Uh so Carmel got a 4 for sure maybe not a 4peat but they got 4th so I guess that’s close enough

Wow- we know that Texas had 6 in finals, but Indiana had 5 of the top 14! The dominance of these two states at the top is incredible.

Whoever said Vandegrift needed a dance team was wrong. Yeah, a lot of bad predictions are made on this day every year. About twelve hours ago, we were also told by someone to "bank on" Park Vista making Finals.

I felt Leander was scored a bit too low but I also felt scored where a little bit deflated overall.

Park Vista was very very good but I could tell it wasn’t enough

A lot of shifts from semis to finals.
Hebron: 4 -> 3 Leander: 3 -> 5 Carmel: 6 -> 4 CTJ: 5 -> 6 Woodlands: 7 -> 8 Mason: 8 -> 7 Homestead: 9 ->10
Not to mention the caption awards being split among 1, 2, and 3
Also, all kinds of rather large changes and jumps from prelims.

boahistorybuff Is this the first time ever that a band won GN on 1st trip?

I really don't intend to bag on Indiana, but I feel it ought to be noted that all 6 bands that traveled from Texas made finals. 6/6. Most of them placed better here than they did in SA. Indiana is great, but the sheer depth that comes from Texas is truly unrivaled. Obviously I'm biased though, as you can tell from the name.

Vandegrift was just one tenth back of Avon in visual performance.

Amazing performances from all the bands! I am especially proud of the band my kiddo is in. Go Leander! They plan to be at Grand Nationals in 3 years. My kiddo will be a senior then. By that point I might know much more about marching band competition. Thank you all for being patient with me and providing me with so much insight!

I get that but size wise you literally can put 7 Indiana’s in the state of Texas as well as Texas having more metro areas to produce from. No one is arguing Texas depth. I think the Indiana vs. Texas debate is so hard because stylistically they’re so different.

But if you add Broken Arrow, Tarpon, Blue Springs, and Wando (those are the big names that come to my mind) who’s still there to play? Yes, we’d have to consider Vista, Ronald Reagan (which we could assume would be in.) My point is this isn’t a Texas vs. Indiana or Texas vs. The USA. This is one activity and we can appreciate EVERY band from wherever they are from. The “Texas pride” makes me giggle. I am super happy for Vandegrift, they obviously deserved it (won all 3 rounds.) The Eagle is headed to Austin.

Ayala is a great example of this, bringing a very unique feeling to the field. I really did mean what I said about not wanting to bag on Indiana. There is so much talent and hard work that comes from the midwest region, and Indiana in particular. That being said, it is hard for me at a time like this to quell my Texas pride 😆

Now that this is over, who is coming to Grand Nationals next year? Does it come back to Texas?
Broken Arrow Carmel Avon Blue Springs Vista Ridge
Don’t know: Ronald Reagan? Tarpon? (Still has 1 year (once every 3 years correct?)) Wando Marcus

Poor Fishers. They’ve been on the wrong side of the bubble too often. Sooner or later they’re going to break in.

Congratulations to Team Texas. Just an fyi. Vandegrift,Leander and Round Rock are all in the same football district along with Vista Ridge, Cedar Ridge and Hendrickson whom did not attend. We have some great halftime shows in district 13-6a.

When was the last time the winner of a super regionals score was higher than the winner of nationals ?

Now that I'm finally back from watching finals in person, here were my personal finals rankings after watching everyone live from the 500s level:
Vandegrift Avon Carmel Leander CTJ Hebron William Mason Ayala The Woodlands Round Rock Union Homestead
Music-Hebron or Vandegrift Visual-Avon GE-literally had no idea... Vandegrift/Avon/Carmel/CTJ
Obviously my predictions were a bit off, but I was extremely shocked at the difference I was listening & watching to on Flomarching vs. live performances. General effect comes across much different in-person than on a TV screen.

Byrnes I believe is on rotation. Dobyns Bennett will be back as well as Tarpon. Kennesaw Mountain might be back. The big question mark is Wando at the moment...

Poor Fishers. They’ve been on the wrong side of the bubble too often. Sooner or later they’re going to break in. By my posts, it's pretty obvious I'm in support of their program since they're definitely on the rise. Their show this year figured out visual things that were lacking from last year, and I expect them to come at it next year with an even bigger show with even more visual. Will it be next year? Who knows. Just hope they don't pull 2 again, and we'll all be good.

Congrats to Vandegrift on their 2019 BOA National Championship!!!! It was so awesome to see them come to Indy for the first time and take home their first ever title all in the same year! To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of Carmel this year and was able to understand why they didn't medal. I am so glad they split the caption awards up between the top 3 to create more suspense, but also because each one of the top 3 bands worked their butts off. Hebron was beautiful and I am so glad they took home 3rd. All in all, it was another amazing weekend of Marching band performances, and I cannot wait to see what next year brings!
