It’s actually so exciting to see. 6A OBA with Piedmont thrown in the mix is going to be insanity

Sorry for the spam but-
Do I think BA is going to win OBA? Probably.
Do I think they may lose a caption? Yes.
Do I think there’s a realistic chance they may come in second? Kind of.
Just wild! Owasso was only a couple points behind BA in prelims at Orlando today. Assuming Jenks is ahead of Owasso (which who knows, maybe they’re not), that would put Jenks within a couple points of BA. A BA loss at OBA isn’t out of the realm of possibilities……but also still unlikely

Really surprised Sapulpa didn’t take that one, but so exciting for Piedmont! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because I haven’t seen Piedmont this season 😂
How insane and fun would a Jenks upset be next weekend?! 😜 I still think the chances are slim, but could see Jenks closer than they’ve ever been and taking a caption.

Sigh. I suppose that's a good problem to have though, as that speaks to the ever growing level of competitiveness across our state that we thought used to be concentrated to the Tulsa area, but now we can see is all over the state! Crazy to think we may soon live in a world where Broken Arrow is not guaranteed to win OBA.

Since not all made it to finals, here’s how the Oklahoma bands stacked against each other in prelims: (Total Rank in Prelims) 1. Union - 84.050 (6th) 2. Choctaw - 81.525 (12th) 3. Southmoore - 79.850 (17th) 4. Yukon - 79.825 (18th) 5. Deer Creek - 78.605 (20th) 6. Bixby - 78.550 (21st)
Somethings to note: - Choctaw was the only panel 2 Oklahoma band, and to be honest I think there could have been some discrepancies in the scoring between panel 1 and 2. Not to take away from choctaws success though -I think this contest really only showed that most of these bands just weren’t prepared for the environment to be blunt, it was a first for most and you could tell in some like Yukon for example that they did arguably better at renegade review finals -Bixby is continuing to drop in the Oklahoma rankings, I don’t know why but maybe the competition is getting better faster than Bixby
So I would honestly take some of this contest with a grain of salt except for Union and Bixby, Union obviously showed up yesterday and made a name for themselves again, and Bixby arguably just isn’t what we knew to be Bixby the last 10 or so years. Any of the middle 4 could go anyway at OBA, but I’m leaning towards Yukon and southmoore being higher than Choctaw and deer creek, mainly because of their outdoor performance success.

To be honest I feel like the real dog fight is going to be between Jenks and Union for Silver, and maybe some captions because we ALL know OBA is inflated and can have iffy panels.

Agreed. So much talk about Jenks and Owasso challenging BA but Union is very rapidly catching back up

Y'all I think this is the hardest year yet for 6A OBA predictions - I'm on the struggle bus.
I just can't bring myself to put Bixby in 11th... but if we put them below everyone who they have been beaten by this season (plus those like Mustang who are very likely to score higher than them this year), that's where they would be. I think Bixby will probably be bottom half which is wild.
Any combo of BA, Jenks, Owasso, Union, or Mustang for a medal. Add Choctaw, Southmoore, ESF, Yukon for the battle for top half. BTW that is 9 bands that I could definitely see in the top 6 spots. WOW!
ESF has been flying under the radar but they are still looking so sharp from a recent football video. I am extra interested to see where they land considering how well they've been scoring. I think they are probably most likely for that 6th place spot, but it's so hard to say.
FYI, saw a video of Mustang from last night, and they do look reallllly good. Definitely in there fighting for a medal.
Not to even mention the battle for just getting into finals. Biiiiiig bubble this year.
I'll probs post my predictions later today or tomorrow. SO excited for OBA!

Also I wouldn't cross place groups with scores from different BOA competitions, but I believe the spread of 1st-3rd at Orlando is comparable to the spread of 1st-7th at Indianapolis. I see Tarpon -> Owasso placements being equal to Carmel -> Fishers placements.

WOAHHHHHH! What a weekend for Oklahoma bands! Some very shocking scores coming out of both Indianapolis and Florida. This year is, dare I say, far more challenging to predict than 2021.
Post Bands of America Competition Weekend Oklahoma Bandmasters Association State Marching Contest Predictions! (PBACWOBASMCP)
1. Broken Arrow (92-94) I know I have been saying that BA will have their yearly gold medal snatched away from them for the past few weeks, but the more and more I think about it, it just becomes more and more difficult to logically justify them not winning this competition. There is a chance that Jenks and/or Owasso could take some captions awards. If any band has a shot at knocking BA down to second place, it would be one of Jenks or Owasso, with the former being far more likely.
2. Jenks (90-92) What a year they are having! Their show is so cool this year and they have scored phenomenally at the competitions that they have attended this year. I still believe that they could swipe that music from BA.
3. Owasso (89-91) All I can really say is WHAT. A. SHOW. They just look great this year and will challenge hard for medal.
4. Union (88-90) Their props are SO COOL! They have a great sound and as a former mellophone player myself (who would have guessed) those mellophones have some top tier chops. I would go so far as to say that Union have of the best mellophone sections in the country and are just behind Broken Arrows mellophones in Oklahoma. They have an amazing sound and they will have no problem placing top 3 in music here.
5. Mustang (87-89) I have seen their show twice in person along with a few videos of them at football games. They Look like that same old great Mustang, but I have seen a drop in their qualoty since last year. They are still a great band and will challenge for a medal! They are very close to Union score wise from what I have seen, within a point.
6. Edmond Santa Fe (86-88) I have said this several times, but I am not a huge fan of their show. They are executing drill and music very well and will finish deep in this top 9.
7. Yukon (86-88) I am in love with their show! The light props are so cool! I really hope they can finish top half, they deserve it!
8. Southmoore (84-86) Great job this year! I don't think they will make this top 7, but they still have an amazing program once again this year.
9. Choctaw (84-86) Congratulations to them on making finals at indy! They always have a phenomenal visual program as well as a top-tier guard. I really hope they can finish higher, but this top 9 is just so hard to put together.
10. Edmond North (83-85) I have seen a few videos of them recently and they look great! I really hope they can get a finals placement here.
11. Bixby (83-85) It hurts putting them this low. It has not been their year unfortunately, and I think a lot of their problems have to do with the actual design of the show itself. Hopefully they can really bounce back next year, I have heard they are treating this year as a write off.
12. Deer Creek (83-85) Whoever places in the bottom 3 of this competition will be within a 1-1.5 points of each other. Very excited to see how they do here! Their trumpet soloists are phenomenal and they have a top tier mellophone section!
Bubble Bands (% likelihood they will make finals) Bixby (75%) Deer Creek (55%) Edmond North (50%) Stillwater (45%) Westmoore (45%) Edmond Memorial (35%) Moore (35%)

