I board my plane to Austin in a few hours. I’m excited to be back in San Antonio after four years! I suppose I have to take back my implication that I’ll be an unbiased observer - my boyfriend is a VRHS band alum. But otherwise, I’m excited to cheer for everyone and bite my nails at no one.
For those of you that have seen some of these bands already, do you have any particular “big moments” that you suggest I look out for? I’ll be taking pictures for GEM the whole weekend. I’ve held off watching most of the shows until I get to see them live. I want to make sure I capture those moments! I’ll see most of the bands I saw at Indy again at GN, but this will be the one time I’ll see a lot of these.

I am not sure there is one moment where you are like wow but I found the entire show kept me very engaged. Have fun!!! My daughter is in Leander and will be there Friday night. I like Leander's show, but my favorite is still Round Rock's.

During Round Rock's ballad the flag work the guard does around the earth is a really nice picture taking moment.

One day out so let's take a look at the weather again. It looks like there is some good news and bad news. Good news first. It looks like San Antonio won't be affected as much as other areas. Not out of the clear by any means but definitely not in the Danger Zone for tomorrow. Now the bad news. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) was issued yesterday after my last post and has been expanded this morning to include Dallas/Fort Worth and Waco. The most concerning aspect is the 10% risk of tornadoes for this area, with Dallas/Fort Worth in a 10% hatch risk of a significant tornado (EF2 or stronger). While I don't think the risk will go any higher, I wouldn't be surprised if the SPC upgrades the risk for tomorrow to a Moderate Risk (Level 4 out of 5). Here is the link to the SPC's outlook for tomorrow if you would like to read it: www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.htmlAnyone traveling tomorrow, please be safe. Bumping this up due to new information from the SPC. The Enhanced Risk has once again expanded and now includes Austin. Both Austin & Waco are now included in the 10% hatched risk of a significant Tornado. Again I reiterate, for anyone traveling tomorrow, especially on I-35, please be careful.

At the end of The Woodlands woodwind feature there is a guard member to guard member rifle toss over the heads of most of the guard covering 10-15 yards. Roughly from 45 to 45.

Cedar Ridge's drum break build up and Rebel Yell brass impact have some very picturesque moments, especially with the different sections swapping out on the props, with really vibrant coloring. Vandegrifts first impact with the light up props (which I hope show up well in the Alamodome). A lot of Reagan's guard moments are killer, with the reverse masks. Cedar Park has an awesome ballad hit with a sea of swing flags that seems perfect for some action shots. CTJ's pre-show with their tall pole things and the associated choreo is pretty neat as well! There's more, but I just thought I'd get these ones written down.

I’ll see most of the bands I saw at Indy again at GN, but this will be the one time I’ll see a lot of these. Coppell’s first opening hit of the Beethoven 7th💥💥their very pretty “Your Song” ballad and the very creative reprises that you’ll hear in the closer, definitely a good spot to take some fun shots of the pit! They have a great show this year! Kayaks and typewriters galore, always love some low brass features which they have at various points, they feature a lot of sections to be fair! The beginning of CTJ’s ballad and the build up to the final formation is very awesome, very much a big moment for their show! FloMo, you can easily try to capture the several comic panels that come out during their show all over the place, some stay open a bit longer than others so make sure to keep your eyes open! The villains of the story that appear in the “ballad” haha something to look out for! Flo Mo often has big, blocky full ensemble moments so there’s plenty of opportunity to capture the whole band and their extravagant uniforms haha Hebron, capturing all of their soloists are a must!! They have a fun little sea shanty vibe after their opening hit and material, fitting for their show for sure! Probably their most wacky bit of choreography that they do compared to their more subtle ensemble ripples and body movements! Any time there are brass pods clumped together, the big exciting final bit of the ballad and many other moments you could say are big in this show!

Wishing everyone attending and giving all of us updates on all the craziness about to happen down there safe travels and a great time at the event! Haven’t been back to the Alamodome for a few years now, but I definitely am looking to come back next year and enjoy the event again for myself!☺️

When you think you're an hour late for the first band, but realize you were looking at the Saturday schedule instead of the Friday schedule:

Can anyone there let me know if they accept apple pay at concessions? We perform tomorrow and some of our band members were wanting to know. Thanks in advance.

Waller has withdrawn from the competition. Pflugerville will now perform in what was Waller’s slot at 2:15.

Genuine PSA from the bottom of my heart. If you find yourself in San Antonio, after the contest has ended, late at night and you're looking for something to eat with your family? Do NOT go to the Denny's near the Alamodome. It is a nightmare on earth. I went there last year and my girlfriend and I didn't get our food for two hours, and apparently every bus driver in the area had decided to show up and have the loudest possible conversation, about the most vile stuff possible. They also somehow managed to get three rounds of food before anyone else in our area got anything lmao I don't think I've seen true defeat in a face until we hit the second hour of waiting for food, and the family behind us (which I believe was from the Woodlands, they were very patient and understanding) literally started to fall asleep. That doesn't even begin to talk about the homeless people that would wander into the store and have to be escorted out regularly. So please, if you're hungry late after BOA, just eat somewhere else. Yard House maybe? It's more pricey but it's better than that damn Denny's, that's for sure. Heck, even a McDonald's would beat that Denny's. I completely agree! We have eaten there many times over the years but it has now descended into the depths of Mordor. Last summer when we were in town for the DCI competition we waited more than an hour and hadn’t even been seated yet. Needing access to the locked bathrooms we talked to the staff and were told they kept them locked because it was the only way they could stop all the heroin overdoses in there. That’s when we bailed out.
