Did Ld Bell slip all of your minds ? I would say Bell is firmly on the bubble. I can't see them on the top 5 on either panel, but they are 100% fighting for one of the last four

I just think with the history that bell has had they shouldn’t be one just to leave off the predictions. They’ve surprised me quite a bit this year and I won’t be surprised if they snatch a spot this weekend, they’ll have to have a darn good run since they had an unlucky draw time.

I looked ahead at the weather for Friday and all I can say is that I hope we don't have another repeat of 2015. Somewhere, some poor MFA staffer just got a chill down their spine.

Somewhere, some poor MFA staffer just got a chill down their spine. What happened in 2015? 🥺😢 The Great Flood of 2015. It was worse than the Great Band Flu of ‘22 (tho that could still change unfortunately). Long story, but there were severe floods, tornadoes, busses trapped, bands seeking shelter, and schools like Leander who didn’t even get to compete with one of their best shows to date (Choral Works). It was a very rough year. 😔

It's going to be interesting. Currently the SPC in Norman, OK has only issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5 risk) for much of Central and Eastern Texas for Friday which includes almost all major metro areas in the state (DFW, Austin, Waco, San Antonio, & Houston). There is a chance that this risk might get upgraded tomorrow to an enhanced risk (a Level 3 out of 5 risk). All severe hazards are possible but the main concerns are going to be damaging straight line winds and a few tornadoes. I should note that the SPC has been looking at the system for quite awhile now, even issuing an extremely rare Day 7 severe outlook last Saturday. I'm going to attach the SPC's outlook for Friday here if any of you want to look for yourselves. FWIW, at least Saturday looks to be pleasant. It depends on the severity of the storms. I was heading to SA in 2015 and got caught in the storm. The rain and wind were so bad I thought I was in a tornado. Cars submerged under water, 18 wheelers flipped over. It was very scary. I think it will be fine.

I gotta say, being a bubble band makes things so much more exiting when you are in the stands. The mystery of if you make finals or not makes the whole competition a lot better, especially if you do make it

Even now I'm stressed hoping my brother and friends will make finals again!

I remember being so anxious I felt like I was gonna throw up during finalist announcements during my time in band.

Caught a sneaky video of Hebron from UIL area. I think this is their show to lose, might even be better than last year which after last year I thought would be impossible. Anyways, prediction time
1. Hebron (music, visual, GE) 2. Flower Mound 3. Vista Ridge 4. Vandegrift 5. Cedar Ridge 6. CTJ 7. Reagan 8. Cedar Park 9. The Woodlands 10. Marcus 11. Coppell 12. Round Rock 13. Leander 14. Rouse
I really like VR, they have a really aggressive sound this year, more so than years past, and it makes brass player me very happy. That’s definitely not the only reason I have them so high but we all know louder obviously = better (joke). Not really sure about Flower Mound, but I think it’s more likely they medal rather than place below the top 5. Cedar Park is a big wildcard to me, feeling like they could easily pass up a few groups ahead of them

Good god this contest is crazy. 1. Hebron (sweep) 2. Vandegrift 3. Ronald Reagan 4. Flower Mound 5. Cedar Ridge 6. Claudia Taylor Johnson 7. Vista Ridge 8. Marcus 9. Coppell 10. Cedar Park 11. The Woodlands 12. Round Rock 13. Westlake 14. Cy-Fair Explanations and other notesHebron (live on 10/8) - 👀 Vandegrift (early season videos) - I LOVE MELLOS and woodwinds Ronald Reagan (TMC video and results) - debated on whether to put Flower Mound higher. Tiebreaker was TMC results. Flower Mound (live on 10/8) - they're good! Cedar Ridge CTJ (early season videos) - placed under Cedar Ridge based on past results Vista Ridge (early season videos) - always a bit of an underdog. Placed low due to 1+ point gap from Reagan at TMC. Marcus (live on 10/8) - visually clean and wonderful sounds, but I would have expected more from them based on their size. Coppell (live on 10/8) - also good. They weren't Lewisville trio level clean in both visuals and music, but still very impressive. Cedar Park (live on 10/29+various videos) - a whole new tier from last year. Some very nitpicky sound issues (trombone balance/stickouts) and visual dirt. The Woodlands (Conroe video) - director change Still chugging strongly though. Round Rock Westlake (direct competition on 10/15) - No idea where to put, largely based on rankings. Cy-Fair - interesting (largely based on rankings) Schools that didn't make itMG Johnson - they've already scheduled USBands San Antonio, almost as if they don't believe in themselves. Also a 1.6 gap with Cedar Park at Waco. Rouse - Waco finals visual score was... interesting. Leander - 😢 tough year Pearland - watched Area finals video, not quite convinced. Maybe at state? Keller - having a rough season? Hopefully we'll see them at state finals, loved last year's show. Seven Lakes, Waxahachie, Timber Creek - getting closer. Maybe in a few years? Hendrickson - get well soon, missed you guys at Waco <3

One day out so let's take a look at the weather again. It looks like there is some good news and bad news. Good news first. It looks like San Antonio won't be affected as much as other areas. Not out of the clear by any means but definitely not in the Danger Zone for tomorrow. Now the bad news. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) was issued yesterday after my last post and has been expanded this morning to include Dallas/Fort Worth and Waco. The most concerning aspect is the 10% risk of tornadoes for this area, with Dallas/Fort Worth in a 10% hatch risk of a significant tornado (EF2 or stronger). While I don't think the risk will go any higher, I wouldn't be surprised if the SPC upgrades the risk for tomorrow to a Moderate Risk (Level 4 out of 5). Here is the link to the SPC's outlook for tomorrow if you would like to read it: www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.htmlAnyone traveling tomorrow, please be safe.

Genuine PSA from the bottom of my heart. If you find yourself in San Antonio, after the contest has ended, late at night and you're looking for something to eat with your family?
Do NOT go to the Denny's near the Alamodome.
It is a nightmare on earth. I went there last year and my girlfriend and I didn't get our food for two hours, and apparently every bus driver in the area had decided to show up and have the loudest possible conversation, about the most vile stuff possible. They also somehow managed to get three rounds of food before anyone else in our area got anything lmao
I don't think I've seen true defeat in a face until we hit the second hour of waiting for food, and the family behind us (which I believe was from the Woodlands, they were very patient and understanding) literally started to fall asleep.
That doesn't even begin to talk about the homeless people that would wander into the store and have to be escorted out regularly.
So please, if you're hungry late after BOA, just eat somewhere else. Yard House maybe? It's more pricey but it's better than that damn Denny's, that's for sure. Heck, even a McDonald's would beat that Denny's.
