And it's looking to really come back with a bang! As long as someone other than Covid "claims" Kevin. 🤣

I’m determined to get more familiar with the Ohio (and Indiana) bands! Beavercreek H.S., OH Bellbrook H.S., OH Campbell County H.S., KY Carmel H.S., IN Carroll H.S., IN Centerville H.S., OH Fairborn H.S., OH Fairfield H.S., OH Franklin Central H.S., IN Greenfield-Central H.S., IN Kettering Fairmont H.S., OH Lake Central H.S., IN Miamisburg H.S., OH Newark H.S., OH Noblesville H.S., IN Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI Woodford County H.S., KY

Beavercreek H.S., OH Bellbrook H.S., OH Campbell County H.S., KY Carmel H.S., IN Carroll H.S., IN Centerville H.S., OH Fairborn H.S., OH Fairfield H.S., OH Franklin Central H.S., IN Greenfield-Central H.S., IN Kettering Fairmont H.S., OH Lake Central H.S., IN Miamisburg H.S., OH Newark H.S., OH Noblesville H.S., IN Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI Woodford County H.S., KY It’s a fairly strong lineup overall. Some short and sweet descriptions based on what I know about most of these groups: Beavercreek — Huge. Loud. Very fun, upbeat show design. Consistent regional finalist. Bellbrook — Excellent smaller band. Frequent Grand Nats attendee, have made semis many times as a class qualifier. Regular regional class champion & medalist. Campbell County — Also a frequent Grand Nats attendee, most recently placing 35th overall in 2019, narrowly missing semis. Carroll — Stellar band program, frequent regional finalist. I believe they’ve made Indy super regional finals before? Centerville — I think most of us know about them! Very storied jazz program, frequent Grand Nats finalist. Shows are always jazz-based and super crowd-pleasing! Franklin Central — Very solid program from what I remember seeing of them, not sure about their history. Greenfield-Central — I believe Michael Gaines designs for them. Frequent Grand Nats semi-finalist as a class qualifier. Kettering Fairmont — Another solid program that I believe is on the up and up. So far the only AAA band in attendance at this regional (the rest being AA and AAAA; no A). Lake Central — Unfortunately not what they once were and have lost significant numbers even before COVID, but still a very, very good program. Another frequent Grand Nats semi-finalist by top 30, and I believe they’ve made finals quite a few times. Miamisburg — One of the premier Ohio programs. Always teetering between AA and AAA, they are a very frequent regional finalist and Grand Nats semi-finalist, both on score and class qualification. Reeths-Puffer — Their previous director was the legendary Chuck Hodson. One of the top groups in Michigan. It’s always fun to watch them and Jenison battle it out when they compete together. It’s been a few years, but they used to advance to Grand Nats semis quite often.

Based on the speculative lineups, which would be the Top 5 strongest Regionals? Not including Super Regionals, I'd say: Texas. (Most specifically Austin, Conroe, Dallas, Katy & Waco)

Based on the speculative lineups, which would be the Top 5 strongest Regionals? The better question would be which five regionals outside of Texas are the strongest. In that case, I would say (only taking into consideration CONFIRMED bands): Dayton Jacksonville Johnson City Mid-Atlantic St. George Lynchburg would probably have been on this list had it not been cancelled.

Bellbrook also has 8 class championships at GN and is a former finalist And of course Centerville has that GN championship from back in the 90s... Fairborn is also a former semifinalist, though that was MANY years ago Fairfield is in Cincinnati in the same OMEA district as Mason and the Lakotas, historically 4 of the top 5-or-6 concert programs in the state (Grove City and Centerville in particularly strong years). Haven't had a ton of success outside, but they've been improving in that regard in recent years.

It’s been a few years, but they used to advance to Grand Nats semis quite often. Bellbrook is a seven-time Class A Grand National Champion (94, 95, 98, 99, 00, 01, 13) and a one-time Class AA Grand National Champion (04). In 2000, Bellbrook qualified for Finals (as Class A!) and finished 11th, one spot ahead of... Broken Arrow. Astonishingly, Lake Central never made Grand National finals. They finished agonizingly close more times than I can count. I think they had a string of four or five CONSECUTIVE years where they finished 13th-15th in GN Semifinals every year. As mentioned, Miamisburg is one of Ohio's top programs. They finished an impressive 22nd in BOA GN Semifinals in 2019. Under Chuck Hodson, Reeths-Puffer was the 1999 Class AA Grand National Champion and made Finals. Along with Jenison (BOA GN Finalist in 92 and 94) and the now non-competitive Mona Shores, western Michigan has a long history of producing absolutely fantastic small-school marching bands.

Dayton is definitely going to be an exciting show to watch especially finals top to bottom. I'm going to make a post soon for a way too early predictions but I'll give a taste here. I expect, at least for now, finals to look something like this.
Top 5 Finals Carmel, IN (think this is clear cut winner) Centerville, OH (always a strong competitor) Kettering Fairmont, OH (another strong program but seem to peak early) Carroll, IN (generally a contender for Indiana state finals in the highest class and continues to get stronger each year) Miamisburg, OH (they are really learning their identity and will keep growing as an Ohio power)
Bottom 5 Finals Reeths Puffer, MI (they took a dip in 19 sure to a director change I believe. Let's see if they are back on course) Campbell County, KY (this group is always full of surprises in just how much better they are than you might think) Beaverscreek, OH (a band that knows how to go out and have fun with tons of energy) Greenfield-Central, IN (a tough contender in Indiana's second highest class that's been awake to make semi Finals more regular recently) Franklin Central, IN (a smaller band in Indiana's highest class but knows how to put on unique shows)

Otherwise I’d say this is right on the money!
