Will the same judges, judge all of the semi final bands? Completely new slate Understand there will be a new combination of judges for semifinals, but will this be a one panel or two panel for all 39 bands?

I don't think James Madison is only a class rep (yes, I understand they are performing in the class rep slots). I could find only 9 Panel 1 bands that are in the Top 22 slots. They are:
Ayala H.S., CA Union H.S., OK Homestead H.S., IN Centerville H.S., OH Rockford H.S., MI Leander H.S., TX The Woodlands H.S., TX Vandegrift H.S., TX Hebron H.S., TX
Did they change how they slot Semifinalists?

It’s weird that Panther Creek lost to James Madison by several points at BOA Virginia and now Panther Creek is the one in the next 8 not Madison. Guess that’s how it goes.

This is correct. They put the top 22 overall in those spots, not necessarily both top 11s.

I feel bad they also had to kick off issma state finals, can’t catch a break with these first time performances And on the chance if they make finals, I wonder who drew #1? crazy enough I heard fishers also drew #1 but I’m not sure if that’s true I saw it online somewhere

This is correct. They put the top 22 overall in those spots, not necessarily both top 11s. They do take the top 11 from both panels. Brownsburg and Miamisburg are the other 2 in the top 11 from panel 1. Then it worked out evenly this year, but that isn’t necessarily the case every year.

They do take the top 11 from both panels. Brownsburg and Miamisburg are the other 2 in the top 11 from panel 1. Then it worked out evenly this year, but that isn’t necessarily the case every year. I'm pretty sure they take the top 11 from both panels and the next 8 highest regardless of panel for a total of 30 bands. The reason there are 38 this year is because they make sure there are at least 4 bands from each of the four classes.

I see 3 AAA groups as class representatives out of 4. That means the 4th group qualified for semis based on score, which means they won their class in prelims. Who is that for AAA? Leander is the only AAA band in the top 30. The class awards are based on semifinals, not prelims.

But the 5-26 spots in the schedule in the top 30 are the top 22 overall. marching.musicforall.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2019/05/2019-BOA-Rulebook.pdf Note the nuance in the advancement procedures on page 9 and the scheduling procedures on the top of page 10.

Clarification:
The top 11 scoring bands from each panel advance to semifinals, then the next 8 highest scoring overall (regardless of panel) advance as well. Once that 30 is determined, the top 2 bands in each class from each panel (if not already included) get advanced.
For performance slots, each of the following groups are placed in order as determined by a random draw: -Those bands advancing for class representation -The top 22 bands overall (regardless of panel) -the bands finishing 23-30 overall (regardless of panel)
The first X (in this case, 8) bands on the schedule are the class advancers. The top 22 perform in the middle of the semifinalists who qualified by score. The 23-30 group is split into two sets of 4, half at the beginning and half at the end.

17 from Panel 1 21 from Panel 2 The top 30 breakdown is 13 from Panel 1 and 17 from Panel 2. The 6/2 split for the next 8 was not uncommon when we had Thursday/Friday setup and it continues with the Panel 1/Panel 2 setup. Also not overly surprising to me based on the bands assigned to each panel.

I thought Miamisburg was AAA And I thought Lake Hamilton was AAA. Doesn’t make sense for Greenfield Central to be added as a class rep if there are already 5 AA bands. ?

I thought Miamisburg was AAA And I thought Lake Hamilton was AAA. Doesn’t make sense for Greenfield Central to be added as a class rep if there are already 5 AA bands. ? Four of the AA bands were from Panel 2. The requirement is for at least two per class per panel. Greenfield Central was the 2nd highest scoring AA band on Panel 1.

I thought Miamisburg was AAA They can't be AAA because Milford and Chattahoochee are both AAA and advanced as class qualifiers from that panel.

Leander is the only AAA band in the top 30. The class awards are based on semifinals, not prelims. Right, I’m aware of that. I just meant that the group was obviously the highest placing group of their class. If they were the only one to qualify via score, their odds of sweeping in semis would be really high. Of course, all of this is meaningless knowledge, now that I learned that the group was Leander. Kinda a no-brainer at that point

So question... it is possible for Miamisburg to have had a lower score than say Panther Creek? Since they were on separate panels
