I feel like Edmond north is a contender for even 10th place I would put them up there they’re definitely an underdog to watch for

OBA Predictions After Renegade Review!
1) Broken Arrow (1-2) 2) Jenks (1-3) 3) Owasso (2-5) 4) Mustang (3-6) 5) Yukon (3-6) 6) Union (4-6) 7) Bixby (7-8) 8) Edmond Santa Fe (7-9) 9) Southmoore (8-10) 10) Deer Creek (9-10) 11) Stillwater (11-out) 12) Choctaw (12-out)
I'm pretty confident that the top 6 and bottom 6 will be some combination of these groups, blue vs orange, but I could see Union and Bixby swapping or maybe ESF coming out of the woodwork a little.

Congrats to Muldrow and Sallisaw on their respective OBA wins! I'm quite shocked that Berryhill's dynasty has been toppled, but with the growing competition of 1A-2A-3A bands, it was bound to happen soon! Also, huge congratulations to Blanchard on their medal in 4A! They're an outstanding, growing program that's well on the way to seeing more results soon! Renegade Review results also proved interesting. I'm super happy for Yukon and them beating Blue Springs South! I called it in my predictions, but it's still super impressive, and they medaled too, on top of that! I think the Renegade results are going to shake up Indy predictions, more specifically where Yukon and Bixby will place. I didn't hear anything about Union's exhibition performance, but I've heard they're still on the uptick and I think that's going to influence where they place too! It's going to be a great next two weeks in the Oklahoma band world as all eyes center on Indianapolis, Orlando, and further beyond, OBA! What an exciting time for bands in Oklahoma!

Happy OBA week to my alma mater! It hasn't hit me yet that this week is the last one for most of the small/mid size schools in the state, and in my case, this is the last week of band for my family- period. It's a bittersweet time! Don't worry though, I still intend to keep up with the activity, just as I did when I first graduated. That being said, I'm here to give out my 5A OBA predictions! 5A has gotten some considerable attention this season, and like every season, it's a tense race for the top! It's also Piedmont's last season in 5A- One last chance for them to take a 5A medal before they officially play with the big dogs year round! They will have some fierce competition in 6A, but I know they will hold their own, especially under their promising new director! So, without further ado, my 5A OBA predictions! I'll be there on Saturday to watch all the action too, so you better believe I'll be keeping y'all posted!
1. Sapulpa- Guys, I think this is the year it happens. They've shot up in the ranks following their new directorship at the turn of the decade. They made BOA Flagstaff finals and swept AA. All the pieces are in place for them to take it all this year! They impressed heavily last year at this contest, and I think since they've been doing even better than that show, they're almost a shoo-in for the win here. Make no mistake though, the other three in serious contention for the trophy will be putting the pressure on them. Nail everything though, and there will be a new name on the list of historical OBA champions! 1-2 range.
2. Piedmont- Last year's predictions from me were more biased for them, but this one actually seems realistic. The show is a complete 180 from their show last year, and while that one was certainly a crowd pleaser, this one is much more dynamic and intuitive and it can be appreciated for that. It will be a tough road to beat a BOA finalist, but they've gone up against stronger and come out victorious. It's not outside the realm! They'll be fighting hard for a win here, especially when it's their last year in this class. 1-3 range.
3. Coweta- The perennial medalists and 10-time 5A champion seems like they might be in a bit of a rebuild state this year. But a rebuild year at Coweta means something different than it does at other programs. They are still kicking butt and taking names, especially in their class! They finished in the top 8 at Mustang, and I have no doubt that this past weekend they took off was to clean deep for OBA. Despite the lower numbers this year, they'll be a force to be reckoned with come this Saturday. 2-4 range.
4. Collinsville- I'll admit I've only seen scores from Collinsville and nothing in the way of actual performances. The defending 5A OBA champions made waves here last year when they unexpectedly jumped up into the top- their first OBA win in almost 20 years. I wouldn't be surprised if they're cooking up something special to follow that up. This Saturday will be the first time I see anything from them this year though, so we'll see how they shake up against the others. It should also be noted that they have St. Louis the following week, so it'll be interesting to see where the show will peak. 2-4 range.
5. Carl Albert- Consistency is the name of the game at Carl Albert, and that seems to stand true even under yet another new director this year. They were finalists at Yukon and Mustang this year, and I think we're going to see them try to break into the top 4 for the first time since they took the silver in 2019. 4-5 range.
6. McAlester- These guys have generally rounded out the top six over the past couple years, and while there is potential to see that change this year, their 5th place at the Bixby contest against some (albeit strong) 3A-4A schools, bears a little bit of concern, though it could be argued those bands were a week later in their season. They're going from a top 6 lock to a chance at looking at the other side of the top 6, but we could also see them have two really good runs that shoot them into 5th place. 5-7 range.
7. Guthrie- Haven't heard much from them since Moore, but I do like the show and it seems to have better footing than last year's show. I'll have to see it again to get a better read on it. 6-9 range.
8. Grove- Past the top 7 at this contest, it definitely seems to be a bit more of a toss up than usual, especially since you see some relatively smaller names here that only compete locally. Grove however, made an impression here last year. I had them in the 10-12 range, and they shot up to 7th place. I think they'll be sitting in the bottom six still, but I will definitely be keeping a closer eye on them. 7-9 range.
9. Claremore- Same deal as with Grove, in that I've seen absolutely nothing from them. They are a consistent finalist here, but tend to place all over the bottom six. 8-11 range.
10. Durant- I have beef with these guys, because I'm mad they got rid of their Aussies. In spite of that though, I did enjoy their show last year and I don't expect to not enjoy it again this year. 9-11 range.
11. Glenpool- If I'm not mistaken, these guys host their own contest for a lot of the smaller schools on their side of the state to take part in, and from what I can gather by word of mouth, they're pretty decent this year. I wouldn't expect for them to miss finals this year in their second year as 5A. 10-12 range.
12. Pryor- Welcome to OBA finals, Pryor! These guys are always on the edge of finals every year but get pushed out by bands slightly better than them. I think they have a fighting chance this year against a recovering Shawnee for a spot in finals. 11-12 range.

