Would love to see a couple CA bands like Chino Hills, Vista Murrieta, or James Logan try to make the trip but costs may still be too prohibitive for a west coast band to travel to Indy at the moment.

With the structure changes to UIL will we see less consistency about when the TX heavy-hitters will attend? I wonder if could even out a little more or if just more will go? Could we see half the bands in the finals being from TX for the foreseeable future? I have conflicting feelings about a Texas invasion at Grand Nats, but I don’t want to get yelled at, so I’ll just leave it alone. 🫣 Why? Genuinely curious here. |

With the structure changes to UIL will we see less consistency about when the TX heavy-hitters will attend? I wonder if could even out a little more or if just more will go? Could we see half the bands in the finals being from TX for the foreseeable future? There will still be a consistent schedule for some of the heavy hitters even with UIL's change to an every year state contest. Marcus, Hebron, and Flower Mound are all on four year rotations and appear to be so for the foreseeable future with Marcus and Flower Mound traveling together. The Woodlands, Round Rock, and CTJ are on an every other year rotation on odd years, while Prosper seems to be potentially adopting that same rotation on even years. Aside from that, most of the big name bands seem to just schedule trips whenever they feel like it. The big change seems to be that compared to pre-COVID there are a lot more Texas bands scheduling trips in general, with Southlake Carroll and Pearland both making their first trip within these past two years and schools like Bridgeland, Seven Lakes, and Cy-Fair potentially considering a trip within the next year or so. So though the bands at the very top will likely remain on the same or similar schedules as in years prior, the number of TX bands taking up semifinal spots and competing within that finals bubble will become much larger in the future. |

Really hoping the additional Leander ISD school considering an appearance next year is either Rouse or Vista Ridge. Would have loved to seen Vandegrift come back next year, but it sounds like they have no plans to attend. I really want Vandy to return to grand nationals |

- Lockport Township
- Romeoville
- Wheaton North
- University
- Metamora
- Murphysboro
- Danville
Based on some rotating schedules and rumors floating around. Some might be taking the trip either in 2024/25.
Not attending
- Normal (London New Years Parade in 2025)

I think there are a few other bands in Texas that have tried to get on a more consistent schedule but COVID messed things up. For Keller, I'm pretty sure I had heard that they were originally going to come back in 2019 before they got their Macy's invite. Sounds like they are trying to do one big trip every 4 years.

My unhinged post for the morning is that, while I’m happy to see them as much as I can, I think there are a couple of Missouri bands who will have more success here once they graduate from the design that is holding them back.

Guess who else didn’t make semis that year? Rockford, Centerville, Nation Ford, Walled Lake, Lafayette (LA), Bentonville, Reeths-Puffer, North Hardin, Jenks, Bassett, Panther Creek, Morton, Carroll (IN), Mustang, Lincoln-Way, Central Hardin, Miamisburg, Jenison, Lake Hamilton… I could go on. That HAD to have been the most competitive GN in history, no? Or at least since 2000. I’m not a bonafide historian, though. I will always maintain that it was actually one of the weakest GNS at the top (evidenced by Carmel & Avon tying at the top, but each with fairly weak shows in their overall canons - and no TX champion potentials or BA attending), but the race to get into Finals was one of the deepest ever (Homestead, Vista Murrieta, Ayala, James Bowie, Union, Owasso, O'Fallon, MPLT, Franklin all popping top-12 sub caption numbers but ending up left out), and then of course that Semis race was ABSOLUTELY the deepest I have ever, ever, EVER seen. Too deep, maybe - I think it deterred a number of bands from GN for a bit. It's one thing not to make Finals on a crowded year, but another to travel a long distance just to not advance past Prelims. Rockford, Centerville (the one and only time), Nation Ford, Walled Lake, Lafayette, Bentonville, Jenks (who would make Finals on their next trip 2 seasons later), Panther Creek, Morton, Carroll (their last and only GN trip until this season), Ben Davis, Mustang, Jenison, Lincoln-Way. WOOF! My far the most competitive Semis threshold ever. Back to your regularly-scheduled programming : ) This was bands 31-60 in 2016 Grand Nationals. Rockford Centerville Nation Ford Walled Lake Central Lafayette Adair Co. Bentonville Reeths-Puffer North Hardin Jenks Bassett Panther Creek Lake Central Morton Carroll Ben Davis Mustang Lincoln-Way Central Hardin Campbell Co. Lake Hamilton Miamisburg Jenison Westlake Paragould Bellbrook Father Ryan Hardin Valley Lake Orion Southmoore To my knowledge, just about every single one of those bands has been a semi-finalist, most multiple times. 48 bands broke 80 and 57 broke 75. |

I would love to see some Louisiana and Mississippi bands. 😩 Dutchtown won States with their Wednesday show, and Central Lafourche both on the up and up, and Lafayette in 3rd at States with a beautiful show as well, St. Amant, and E.D. White Catholic which is the perfect contender for Class 1A who placed in top 8 at States.
Imagine South Jones, DeSoto Central, and Hernando, Central Lafourche, w/Jenison, Morton, Catawba and maybe Kiski I would explode
