I wonder what the deal is with the lineup delay for this show. All the others have been posted, including the new Carolina and Troy shows. The only reason I can think of is that I would imagine it’s more than full, and judging by West Salem’s recent drop, perhaps there were others. But, it seems as though they’re posting the lineups to include waitlisted groups (which probably only is the case with Orlando as they’re the only non-Super with more than 32 bands).
Ah, well. We’ll find out soon enough, I guess.

Not much to find out there regarding Clearfield, competitive results, performance videos or otherwise. Their band calendar has competitions they apparently competed in last season, but the recaps of those shows don’t have Clearfield listed. Anyone have any information on them?

Their Facebook seems to indicate it is their inaugural year of marching. Doing some digging, it seems they had a combined marching band with Northridge and Syracuse?

My research for anyone who don't know these bands: Rancho Cucamonga is a surprise they have been doing pretty decent in CA. They were SCSBOA 2021 Division 6A 5th place Champion, and SCSBOA 2022 Division 6A 7th place Champion. 2021: Division 6A: 1. 96.38: Rancho Bernardo High School, CA (Best M & GE) 2. 94.84: Arcadia High School, CA (Best Aux & Perc) 3. 93.93: El Dorado High School, CA (Best V) ( 2023 SoCal) 4. 93.92: Mt. Carmel High School, CA 5. 93.68: Rancho Cucamonga High School, CA (2023 Utah)6. 90.50: Etiwanda High School, CA ( 2023 Utah) 7. 89.64: Mira Mesa High School, CA 8. 85.41: Los Osos High School, CA 9. 84.06: Martin L. King High School, CA 10. 83.70: Rancho Buena Vista High School, CA 11. 82.58: Rancho Verde High School, CA 12. 81.10: West Torrance High School, CA 2022:Division 6A: 1. 95.200: Rancho Bernardo, CA (Best M and V) 2. 94.300: Arcadia, CA (Best GE) (Best Perc) 3. 92.400: El Dorado, CA (Best Aux) ( 2023 SoCal) 4. 92.350: Mt. Carmel, CA 5. 92.000: Etiwanda, CA ( 2023 Utah) 6. 91.700: Mira Mesa, CA 7. 89.000: Rancho Cucamonga, CA (2023 Utah)8. 86.850: Martin Luther King, CA 9. 84.200: Del Norte, CA 10. 83.900: Los Osos, CA 11. 82.000: West Torrance, CA 12. 79.400: John F. Kennedy, CA I believe Clearfield, UT was a parade only band but seem to be moving onto the competitive space, but I don't know about "the combined bands of Northridge and Syracuse?" Kinda excited for Herriman to join the fight they usually score around BOA St. George finalist in UMEA, but wishing them luck. UMEA Utah States2021: Class 6A: 1. 94.588: American Fork 2. 91.875: Farmington 3. 90.963: Davis 4. 88.525: Westlake 5. 88.350: Skyridge 6. 85.863: Herriman 7. 85.450: Mountain Ridge 8. 79.000: Lone Peak 9. 72.188: Bingham 10. 69.450: Pleasant Grove 11. 67.563: Riverton 12. 65.800: West Jordan 13. 64.169: Copper Hills 14. 61.513: Fremont 15. 57.525: Roy | 2022: Class 6A: 1. 91.125: American Fork 2. 85.575: Davis 3. 82.963: Westlake 4. 82.750: Farmington 5. 80.850: Skyridge 6. 77.438: Lone Peak 7. 76.650: Herriman 8. 73.988: Bingham 9. 68.825: Riverton 10. 67.888: Mountain Ridge 11. 64.787: West Jordan 12. 64.144: Pleasant Grove 13. 61.163: Fremont 14. 57.706: Copper Hills 15. 54.763: Roy |
and Desert Pines (NV) was pretty far from 15th place BOA St. Geroge Valley H.S., NV in the NevadaMBC like 12.15 points away in Clark Tournament Making finals is going to be hard on this one.

It's been pretty exciting to see the grassroots growth in the Rockies! St. George has been slowly going from afterthought to one of the more competitive regionals around. American Fork may continue to be the superior pick but it may not be too long before they're not the only ones.

It’s interesting that Fort Mill is coming out here. Are they going on tour or something like that? I have no idea, but it’s likely just an end-of-season trip out west. Pretty sure one of the Lakotas did it a few years back, and I know other bands have done the same. I’m sure a calendar stalker will have more info on what they plan on doing so far from home!

Saint George is a great destination contest, the way that Orlando is for some groups. There are numerous national parks around and the weather in late October/ early November is perfect.

How do you guys think the AAA top three from last year will hold up against fort mill? I'm not too familiar with their band aside from watching their 2022 show on YouTube.

Fort Mill post-COVID is a little different than pre-COVID, but I think they had an overall strong comeback last year. I could see them placing in the top half here. I think the 2nd-5th place AAA bands — in which my predictions in ABC order are Alta, Brighton, Lakewood and Maple Mountain — won’t quite make it to finals given the added strong contingent from California, but I think they will all be within 1-1.5 points of each other. Long story short, Fort Mill is very likely going to run away with that AAA trophy and captions, and I think there will be a 7-10 point drop between them and 2nd place.

Forgot to mention that while I don’t think any other AAA bands will sneak into finals, I think all of the 2nd-5th place groups will be just outside (like last year). A couple probably could have made it in without some fresh faces coming, but with Etiwanda and Rancho Cucamonga and now Herriman entering the field, it makes it even harder to do so. Excited to see such a strong turnout for this show!

As many bands tend to have it, AF carrys a curse to wherever they go. “Who’s gonna get 1st” isn’t the question, it’s always “Who’s getting 2nd-4th?”

Same could be said however about some of the 5A (AAA) Schools, such as Alta and Brighton keeping it close with Lehi throughout the season, and Maple Mountain even beating Lehi and coming within .2 of Cedar Valley (2022 UMEA State Comp). But then again, there's a huge difference between scoring at BOA and UMEA (I've witnessed this personally XD)

One day early, because, why not? "Final" predictions rolling out starting next week!
(Almost) exactly two months until this contest! It's time for very early predictions.
Early congratulations to American Fork on your inevitable landslide victory! The battle for the silver and bronze medals should be pretty deep and very exciting. Lots of incredible groups at this show! Really glad Herriman finally decided to come here, they should handily make finals, even through director changes a couple years back.
My eyes are on Alta, as they've been knocking on the door of finals for some time now. Can they finally break through? Lakewood coming down from Colorado after their 3rd place finish in 5A at the CBA State Championships, just under Fossil Ridge and Legacy, is pretty exciting, and they could be a dark horse for finals. Rancho Cucamonga is also a neat addition to the contest and widens the finals bubble even further.
Looking forward to another exciting and competitive Utah regional! This might be one of the most competitive Utah regionals ever.
