Texas is 6 for 6 on a “non-strong” year according to them? 😭
Lord! Also congrats to MC! So excited to catch that performance today.
Best of luck to my Ohio bands. All things are possible!

Well that is my question. Who is in the range of 1-22 and who is in the range of 23-30. We actually don’t know this. The two middle blocks only consist of the top 11 of each panel in draw board order. From 1999 through 2022, the middle 22 spots were the top 22 scores overall from prelims, regardless of day/panel. In 2023, the rules changed such that the middle spots are panel dependent. Thus, we can’t make clean assumptions of who actually placed 1-22 or 23-30. Ah gosh dang it, that always gets me. Top 11 in each panel not “top 22”

Besides who is the range of 1-22 and who is in the range of 23-30, nothing Well that is my question. Who is in the range of 1-22 and who is in the range of 23-30. The “next 8” are the first 8 bands of the day, and the top 11 from each panel are in the two blocks after that

Congrats to all the bands that performed at prelims and have now advanced to semifinals! Here are some thoughts going into the day...
Today will be a great showing of bands from 1 through 35, but will still be very tight as everyone prepares to cross the finish line today.
NEXT 8 OUT -some of these lot report times and warmup up times are rough ... with a few of these groups that were hoping to sneak into the top 22 I'm sure they planned to rehearse and they do not have that chance to make a few of those things clearer. Biggest surprise of the weekend to everyone seems to be Brownsburg not making top 22, imo with a stacked panel 2 and a show that doesn't get the crowd going, I think that held them back in prelims but let's see what happens this morning
TOP 22 -with a deep panel 2 and a thinned out panel 1 this should make for an interesting afternoon. When you look at the panel lists, the top 11 from panel 2 could be a finalist list in a year many band don't come to GN. Avon, Carmel, WM, Tarpon, BA, and CP have great musical packages and they have done this drill plenty of times before, they know how to perform in the big house. DB and Castle have shows that are powerful and consistent all the way through. Homestead, Bridgeland, OF, AF, and Prosper all present a good case to make finals but some tight turn arounds and and travel plans, I don't know how things will shake out. These 5 are a toss up and the kids have to be sharp. Fishers has turned on in the last few weeks, with some clever restaging and cleaning up feet and music, they will know how to finish. Fishers and Leander to me have a great performance slot, with their best run of the season on the lien they can very well edge out the other bubble groups
CLASS REPS -this is always a packed house for the top 22 but seeing the big groups families and friends support each other is always the best part of the weekend for me.
Finals predictions (in random order) Carmel DB BA Fishers Mason CP Bridgeland Leander Castle AF Tarpon Avon
Good luck to all the bands performing today!

Argyle HS, TX: Feisty and full of pep, betraying a pedigree that defies definition. This band has a stature and trim that few others can match. Expect the unexpected..and you’ll still be surprised.
Score: 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕 #WithTheSudlerShieldOrOnIt

Argyle was absolutely the perfect band to kick off semis. What a beautiful and exciting show. Always a tough pill to swallow having to get up that early to perform, but I hope they enjoyed their GN experience and come back again.

"White Rose" by Caleb Hudson, known for his work with the Canadian Brass. Oh, man ... I'm excited. Deer Creek was one of the few bands I had to miss in prelims.

Deer Creek HS, TS: A whimsical minx. Playful and bold. As deft as is daft, and unapologetic about making a scene while being seen. This band has come to play, and plays to win. Score: 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕 #WithTheSudlerShieldOrOnIt

Glad the Deer Creek soloists shook the nerves out of them this time around! Wonderful performance! And nice mouthpiece save mello guy, I can imagine the panic you felt lol

Wonderful job by Deer Creek. I love that they went with a more subdued ending for a show like that. It was like a perfect movie soundtrack.

Deer Creek making the cut last night was a surprise for me but they absolutely solidified their position today and I am so happy for them. Such an emotionally powerful show.

Very very nice job Deer Creek! And kudos to all there in the stadium this morning. I made myself stand up at the kitchen counter through the first two bands in an attempt at solidarity with everyone making a much larger effort this early morning there on site.

Oh my word Deer Creek!! I’m ELATED y’all made semis this year and what a performance you brought! Gorgeous brass work paired with some impressive visual and many very nice woodwind moments. The soloists killed it, I’m just so so proud!

Present 🫡
EDIT: Thanks for all the love, but I'm present from my bed at 6:50 am. Let's not misconstrue this as undying loyalty for trudging out early to the stadium.... although undying loyalty as a phrase is still true.

Franklin HS, TN: Mild mannered tranquility with beguiling ferociousness. A band like this comes once in a generation. Few will ever match the exhuberant and bombastic tenacity of this unbridled force of nature.
Score: 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕 #WithTheSudlerShieldOrOnIt

Franklin has really stuck to their recent trend of bringing quirky, fun shows to the field these past few years and I'm loving it. They're a little smaller than I remember them, but still a very strong program. I'm glad they advanced and got the chance to perform today.
For as disappointing as it is to be missing such great bands that didn't advance, these first few have really delivered even with the awful call times and have shown they belong here.
