Deer Creek, that was wonderful. I had Argyle just out in my Semis predictions but knew they could easily be in. Deer Creek I had pretty low on Panel #1, but something about their Prelims performance grabbed me, and I kept mentally revisiting it throughout the last two days. It's not the most interesting show up front but something about the design & performance stays with you and makes you want to see & hear more, and despite having them low in my Prelims predictions, I was immediately happy & hardly surprised when they were called early on as a Semifinalist. Upon two readings, the show is a whole vibe, and I still can't describe it exactly. Not quite wistful, not quite pensive, not quite melancholy, but also somehow a subtle mix of all of those at once? I feel like I could revisit that show a few more times this weekend and still be intrigued. What an unusual feeling Deer Creek has managed to capture this year, one I still can't quite describe. I am beyond thrilled they made Semis, and that was an exceptionally worthy performance, and a show I will revisit frequently. Well done & well deserved, Deer Creek! That was magical. Keep coming back!!
Franklin, total opposite, a clear & straightforward show, also completely worthy of a Semis performance! I'm thrilled for Franklin, they've been through a lot of changes the last few years, and are clearly not going anywhere. I thought their Semis berth was quite justified and they proved that they earned their place in the contest this morning. A show & performance very much worthy of the top 30. Same with Deer Creek, I could also happily watch that one a few more times this weekend, they're just plain GOOD. Great show, great band!

If there's anyone still looking for tickets, my wife and I bought tickets in the 438 (side 2 30, just below the press box) but our director managed to find field passes for us so we no longer need them. They were $75 a piece; please feel free to DM me if you're interested!

Brownsburg HS, IN: A captivating little moppet, equal parts scoundrel and sophisticate. This band has impeccable lineage and a propensity for upsetting the rigid structures that seek to define (but cannot contain) her multitudes.
Score: 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕 #WithTheSudlerShieldOrOnIt

Have loved watching your growth all season Brownsburg! Y'all sound amazing! I do feel they have it in them to pull out a slightly more difficult music book.

The fact that this was a "next 8" show is still blowing my mind. This feels like a Saturday night show to me.

Okay Brownsburg! Lots of really great moments in that show. The dramatic walk off was so cool. Great performance!

Brownsburg. I feel like, thematically, this show has it, but I'm not sure if this will make finals anymore given the early slot and some visual dirt. Then again, what do I know?

Brownsburg’s show this year has always encapsulated me. The design is so perfect and truly screams theatrical production. I could listen and watch that show from a design standpoint all day and be content. Today’s performance gave me just that, but I still feel that the brass this season haven’t found that ‘Brownsburg Bark.’ Nonetheless, their show is definitely one for the books ❤️

Percentage wise, likely the last competitive performance for some of these next 8 bands this morning. So smaller crowd in the stands and seemingly less fanfare after a season of truly hard work but well, well done. Your communities are proud.

I'm not really sure what to say about Brownsburg. That whole performance just felt so out of place this early and next to the (still wonderful) bands that performed prior. Sure, there were some spread brass tones and a few minor timing blips to start, but...this is a confusing one for me. Had they performed in the middle 22, I have to imagine most of their sub captions would have popped in the top 12. I hope it's not just a matter of perspective and their numbers aren't held down because of their performance slot. Huh. I thought maybe I would understand their low Prelims result after their performance today, but I just don't.

Brownsburg is a difficult read because they do somethings so well and some things so not as amazing.
I hope for the students sake they figure out some music design stuff in the off-season.
It feels like the staff, students, and most of the design team is putting in crazy amounts of work but just don't have the vehicle.

Okay Brownsburg! Lots of really great moments in that show. The dramatic walk off was so cool. Great performance! I did love that the director went straight out on the field when they were finished and walked until there were no students behind him to make sure he was the last one off the field. I imagine exhaustion and emotions are high.

Thrilled that I got to watch that Walled Lake show one more time. They were a favorite of mine in prelims and delivered once again. The common theme woven throughout the show really brought it to life.

Wow Norwin! Such a great sound for their size. An entertaining show. The students really bought in to the concept. I loved that!

The fact that this was a "next 8" show is still blowing my mind. This feels like a Saturday night show to me. I assume when we see the recaps they outscored some of the top 11 from panel 1. My gut is panel 2 was the higher scoring panel.

Hate that I missed the first few groups but WOW I picked a good one to start my day with at least! GREAT JOB NORWIN!!! What a fantastic show, and speaking as not just a band geek but also a Swiftie, that's the best arrangement and best performance of Exile that I've seen from any group! Definitely a run to be proud of!

Walled Lake was terrific! Two Semis berths in a row on TOUGH years, they have so much to be proud of, and absolutely earned their place today. They have really solidified themselves as a gold standard group!
Norwin was absolutely spectacular. Can you all please come to GN more frequently?? I didn't catch their show title in Prelims or today and I don't care, the vibe is great throughout the production and the talent levels of the entire group, top to bottom, are prodigious. Such an easy show to get into. Norwin was a pure treat to watch in both Prelims & Semis.

I'm a big fan of Rosemount! This is a really mature ensemble in all facets. Not as clean as yesterday, but that prelims run was really tight.

Rosemount was the best we've ever seen them by far. My only followup is to echo what I said in Prelims: they need more of Wes's attention! This group feels so hungry & capable of biting off much more thematically! I say let's give it to them, they seem more than ready. Terrific, clean run today, Rosemount; thank you for coming back down this year!!
