I would imagine rehearsal videos, a lot of parent preview performances happening around this time of year, etc. Thats what I was thinking too but then wondered if maybe it was a BOA video he was referring to. I know Leander didn’t even do their Parent Preview. Lots of bands canceling or postponing those this season due to Covid.

With football games now starting up, I'm guessing we'll see more videos start to pop up. I have been to a Homestead rehearsal and already really enjoy what I've seen and heard. They are really going to be a fan favorite I think this year. But at the same time, I don't think videos this early would do anything justice. Way least wait till the first or second week of September. By that point you'll have a better and more refined look at the shows. Plus, Texas didn't start learning drill anyway until the beginning of the month. We've got time. 🙂

The covid situation is not looking good in Texas so a lot of bands really are just focusing on keeping their students safe and securing a somewhat-season going forwards.

We are already seeing schools districts here in Indiana being impacted by covid. So far they have been Elementary and Middle Schools. Some have quarantined the students in question and others have closed the school completely and have gone back to remote learning for a few weeks. I’ve seen no videos at all which is somewhat unusual by the end of August More and more programs are getting more and more public about telling their families to NOT post anything until after the show has been performed at a competition. This is both for the "keep it under wraps" aspect and potential copyright issues prior to all permissions being received.

Perversely, going virtual or hybrid, while a sign of issues, likely increases the chances that some bands can compete at full strength. You will see bands show up at events with 20 holes and that will really skew the field.

More Texas hospitals are reporting a shortage of ICU beds than at any other time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the state 18 months ago. It’s seems the Dallas area is the epicenter right now but we’re seeing this same rate of bed shortages in Central Texas just this week. At least a dozen or so North Texas football games scheduled for Friday have been cancelled. I don’t see this translating well for our band programs within the next few weeks :/

In the Midwest there is still time. A number of schools in Indiana have instituted mask mandates and/or gone hybrid to slow the spread. They might be able to mitigate the big impact and help keep things rolling for schools and extra-curricular activities.

Saw The Woodlands perform part of their show tonight. It's a very whimsical show, gave very similar vibes to their 2019 sailor show.

Tarpon Springs might be questionable for Nationals. They have their calendar ending at Florida Bandmasters Association 11/5 with winter guard tryouts the next week.

If Blue Springs is back in AAAA, a class exhibition is extremely likely in AAA, even with Tarpon dropping.

If Blue Springs is back in AAAA, a class exhibition is extremely likely in AAA, even with Tarpon dropping. I believe Blue Springs' class of 2021 was one of their smallest in years, and an anomaly. I think they'll be around 1,850 (10-12) this Fall, which should put them in AAAA. Homestead should be around 1,850 (10-12) also, so AAAA. Rosemount has been steadily growing, I think their days in AAA are over. They should be around 1,900 and in AAAA. I don't know how many kids Wando lost to the new school in their district, but Wando was massive before the split (around 3,000 just in 10-12) so I think they'll still be in AAAA. Dobyns-Bennett should be between 1,700 and 1,800 so they are right on the AAA/AAAA line, could go either way. Assuming they are AAA, they are probably the only AAA school capable of being Top 12 and not getting the exhibition performance on Saturday night. Castle is still in the middle of the AAA range at about 1,450 so they are another possibility. After that we're looking at real longshots or schools who would be making their first appearance in Finals, like Franklin or Miamisburg.

They are still over 3,000 this year. Although in 2022 they may be smaller as this current senior class can still go to Wando even if they are zoned for Lucy Beckham. I imagine they will always be AAAA.

I love how difficult it gets to predict AA once you remove Tarpon haha A lot depends on which day the bands are performing, too. It's happened countless times (in A, AA and AAA) where had a band performed on the other prelims day and scored the same as they did on their actual performance day, they would have advanced to semis. You could be 4th place overall in a class over both days and not advance. That said, I think all of these AA bands have a fair shot at advancement, whether by score, class placement or a lucky scheduling block. Easley H.S., SC Greenfield-Central H.S., IN Jenison H.S., MI Lake Hamilton H.S., AR Marian Catholic H.S., IL Miamisburg H.S., OH Morton H.S., IL (they are going to be GOOOOOD this year having seen some videos) Norwin H.S., PA I feel kinda bad excluding Greendale from the list, as they do try so hard and have often been very close, but with the additions of Easley and Norwin, I just don’t see them sliding in, unless 7 of these 8 groups all perform on the same panel.