I agree, I think it might very well be Sapulpa's year! Makes me v excited. Although I could see Piedmont, even Coweta or Collinsville randomly taking the gold

I FIGURED OUT HOW TO USE FONTS!!! My prediction withdrawals are also back OBA 2023 Post Renegade Review Predictions1. Jenks H.S. (93-95) This is it. This is the year that a band steals that first place spot form Broken Arrow. Jenks have had a remarkable season so far and I am in love with their show. If they don't place first, I believe they will take the visual caption from them at least.
2. Broken Arrow H.S. (93-95) I am not very impressed with their show this year to put it simple. I do not want to downgrade a band who has done amazing at Grand Nationals, but I believe that they are in a rebuilding year. Will win music at least
3. Union H.S. (89-92) They're back! This show is really impressive and their music is phenomenal. Very excited to see how they do here!
4. Owasso H.S. (88-92) They have a VERY impressive show this year! They did amazing at Renegade Review, congratulations to them on winning the visual caption!
5. Mustang H.S. (87-89) While they are doing very well this season, I believe they are being slightly overhyped this season. I think that the likes of Union and Jenks will outscore them and take Mustang out of the top 3. They still have a good chance at top 4 this season!
6. Yukon H.S. (86-88) Yukon have come out of nowhere this season. Their show is very impressive and I am in love with the light effects! They are in contention for top 5, but they are another band that I believe is being slightly overhyped. They will still do amazing this season!
7. Bixby H.S. (84-86) Not the best of seasons for Bixby. While it is not favored by the judges, I really love this show! This is one of my favorite shows of the season and I really hope they can place higher!
8. Edmond Santa Fe H.S. (84-86) Another really solid show from ESF this year. I am not the biggest fan of the show, but the judges seem to like it.
9. Southmoore H.S. (82-84) They had really good showings at BAI and at Deer Cree. Excited to see where this show goes!
10. Deer Creek H.S. (81-83) They looked really good at Mustang! I think they will be within half a point of Edmond North once again, though. Excited to see them play again this weekend!
11. Edmond North H.S. (81-83) For the past two years, everyone has left Edmond North out of finals, and for the past two years, Edmond North have made finals. I think people are forgetting that they beat Stillwater by almost 4 points at Mustang. I really love their show this year, and that tenor sax solo is amazing!
12. Choctaw H.S. (80-82) They have a phenomenal visual program and they continue to have one of the best colorguards in the state! They could finish anywhere from 12th-8th really.
General Thoughts and Comments - I believe that 3rd through 8th will be the closest it has ever been. I can honestly see any of those bands finishing 3rd/4th. - Union are back, and they are looking GOOD - I don't think this is BA's year
Outstanding Music - Broken Arrow Outstanding Visual - Jenks Outstanding General Effect - Jenks

Was waiting to find someone who agreed before I said this. Obviously an amazing program but I'm really not a fan of their show this year.

Was waiting to find someone who agreed before I said this. Obviously an amazing program but I'm really not a fan of their show this year. It seems pretty generic so far. It’s more of a filler show, but that’s also what I thought about 2013, and it turned out to be one of my favorites. I would love to see an upset, but I feel the likelihood of that happening is still pretty slim.

I am excited to see what they bring to Orlando and to OBA next week. I think BA will probably win this year, BUT I do think the gap is starting to close. It might not be this year, but in the next 5 years, I could see a new OBA champion being crowned.

Very much looking forward to a weekend FULL of Oklahoma band! I highly recommend subscribing to Box5 for those who haven't. A whopping 8 Oklahoma bands are taking on BOA comps across the nation on Saturday. Best of luck to Choctaw, Southmoore, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Bixby, Deer Creek, Yukon, and Union! So far, not a single Oklahoma band has missed finals at BOA comps this season. Fingers crossed that trend persists!
And big shout-out to the bands attending 5A OBA this weekend! Hoping to hear how things are going!

Not the best video, but here is Southmoore from a few days ago. Really a lot of demand in this show, and the students are doing a great job! I really hope we get to see this twice on Saturday.

GREAT run from Bixby! Some wonky timing here and there but other than that it was very good! I would put that run at about an 83, so much GE potential!
