In another positive sign of progress, I know that our band has been given their Prelims performance time for GNats. Friday morning? Affirmative.

CTJ performs Thursday evening. I guess they’re spreading the Texas bands out this year. This means that CTJ did not request a Friday performance slot and was part of the random draw. Adding them to the Thursday evening block that is traditionally filled with local heavy hitters like Carmel and Avon, along with other high-quality groups from nearby states, will just add to the quality of that block. And to the difficulty of achieving a high placing within that judging panel. In 2019, the Thursday evening block included CTJ, Avon, Carmel, and William Mason - 4 of the top 7 in finals. Add in Park Vista, James F. Byrnes, Lawrence Township, North Hardin, and Ben Davis - and you have 9 semifinalists on score among the 13 groups in the evening block along with Center Grove having the highest score by a non-semifinalist. Also of note - by choosing to perform in the random draw, CTJ avoids an early morning wake up call on Friday as well as not being lumped in with all the other Texas bands and other long-distance travelers. The first block on Friday in 2019 included 5 finalists and 1 other semifinalist.

You won't be alone in that! I tell people that GN is my "March Madness" and that it is easily in my top 3 dates of the entire year (Christmas being among the others).

November Neurosis perhaps? 😉 It’s even more so for Texans because it begins with UIL and BOA in the Alamodome and then culminates with GN in Lucas Oil Stadium. 😵💫

The only reason the Indy Supers, Indiana State Finals, and GN isn't back to back to back is cause Regionals (the contest to determine the state finalists) is always the weekend before State. Still, it's a pretty whirlwind of the end of the season! That said, I'm just glad our state finals is on the weekend rather thank during the week like yours lol. I had a great time though of getting to experience your flurry of shows of SA, State, and finally GN. One of the best times of my life! Especially since I got to witness when Vista Ridge climbed the ladder and placed better and better with each performance all the way to the state title!

Semi-state is the weekend before state finals, but your overall point stands. I would argue that ISSMA semi-state is part of the madness as that is the weekend multiple crazy things happen. It never fails that the weather semi-state weekend is worse than Indy Super regionals and ISSMA State Finals and all 80 bands are stuck outside in that crap. I would vote to move semi-state to week days if that meant moving inside.

Eh, I have a wife that doesn't care about drum corps/marching band, plus it's our anniversary. Not to mention, I'm off that week, the week after, work two days from home and then it's Thanksgiving.

Not sure where to post this… is anyone seeing or hearing anything? I’ve seen no videos at all which is somewhat unusual by the end of August
