The designer or company should say “I am so sorry, but this show is currently unavailable in your location. May I interest you in one of our other options?” I hardly think it’s this big of a deal. If a school wants their students performing a specific packet or show then let them to do so. It’s all for fun after all, no need to first-come-first-serve gatekeep a fun show design. It’s all in good fun, and these bands are trying as hard as they can as they are their directors deserve the right to choose a program they think fits. yea, this is such a non-issue. This is first and foremost an educational activity. If public perception is taking precedence over what's going to allow the students the most growth, then we've lost sight of the true purpose of all of this.

I can see both sides to this argument. I remember in 2019 when Leander and Lake Travis performed nearly identical ballads at the same contests. They were both lovely and very well done, but I felt like it took some of the specialness away from each band. It didn’t, of course, but that was my perspective at the time. It’s like showing up at a formal ball type event in the exact same gown another woman is wearing. 😁
But at the end of the day, no it doesn’t make any difference.

Duuuude... You ain't old school unless you remember the bizarreness of fall 1991 when for some reason [spoiler: the reason was SCV] every band in the country decided to play Fiddler on the Roof. I was at one show where, kid you not, like 13 out of the 20 groups there played basically the same arrangement. My friends and I audibly groaned the 10th time we saw a group inching towards the Bottle Dance...
Only thing close was fall 1997 when roughly 1/4 the bands in the country ripped off A Defiant Heart. Love me some Shostakovich, but after the 6th version of "Intro the 4th Ballet Suite" you've heard in one day...

Avon -- ...if only it were a dream Firestone -- A Hero Within New Philadelphia -- "I Believe" [n.b., show title as listed in tonight's program includes quotation marks] Norton -- To Wish Upon

Carmel H.S., IN — “Vitruvian” Barber’s First Symphony is probably my favorite classical piece. I am soooooo excited to see Carmel’s take on this. Looking forward to the oboe solo, I'm guessing they will probably do it as a flute solo.

I'll be beyond shocked if you're correct.

So far we have:
Homestead (CA): “There’s No Place Like Home” Rosemount: “The Rose” Camdenton (aka Pride of the Lake): “Pirates of the Lake” West Shore School: “Go West”
Shall the trend continue? I think it’s pretty punny.

Century H.S., Hillsboro, OR: "FX" Liberty H.S., Hillsboro, OR: "The Signal" Kelso H.S., Kelso, WA: "Future Nostalgia"
Edit: If you've been following my posts about the PNW bands, yes, there are a LOT of high schools in the Hillsboro area. Unfortunately because there are so many high schools, that means the city population gets split, leading to smaller bands (ranging from 20-50 kids each). Century has always had been the biggest marching band in the Hillsboro area, marching roughly 140 this year. I think it's because their director has established a really strong elementary music education/recruitment process.

Some of those sound like unfortunate euphemisms.

I love stuff like this since you just know that no one has a nickname like this unless it evolved naturally out of the local culture a hundred years ago. Schools with names like this are usually small, usually organically connected to their community, not giant, consolidated monstrosities created in the 90s and Aughts for 'economies of scale' who always have soulless nicknames chosen by a committee to be maximally inoffensive--and for some reason I can't fathom, in Kentucky they always go with 'Mustangs.' Go Wooden Shoes! Never change!

No school mascot can be worse than Robstown Early College’s. I was going to one up you with a mascot from a town called Freeburg near O'Fallon, but upon looking up the mascot of Robstown Early College I must admit that you win. I don't know how that's allowed its honestly disgusting

Robstown is pretty crazy... now look up Pekin, IL until approximately 1980 or so when it was changed. Just nuts...

My jaw is on the floor. Every other school in Missouri is either the Tigers or the Indians… I almost have to respect the originality
