LeanderMomma hasn't responded because seeing that list caused her heart to stop. If I ever caused LeanderMomma to have a heart attack, that would be my last day on Hornrank It would probably be hers too

Is it a stretch to say Cy-Fair’s woodwind program is top five in the country? I mean, consistently these kids prove time and time again they can PLAY and I honestly believe if they make it in this year, they’ll be thanking the MPI judge. I’d say the only other bands that match that level of power in marching band would be Mason, maybe Carmel, and obviously three from Dallas.
I don’t know much about their concert band, but that’s when things get messy — it’s always amazed me how some programs can make it to Midwest/NCF frequently yet don’t play like it on the field in comparison to other programs.

Looking forward to an unbelievably stacked SA event again, as always!! I just hope for some surprises even with all the big hitters/frequent finalists all shining this year!

Absolutely disrespectful. Consider my pearls clutched.

I’d just be over the moon if the Top 100 bands would meet yearly under the same roof (centralized venue). Caveat: If it needs to be a BOA event then I would request Gaines, Cartwright - equal level talents) design the same level show for all bands competing. Music and Visual demand intermediate to High. Guard exercises Intermediate to High. Probably not ever gonna happen but that is my wonky way to ever have a True snapshot of program ranks. A true GN Championship IMO.

If Carmel, Broken Arrow and Avon traveled to San Antonio, would this become the de-facto Grand Nationals? Yes, but there's no real incentive for them to do that (unfortunately). They'd be spending more money and traveling farther and longer just to potentially not medal. The prestige of Grand Nationals plus all of the respective records/streaks they're maintaining by going every year (or nearly every year in Broken Arrow's case), they can't really be bothered to try their hand down here. It's a shame, but that's the situation as I see it.

Had they stayed to complete at UIL the following week they would maybe be mid bubble. Presently it would be less difficult for them to final at SA BOA but who knows. I still see them mid to lower pack at BOA SA. I would never see them Top 10 at a Texas 6a-11a list! LOL. Carmel is huuugggeee!

I think Carmel will eventually make the trip down. Even though they’re the closest, I think Broken Arrow will be last. They often have OBA or All State Jazz as a conflict, and the appetite to venture seems minimal even without those conflicts.

I believe all of the big out-of-state big hitters will make the trip down at some point! It’s gonna be a long while for that to come about just due to how infrequent it is that it happens. I’m sure it’ll be exciting though each time one group makes the trip!

If Carmel, Broken Arrow and Avon traveled to San Antonio, would this become the de-facto Grand Nationals? Be careful of what you might be starting with this comment… my reverse-uno card of this scenario is what if we get a ridiculous aligning of the stars of 8, 10, 12 SA finalist level bands attending Grand Nats in the same year, be it all of both LISD’s that have made the trip and the usuals of SA and Houston in some combination. The game just changes and it would be unreal to me personally👀 Also yes to the original question when it comes to the quality of competition and the reality of having the three *probable* medalist staples of Grand Nats, the moniker of “ABC” exists for a reason, combining that with the usual output of a BOA San Antonio, it’s the most stacked, level of difficulty contest by default. For those that disagree that it can’t really be a de-facto grand Nats, i do see y’all’s points. you definitely would want a Grand Nationals event to be more “national”, more varied and diverse groups from all over the country, and not just Texas, 2 from Indiana and one OK rep. So I do get that haha. You can pencil in a 4A champ, potentially a 3A champ from this hypothetical contest, but definitely not a 2A or 1A champ. As we all know there’s competition in those categories sorely missing if you omit the whole country and leave it only be to where the Texas bands present could win it. Boom, both sides are happy that I argued their side haha😊😊

If Carmel, Broken Arrow and Avon traveled to San Antonio, would this become the de-facto Grand Nationals? While this will not happen, it is time to rotate Grand Nationals. It won't happen because Indianapolis makes this type of event easy to execute (and apparently you need 1,000 Ohio bands to fill out prelims), but it should. I was long an opponent to this model and I'm not sure hosting in Texas is a good idea at all, but it should begin to rotate every 2-3 years.

I was long an opponent to this model and I'm not sure hosting in Texas is a good idea at all, but it should begin to rotate every 2-3 years. Last year we were talking about venues that could handle Grand Nats and Indy does seem to have a good set-up with Lucas Field attached to the Convention Center (sufficient practice areas) and a few hotels too. I can't think of a another location outside of Vegas that could pull it off (I never want to experience what 10k teenagers in Vegas would be like). Of course, everything wouldn't have to be attached if it wasn't cold outside (my opinion of cold is anything under 60). :>)
It's a tough schedule for the Texas bands. I know Marcus went all in last year and did SA Super Regional (Fri-Sat) followed by UIL State (Mon-Tue) followed by Grand Nats (Thur-Sat). That's a brutal 9 days on the road. I thought State and Grand Nats was rough. I don't know how they survived that one.

Watching all of these competitions this year made me realize that this year is probably going to be the best/closest San Antonio in a long long long time if not ever. I mean this in the sense that I could see 5-7 different bands having a really good shot at medaling. Everyone is so close this year. Some years it's kind of a given that a specific show will place a certain place even if they don't have a perfect run (ex: Vandegrift 2021, everyone knew they would medal even if they didn't have the perfect run because their show content was so much stronger than a lot of others). This year everyone is so good that I think that you have to have a perfect run if you want to place high. I could see bands shooting up not just 1 or 2 places in finals, but 3 or 4 places if they have a great run. San Antonio will be amazing. (I know this isn't the case for every year, but this year feels special in that way.)

I’m so excited to return to the Alamodome! Looking at the two supers we just had…I expect lots of shenanigans. In a good way! Mostly. I don’t have stock in any of these bands, so I don’t have to pack my tin foil.

I counted how many bands I thought would be good bets to make GN semifinals if they came up to Indianapolis.
