All great points. Regardless of placement I think all of the bands that decided to do UIL are in a slight advantage position if not only because they had the opportunity to put on a full field show and have it judged at a very high level. You’re right that the only two bands going to nationals not to do UIL are Vista Ridge and Reagan. I’m not sure if Reagan did something similar to Vista Ridge in putting on a sort-of-show but if they didn’t then to be quite honest they are in a sort of disadvantage. Reagan did a 2020 show! “Different doesn’t mean worse,” you can find it on the unmentionable site. It was great. But dare I say CTJ was better that sounds vaguely familiar! Edit: Found it! POGGERS  I think we're all forgetting one band from "The Land of 10,000 Lakes' and a consecutive winner of YIM. Rosemount has been peaking early in recent years. If they have the right show and find a way to pace their season well, they could absolutely turn some heads... But this lineup is pretty labyrinthine Last years lockdown has definitely not been good for Minnesota and the northern bands. From what I've heard Rosemount's numbers has definitely gone down. Add the fact this is their first GN in recent years. They could get lucky and surprise us with a super show, but I agree with others assessment, they are probably outside looking in. |

Minnesota bands "peak early" because their state championships are the second weekend of October. And sometimes there's already snow showers by then! As for Rosemount, in 2019 they marched 276 kids (226 musicians, 45 guard, 5 drum majors). Looking at their band camp pictures from a week or two ago, they don't look *that* big... but they certainly aren't tiny, either. They're still well over 200 kids. |

Honestly though just everyone above them is so good. The director changes at Reagan putting them in the bottom half is my prediction.
My worry with Blue Springs is numbers. I think they recently went from 4A to 3A. Even if you watch im not wendy they were absolutely huge, and in 2019 maybe somewhere in the 120s for winds. Still a big band but perhaps the pandemic hurt this further. Could be completely wrong…

Blue Springs was 3A in 2019 but should be back to 4A this year. The area has been growing like mad.
And even with 136 winds in 2019, they still took 3rd at BOA Indy Super, right behind Avon and Carmel. Dr. Allshouse is one of the best in the country, Blue Springs will be fine.

Then it seems like they cut almost a third in size or more in 2018, but skyrocketed up in quality, so I assumed they had gone to an audition-based membership for their band, but again, just my assumption. Anyone have any insight? |

I think Jenks also went 100% audition only in 2018. The same year they made Grand National finals for the first time.