FINAL 6A OBA Predictions 1. Broken Arrow (91) Outstanding Music, Outstanding GE Broken Arrow is continually pushing this season, and I finally got to see what they've been cooking, and although its no Edge of Eternity or Over the Edge, still a decently cool production, although it leads me to believe they might have left the door cracked for Jenks. 2. Jenks (90.9) Outstanding Visual Jenks is definetly more than capable of stealing a caption or possibly winning this whole contest. I'm intrigued to see how far they can push to possibly shock the country this coming saturday, and if you didn't know, BA is currently on a 20 year streak of winning the top OBA class. Maybe this is the year? 3. Union (90) Union impressed Oklahoma last Saturday, and impressed the area and country yesterday. Props to them and although their show design isn't quite my favorite, I think their cleanliness and sound will make the design irrelevant. 4. Mustang (89.5) I believe Mustang could snag the 3rd spot again, but it's hard to tell with them because of a lack of competitive performance since Midland, so only time will tell. Right now I don't believe they would get 2nd but that could change. 5. Owasso (87.5) 3rd at BOA Orlando!! with a score gap of 3 to BA I figured this might be a good spot just because 2-4 could have definetly beat them if they came to Orlando, I think Owasso's design and music just isn't always the greatest, but their execution is key to their success no doubt. 6. Yukon (86) The sound I heard from Yukon on Saturday was pretty phenomenal, tbh I think they just didn't have their best run because of environment issues at Indy but hearing them on thursday night at their football game, they did pretty crazy. So much more clean 7. Edmond Sante Fe (85.5) ESF will be a wildcard because we haven't seen them in a bit but I think they will be just below Yukon or a little above, definetly close with each other though. 8. Southmoore (85) Good looking show for OBA, just not top 7 material in my opinion, Yukon and ESF have them beat. 9. Choctaw (84.8) Congrats to Choctaw for the AA win and sweep, but I think there score being the 2nd highest of OK bands at Indy had more to do with the panel judging difference and less to do with them being better than Yukon and Southmoore, love them but from being 4 points behind Yukon to 2 points ahead is too much of a jump in 1 week in my opinion to not have any score discrepancies. Can't wait to see them win 6A2 here though! Hopefully a sweep too! 10. Deer Creek (82.5) Deer Creek is doing really good this year but will be beat by the crazy competition this year, the hardest year for them because they are doing phenomenal, but you can't change the competition. 11. Stillwater (82) I think Stillwater will continue to be really good they just have to push this week to ensure their finals appearance! Love the horn feature! 12. Edmond North (81.5) Monkeys Go Crazy, sorry Bixby First Out: Bixby (81.495) No questions asked, I think the past few contests for Bixby have explained enough. Love u Bixby <3 Still my fan favorite
Chance at 12th Place Edmond North - 45% Bixby - 40% Westmoore - 10% Edmond Memorial - 5%

I’m way too scared to make predictions for OBA Yeah this weekend is going to be a bloodbath for you 6A Oklahoma groups. I’m both looking forward to it, and not. It’s going to be a tough competition and it’s our last OBA as a family for 4 long years! My daughter is a senior and my son wont be in high school band until fall of 2028! The scene may change a lot between now and then!

It is so hard making predictions this year because I really don't want to disrespect or put certain programs by placing them in a lower position after have doing phenomenally in the past but are just not having the best season. I also don't want to discredit bands who are coming out of nowhere and doing great by not putting them very high against some very tough competition. I don't want any kids to be discouraged by these predictions either. I was in a band who was not favored by the scores and predictions a few years ago, but they made us work harder to prove everyone wrong. It is very hard to logically consider how all of these bands, most of whom have not seen each other in a competition before OBA, will score against each other. I go into these predictions wanting every band to prove me wrong and to better than they ever have before.

Also here’s my predictions as a kid in one of these bands though I won’t tel u which one 1. BA 2. Jenks 3. Owasso 4. Union 5. Mustang 6. Esf 7. Yukon 8/9. Deer Creek 8/9. Choctaw 10. Edmond North 11. Bixby 12. Southmoore
I understand it’s crazy to put bixby this low but I can’t justify much higher. I can tell there has been a shift In Oklahoma this year in terms of marching band basically everyone has jumped in skill and competence this is by far the most competitive season in Oklahoma marching band history In my opinion.
