wondering how "random" that finalists order is. For context, here are the possible placement ranges for each of the bands based on prelims results and finals performance order: 1-2 Broken Arrow 1-7 Blue Springs 2-3 Haltom 3-4 LD Bell 4-7 O'Fallon Township 4-7 Coppell 4-7 Union 8-13 Stephen F. Austin 8-14 Camdenton 8-14 Southlake Carroll 8-14 Bentonville 8-14 Lake Travis 8-14 Jenks 9-14 Rosemount

Very surprised with Stephen F. Austin... I’m curious how a single panel of judges will rank the bands going for 2-5.

wondering how "random" that finalists order is. It's never truly random. It's meant to build suspense. Rosemount is not 13

The finals schedule is not a top 7 bottom 7 thing. Order is completely random

I find it interesting how 2 of the music judges for the harder panel with the Texas bands are from Texas.. just saying it’s a weird coincidence Are you insinuating that there is bias towards Texas bands from the judges?

Are you insinuating that there is bias towards Texas bands from the judges? Yes Texas definitely didn’t get the memo at GN in 2016 or 2017 😂

Honestly SFA could probably place in the top half musically

Im biased... but SFA just probably had their best performance of the decade. Good lord was that a good run.

I’m so in love with that Jenks show. 🥰🥰 It reminded me of something the Avon winter guard would do!

St. Louis stream has been cutting out for large chunks all day. It's getting pretty irritating.
SFA was fantastic. I can't recall a year recently where they've been this strong, all while fielding about half the winds a lot of the larger groups are fielding.
Jenks was a lot of fun, but I don't quite know what I just watched. I'm assuming I missed a key transition in their show while my stream bugged out. Good to see they're maintaining their performance quality in a year following their first GN finals appearance!

What the heck is going on here? Am I really watching the bottom half of St. Louis finals right now?
I can't remember a recent St. Louis finals starting off quite this strong. All three so far were phenomenal.

I had the same thoughts about Jenks, especially when the multi cam cut the “office scene” lol very confused lol great band though

Are you meaning that a bottom 7 prelim band cant end up in the top 7? Yes, they can. It is just rare because the difference in quality between the geoups is exaggerated when they are separated the way they are.

I'm just thinking, you can correct the downside of a 2 judging panel system by removing the top 7 bottom 7 rule in finals. It's just too convenient for these judges to have those perceive brackets in place.

There used to be one panel for prelims and finals like regionals. Especially with 14 finalists. Wouldn’t necessarily be a correction for those bands who didn’t make the top 14 though

In case anyone wanted a clinic on a well-executed subdued ending, I suggest reaching out to someone at Camdenton.

I still love that Rosemount show, but I think I now understand why they placed 3rd in class in prelims. There were intonation issues, both in the woodwinds and in the high brass. High brass in particular was a bit rough. Comparing both Blue Springs and Rosemount to their Iowa performance, it's clear Blue Springs has grown the most since then. Still, that Rosemount show is a pleasure. I hope they keep bringing productions like this to the table.

Rosemount didn't live up to the hype, IMO. Basic Cartwright show. BA mash-up. I'm bitter tonight. LOL.
But for real, I'm so happy for those kids.
