It's that time of year again! Happy 2024 Grand Nationals Week! This thread will be for discussion leading up to the first band stepping off in prelims at 7:00 on Thursday! Discussion about which bands you're excited to see, final predictions, etc., are all welcome topics. For those attending in-person for the first time and have any questions about the event, places to go/eat in Indianapolis, etc., there are plenty of great people on this forum to ask, some of whom that will also be working the event. Allohak , hewhowaits , thewho , and 70sguardchick are great sources for answers, as are some of our other forum folk that have attended Grand Nationals numerous times. This thread will be available throughout the duration of this week but there will be other discussion threads for each round of Grand Nationals. The Prelims thread will go live early Thursday morning before the first band steps off, the Semifinals thread will go live following the Prelims Awards Ceremony, and the Finals thread will go live following the Semifinals Awards Ceremony. Welcome to Indy, everyone! Thanks, bigtrombone for the shout-out – I work just a couple of blocks for Lucas Oil, so am happy to give some recs and directions! Construction around LOS isn’t too terrible, but they are building a new hotel just across from the Convention Center. If you are coming south on Capitol around Georgia St be sure to stay to the right, because the left lane ends suddenly. Makes my commute home in the evenings a real treat. There may be some lane closures headed north on Illinois St as well. PARKING has some new twists. The parking area on the Southeast side of LOS will be available for $20 – This has been used for ADA parking in the past, but that has been moved to just NW of the bus parking. Bring a credit card. All of LOS is cashless, including the adjacent parking. What used to be called Gate Ten Parking changed hands (long and juicy story – ya gotta pay your rent, folks…). It is now called Horseshoe Parking and is owned by iPark. You can reserve a spot in advance online by the day at www.ipco.services/payments/events . It’s $30 a day for cars, or $150 if you have an RV and want to park it overnight. Circle Center Mall is a shell of its former self. Don’t even plan on it for quick food, IMO. Taco Bell and Chick fil A both moved to Washington Street. You can get a relatively cheap, tasty and filling breakfast at Lincoln Square on Capitol Across from the Statehouse. If you want to head over to check out the Fever/Pacers gift shop, there’s a place called Sauce on the Side across the street that makes all kinds of calzones. And there’s always Shapiro’s. They were being super strict about the clear bag policy at the ISSMA finals yesterday, even though the official policy says you can bring in a small clutch purse. What else do you want to know?? |

They're sure to give the crowd something the kids will feel more connection to style-wise than the usual Big37 exhibition groups. That said, Ohio St and Michigan are better than the average Big86 band too |

Watched a video of their show and that guard is MASSIVE Glad it hear it as a member of the Missouri State band. Hadn’t seen hardly any discussion about our being there so was curious. And yes, our guard is massive. I think we are at either 95 or 99 in it. Not sure on the exact number but we’re just a couple short of having a 100 member guard. |

Tarpon probably has the most advanced visual book out all the bands attending grand nats. I’m not sure how that will be judged compared to squeaky clean Indiana band tho. It always seems that execution > difficulty is the norm in BOA judging. |

Watch for a schedule change for Thursday. The rumored 114th group appears ready to be added at 7:00 a.m. with everyone else moving 15 minutes later.
I was told MFA made the conscious decision to only update schedules when they publish the "final" schedule during show week. As we have seen, it is still possible to see another update to "final V2."
