I did not catch prelims yesterday, I was taking in the early shows from the Mooresville competition, but I was able to catch finals and what a great showing it was from all of the bands. My thoughts from finals:
Very excited for the future of Apex Friendship, this program is heading in the right direction and with the great schools in their area, they are just adding to the strength of the Cary area schools.
Green Hope, Cary, Panther Creek and Green Level aren't going anywhere. While they may not be as strong as they were in the past you can tell that the talent in the students and staff are still in the area and it's amazing that one area is still producing these quality programs.
Fort Walton was very impressive and I'm so happy that they got a chance in finals, another growing program from Florida is always a good thing.
Bassett is still doing Bassett things, the little band that could, and they keep on doing it. Fun show, well designed and the kids perform so well.
Nation Ford, a big step up from what I saw at BandBEAT, through covid and a school split still having this caliber of production is awesome.
Cleveland, that show is going to be great come November. I'm sure they are disappointed that they didn't take this regional but they have a great production.
Walton and Harrison were as good as advertised in my opinion. No Harrison is not still at their GN finalist level they were several years ago, but they are still a great program and I really enjoyed their show.
Catawba Ridge, in my book they were clearly above the rest and I was shocked that they didn't sweep the caption awards in finals. I think I counted 40 brass players and somehow they make it sound like there are 80 on the field. The percussion program is next level and makes them stand out from any other program I've seen live this year, the guard production quality and staging are fantastic and whoever writes their drill (does anyone know?) did a great job working with that really cool stage they have. I think they are clearly in the conversation in the AA class at GN this year. Obviously not a class champion but I think they could surprise some people there.
