I'm somewhat optimistic there will be some sort of season, maybe not the usual. I wouldn't be surprised to see some bands drop out of GN especially those that have to travel from a distance. I will say this just briefly because I know this is not the right forum for this. My husband is a hospital based physician and they are being hit hard, it is a BAD situation. 😔♥️♥️

If the surge follows form in the UK and India, it will be over by October. Might wreck September though... Most schools can't afford to wait and see like that, though. Will be interesting. I agree with that, but that is different than being worried about BOA. We know much more today than we did a year ago. If we knew then what we knew now, Indiana would have had an ISSMA season last year. Heck, Indiana made it through an entire winter season (IPA, Winds and Guard) with minimal disruptions I can see log distance travelers decide not to come, and while that is a shame, there will still be BOA competitions going on.

Bands of America is still regularly featuring 2019 BOA bands on their Facebook, along with messages that say “check out our 2021 schedule” and “there’s still time to enroll,” etc, etc. If there wasn’t going to be a BOA season, I think we would know by now. It’s just over a month now until the first regional weekend. If they wait too much longer to cancel all BOA competitions, it’ll be short notice and a real kick in the teeth for fans and participating bands alike.

So I saw people talking about what if bands didn't come from a certain distance and if that happened, my top 12 and bubble list would suddenly look a lot different. I think most of us would have a very different list and the bubble list would really be crazy.
So here is my list if for some sad reason Texas bands suddenly can't leave the state.
Finalists (no order): Avon Carmel Broken Arrow Tarpon Springs Wando Blue Springs Homestead William Mason Dobyns-Bennett Fishers Lawrence Township O'Fallon
Top 8 Bubbles (no order): Castle Centerville Norwin Rockford Rosemount Brownsburg Center Grove Plymouth-Canton
If we were to bump the next two shots that could possibly not be able to come (Tarpon and Wando), then I'd do the following:
Bubble up to finals: Castle Rockford
Bumped into bubble: Miamisburg Lakota East
I could have really swapped in and around several of these bands including some I didn't mention which goes to show the parity among these groups. No matter how you slice it, we are looking into having a really good year! ☺️

Now do what it would look like if ONLY bands from over 500 miles show up. 😂 Challenge accepted! But I may be off on some bands as I don't know exact distance for everyone 😛 Finals (no order): Round Rock Marcus The Woodlands Ronald Reagan Claudia Taylor Johnson Flower Mound Vista Ridge Tarpon Springs Wando Broken Arrow Rosemount Mustang Bubble (Next 5 no order): Ardrey Kell Windermere Bentonville Greendale Lake Hamilton Let me tell you, the list of bands outside that 500 miles really starts to limit my options which is why I only did a next 5 lol. Blue Springs rides that line closely though as they are about 465 miles from LOS.

Now do what it would look like if ONLY bands from over 500 miles show up. 😂 Bubble (Next 5 no order): Greendale Greendale High School (WI) is 274 miles from Lucas Oil Stadium, and they've never even made semifinals yet. Not sure they're quite ready for the big time. Seriously, though, Greendale is probably Wisconsin's best marching band, though that's a fairly low bar. Probably most impressive is that they march about 200 kids out of a school of only 920 (9-12). And they are improving, they can usually hold their own against the big Chicago schools. I'd love to see them place in Class AA someday.

Yep. You're right. I was compiling the list during work (🤫) so it definitely slipped my mind. And like I said though, not too many choices over 500 miles cause that is quite the trip. I did see a few other options though. So you can replace them with...uhhh... Chattahoochee...I guess? They made semi's (by class).
Like I said, my knowledge of some of these farther groups becomes very limited so can only go off pay results I see. I guess maybe Easly as well? *Big shrugs* Look I'm doing my best just so everyone can have fun! 😜

I witnessed some of their kids at 2018 GN they were very polite and good mannered. Their shows are often quite good. My guess is they peak early with their weather conditions

Possibly. But I remember their most recent 2019 show and feel that that was verging on being criminally underscored imo.

My guess is they peak early with their weather conditions Looking at recaps, Greendale often scores very strongly in the general effect caption (60% of the score, for those that may not know) and the ensemble performance sub-captions, which is why they usually place so close to semi-finals. Incidentally, they also always seem to get the short straw for performance draws as they would have made semi-finals by class placement several times had they performed on the opposite prelims day (and scored the same with different judges). But what seems to consistently hold them back is the individual performance sub-caption. If they could enhance the individual details and refine their ensemble sound, they could do some really great things.

I remember back in 09 Greendale did a show called "Alone in a Crowd". It was pretty standard and run off the mill but they had a PHENOMENAL singer for their ballad. Like top 5 singers I've seen in a marching show. They were playing Nessun Dorma and the vocalist nailed it. Crowd went crazy for it cause no one was really expecting it. She got a standing ovation with genuinely enthusiastic applause rather than the polite clap type lol. It's that show that gave me a soft spot for them and could see the potential.

Even more impressive then!
Another band that made an impression on me way back in the 'ye olde' days of late 2000's was Miamisburg. They had a show about Little Red Riding Hood and omg it was a blast. The wolf rapped and at the end, the guard girls all dressed as LRRH all attacked and brutally murdered the wolf. It was a really fun show if anyone else remembers that show.
I should probably start a thread for us too share memories of old shows we love that may not have been S-tier asked, but were still memorable and fun to watch. Those shower that left a lasting impression on us either in a good or bad way.
