Watching all of these competitions this year made me realize that this year is probably going to be the best/closest San Antonio in a long long long time if not ever. I mean this in the sense that I could see 5-7 different bands having a really good shot at medaling. Everyone is so close this year. Some years it's kind of a given that a specific show will place a certain place even if they don't have a perfect run (ex: Vandegrift 2021, everyone knew they would medal even if they didn't have the perfect run because their show content was so much stronger than a lot of others). This year everyone is so good that I think that you have to have a perfect run if you want to place high. I could see bands shooting up not just 1 or 2 places in finals, but 3 or 4 places if they have a great run. San Antonio will be amazing. (I know this isn't the case for every year, but this year feels special in that way.) I'm thinking the same thing. It's already hard enough predict this competition. This year looks like it will be near impossible

I’m so excited to return to the Alamodome! Looking at the two supers we just had…I expect lots of shenanigans. In a good way! Mostly. I don’t have stock in any of these bands, so I don’t have to pack my tin foil. As a neutral last year, I made a game out of it. I counted how many bands I thought would be good bets to make GN semifinals if they came up to Indianapolis. I’d have to look over the list for this year to make my opinion, an approximate guess, haha. I’m probably leaning close to 35-40 with this bunch, maybe more, maybe a bit less, but i don’t remember the list off the top of my head

As for my third medalist…🤷♂️ I have literally no way to narrow it down between 4-6 bands that could be that, or even higher. I’ll make my predictions(and my third medalist choice) later this week. I cannot do so rn😂

That sounds about right. I feel like the number will be a bit higher with this bunch. A few more excellent DFW bands sprinkled in, starting off with one of the big boys in Flower Mound returning to the event. If we had Prosper and Wakeland here there would have two other semis locks in there(they could’ve been #83 and #84 to max out this SR, imagine👀)Strong newcomers in Rock Hill, Highland Park, a few others I’m sure I’m missing. LD Bell returning to the event after their St. Louis trip this year(along with Lake Travis, they both opted into doing both SA and St. Louis this year, that’s awesome) Coppell, Waxahachie, and all the Keller schools(hilarious that they got put in the same grouping) looking as strong as ever. SA and Austin are more reliable in bringing all their heavy hitters to the event with it not being too much of an undertaking, DFW being a bit further away means not everyone opts in to taking the trip, but I’m glad there’s so many that decided to this year! It’s gonna be a great contest filled with so many great bands. I’d stick with my 35-40 semis-caliber bands prediction now that I’ve taken a better look at the list👀

I was going to reply the same, but I think they probably just mean that there isn’t as clear cut of a TOP DOG that’s gonna dominate. Sometimes we’ve gotten near 1 1/2, 2 point gaps between first and 2nd. The upcoming and exploding Flo Mo winning back-to-back 2015/2016 with 2016 being especially DOMINANT. The Marcus of old, 2014 CTJ. Keep in mind though this is all 2016 and prior. The last 4 editions of the SASR have been UBER competitive at the top and all throughout, I can’t recall one in my memory of being around it as a HS kid and beyond that being “dissapointing” or “less than exciting” to me personally haha

Who would even begin to express what might happen at this Super regional? It will be the most competitive BOA event of 2022!
I presently only have 2 locks at medals and I’m sure I’ll be wrong!
I can see a solid argument for a Hebron (M/V/GE) sweep by shear power??!!! 6a State Champs for sure!
Vandy coming in Hot! Leveled up 2019 CR is peaking amazingly and probably will lead the North Austin charge at the Alamodome! Flower Mound iOS overall compete show depth and demand in USA right now IMO Marcus seriously best music in BOA and Texas (only matched by Hebron) Saw Reagan and CTJ recently and no words! Everyone will be surprised.
I know 2 days later 6a Top ten ranks will differ! The beauty of objectively ranking the marching arts outside BOA metrics! It will be superb!
I know I missed so so so many other TX dominant programs and I apologize but this year is going to be unbelievable and just spectacular despite a few possible forum BOA Ideologue opinions. .

That’s all that needs to be said really!

I'm officially Waxahachie super fan. They're making finals. I’ve been wanting to make this same opinion known for a while now, I believe they’re capable of it, most definitely. They’re solidly a bubble band. If we’re going by top 5 panel 1/2, last 4, inner bubble(3-5 groups) outer bubble(5-7) they are inner bubble to me, potentially last 4👀 let me clarify haha

So hard to judge the top 14 of 83 bands over 2 days and 2 panels with the level of competition that will be in San Antonio. Hopefully if it keeps growing (i.e. more bands keep going) then they will consider the semi-final option!

As much as I’m sure many would love a semi-finals event at San Antonio (and possibly the other Supers), it just isn’t feasible unless it is expanded into a three-day event like Grand Nationals. And I just don’t see that happening. If Supers did have a semis round, then what would make Grand Nationals different from any other BOA contest? Would it just be considered Indy Super #2?

I get that, but at the same time then they should probably limit the # of bands who can enter. To be real, the only thing that makes GN any different is the name. Super regionals are starting to catch up in terms of quality of competition. 3 day competitions are hard for everyone (I know as a parent volunteer) but I also think when you have so many bands, aside from the top 5 the rest is just a luck of the draw and panel. Either way, it will be a great weekend in SA. I also am selfish that I'd love to be able to watch the top 24 bands back to back to really see how they stack up.
