Likely/Rumored (12): Haltom H.S., TX No GN on Haltom’s calendar. Looks like they’ll be ending their season with UIL.

My Early Picks: 1. Homestead (Music, GE, Visual) 2. Ronald Reagan 3. Avon 4. Vista Ridge 5. Broken Arrow 6. Carmel 7. Flower Mound 8. Marcus 9. Tarpon Springs 10. CTJ 11. Blue Springs 12. The Woodlands Yep, did a spit take at that. You play a dangerous game of jinx riding a very fine line. But then I can only hope with you 😂 Well, off the record I'd probably place them in the 14-16 range as a pre-season prediction based on historical performance. But I don't think this is a good year for my normal pessimism. So officially I'm going the other way this season. Maybe not full crazy like that pick, but someone has to have their back. Why not me?

Likely/Rumored (12): Haltom H.S., TX No GN on Haltom’s calendar. Looks like they’ll be ending their season with UIL. The calendar shows an Orlando trip departing the day after UIL Region contest during a week with no school. An Orlando trip and Grand Nationals in the same year would be very expensive.

My Early Picks:
1. Vista Ridge (Music) 2. Broken Arrow (GE) 3. Avon (Visual) 4. Marcus 5. Ronald Reagan 6. CTJ 7. Carmel 8. Flower Mound 9. Tarpon Springs 10. The Woodlands 11. Blue Springs 12. Homestead (I’m on the Homestead Bandwagon) 💯
The City of San Antonio along with other cities and counties are suing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott over the governor’s executive order banning local governments and entities from imposing mask and individual COVID ordinances.
Considering the Delta Variant current path. Podium predictions for those less than 500 miles from Indianapolis.
1. Avon 2. Carmel 3. Blue Springs

They sound Brasstastic!

I’m a little hesitant of judging CTJ based on band camp clips if only because in 2019 they had this jaw-dropping clip that had everyone believing they were the champions and then that did not pan out.

I don’t want to jinx Vista Ridge with this early season hype because they’re my personal favorites but it’s hard not to root for them a lot.

Can they just expand finals to 14 bands, please? Phew.
Addendum: They’ll probably do that before they release the enrollment lists, at this point.

We already had that in 1995, the year before semifinals was added, when it went down to 10, then back to 12 in 1997. The weekend is already ridiculously long enough as it is...

I was half-joking just because this year is so unbelievably stacked, but I definitely hear you. Another half hour to accommodate for two extra bands is a lot after an already very long day.

I fully expect the season to continue, though I do expect that some schools, including some finalist-tier schools, will withdraw from competitions. I also would not be surprised if BOA makes the finals retreat drum majors only.

Agreed. We all know the CTJ brass line is always top notch. It’s usually show design that is an issue for them IMO - but maybe that’s another topic

If BOA makes any finals retreat drum majors only, they would be incredibly stupid to do so. Think about it: You're already around hundreds & thousands of people multiple throughout the weekend. Life is all full of risks, including catching OTHER viruses and those that are of much greater threats to students, but we had plenty of finals retreats over the years where that wasn't even discussed on any level - ever. If there is a 2021 BOA Grand National Championships, it should resemble the last one.. in 2019. Not a wacko, paranoid event. My opinion. If the surge follows form in the UK and India, it will be over by October. Might wreck September though... Sometimes I feel like we will never have another normal season. Or at least not for a long long time. I’m sure this is why MFA is dragging their feet on setting schedules and lists of participants. I’m not convinced there will be a season.

I, on the other hand, am cautiously, but extremely, optimistic that there will be a BOA season for those who want to and are able to participate. 🤞🏼 I’m not sure I can mentally survive another year without BOA. There will be local contests, sure, but BOA just hits different.

In my opinion, MFA can't financially afford to not hold a BOA Season two years in a row, so I think there will be a season. It just is going to feel extremely different, like this years DCI Season. I do think it's worth noting that each regionals detail section on the BOA website has a guest guidelines section that states, "Music For All will defer to CDC, State and Local guidelines and venue guidelines for safety and enforcement of policies."

I'm somewhat optimistic there will be some sort of season, maybe not the usual. I wouldn't be surprised to see some bands drop out of GN especially those that have to travel from a distance. I will say this just briefly because I know this is not the right forum for this. My husband is a hospital based physician and they are being hit hard, it is a BAD situation.

I think we will have some bands drop out here and there and it shouldn’t be a surprise if this does turn out to be the case. We already had American Fork withhold their nationals trip due to covid instead of just moving it over to the next year and that was months ago. I’m sorry for your husband. Stay strong.
