I have a question. Is there a reason that the order of Classes is switched every besides A? I always was curious about that.

I have a question. Is there a reason that the order of Classes is switched every besides A? I always was curious about that. paddy got it. Basically, the story goes around 2010 or so, Class B bands were upset of having to go first every year. ISSMA kept putting B first because they wanted to separate the B and A classes to avoid any serious logistics issues in the parking lot. A proposal went around saying that the B-C-D contingents would all take turns going first, with B at least a class away from A to avoid said logistics problems. It passed, and it goes on some kind of rotation that I can't remember. It's something like B-C-D-A, C-B-D-A and D-B-C-A, and would repeat (That's the general gist of it, I don't remember the specific order).

Good morning. Today's the day. I can't wait. Where's everyone sitting? In sitting around the 50.

Good morning. Today's the day. I can't wait. Where's everyone sitting? In sitting around the 50. Not sure. Some years I sit high, some low. I’m a guard chick and like the whole design aspect! But since I’ve had a kid in band, I’ve enjoyed sitting lower and actually listening 🤷🏼♀️. When I walk into Lucas Oil, I’ll go where the mood takes me!

It’s sad how the long time powers have declined in Class B. 😥 Who are you talking about? Thirty years ago when I was marching in class B, Greenwood was the big power. They're still around. Many of the other powers have changed classes -- Concord, Plainfield, Homestead (in the early 90s), but are also still around.

Avon, Goshen and Floyd Central all moved to Class A. All are still marching and competing. Anderson Highland is no longer a school (consolidated with Anderson HS). Not sure where New Castle Chrysler is though.

New Castle is still class B but they competed in Scholastic this year. I know at one point they dropped down to class C. Let's see... Avon, Goshen and Floyd Central all moved to Class A. All are still marching and competing. Anderson Highland is no longer a school (consolidated with Anderson HS). Not sure where New Castle Chrysler is though.

Not what they used to be. Specifically, Northview, Jasper, Greenwood. Which is what typically happens when long time director's retire.

I said decline. Not what they used to be. Specifically, Northview, Jasper, Greenwood. Which is what typically happens when long time director's retire. Northview and Jasper were trending downwards long before their directors retired. Greenwood was nowhere near a decline and are easing in a first-year director. You never know on the current landscape of B today- I'll put down some quick thoughts in the next post down. There certainly was a period of time when the top of Class B was very competitive, but times have changed since as they always do. We are in a new era of Class B. It'll be difficult to know whether the top Class B bands could ever reach the bottom of Class A at all. And that's fine! The competitive landscape changes every decade (maybe every 5 years or so), but the tribulations has always been the same in spirit (yes, I know technically has been changes, etc.). Every ISSMA class champion is worth celebrating. Today in B, it's Greenfield-Central's day after hearty competition from Northview, Greenwood and Munster.

Congratulations to Greenfield-Central on the B championship! Some thoughts: 1. I literally thought it was between GC and Northview with Northview edging out a bit, but clearly GC had the judges convinced. 2. Pendleton Heights has potential 5 years down the road. Still lots of design stuff to figure out, but the sound has me thinking they'd be a powerhouse. 3. I know scores had Munster pretty close to the top this year, but it's a "no cigar" for me. Munster has everything in place, just missing the right show to get them to the state championship. 4. Northview, for whatever internal turmoil there is, did not look like said turmoil. I hope it remains that way. 5. Evansville should feel very proud of their bands. Unfortunately, I had to take off for a personal emergency (don't worry everything is fine now). I won't be able to head back into state finals . However, I'm with all the fans in the stands in spirit. Good luck to all remaining bands!
