Other comments: Really enjoying Yukon's show so far! Glad to see they are using their momentum from last year. Also, I really enjoyed some of the shows from Moore yesterday! Southmoore did a great job and I am really excited to see how they do at St. Louis. I think they have really come a long way since last year. I also can tell Edmond Memorial did not like not making OBA finals last year, I was really impressed with them! Norman North was a surprise too, I thought they were doing pretty good for this early in the season. I wish we would be seeing them at OBA, but maybe they will go in the near future.

Has anyone seen the lineup for the Mustang competition on Oct 1? Nope. There’s still a good amount of time left before it though so we’ll have to see.

I was worried this might happen given there were only 3 bands in attendance last year. I guess other Tulsa area contests have just taken the spotlight in the last few years. Still glad to see Camdenton on this list! It will be fun to see them, Jenks, and even Southmoore. I am on the Southmoore hype train this year with them going to St. Louis and all!

Here is my recording of Piedmont’s show. Thanks! I unfortunately had to work tonight so I wasn't able to come out and see them. That is CLEAN for this time of year! Of course I may be a little biased, given that I used to march at Piedmont a few years back, but if they keep going like that, they'll definitely make a case for finals at Midland, and beyond that, a shot at another 5A championship!

Heck yeah Piedmont! With all of the recent director changes in the west OKC area, I was nervous how it would affect them. Glad to see they are doing so well!! I honestly thought Deer Creek had the Yukon contest in the bag. Also go Westmoore! I saw their show at MOM Fest and it was very enjoyable. OBA is going to be so fun this year, and I really can't wait until Piedmont moves to 6A to add more fuel to the competitive fire!

Coming off the heels of the first major contest weekend in Oklahoma, it is now time for my (probably very wrong) predictions for Mustang next week! This is historically a very competitive show for central OK, with some unexpected Tulsa players in the mix this year to make for a VERY interesting contest! Let me know your thoughts on these. Disclaimer- I haven't seen some of these shows yet, so some of these predictions are based off historical placements here.
1 - Edmond Santa Fe: the defending Mustang champs made a very impressive showing at Owasso on Saturday, beating out Union and Jenks for a medal, and they're clearly not slowing down anytime soon! If they nail two great runs, I see no reason why they shouldn't repeat here. 2 - Union: Though a weaker Union than we've seen in years past, what I've seen from them so far this year has them improved over last year. They'll be fighting for a spot at the top here without much difficulty in my opinion. 3 - Edmond Memorial: Edmond Memorial is hungry this year, y'all. Their not making OBA finals last year has lit a new fire inside of them and if they can knock out a couple good runs, they'll be in good running for a spot in the top three. 4 - Yukon: Another group greatly continuing their momentum from last year's success is Yukon. Even under new directorship, they look incredible for this time of year. Though we technically haven't seen them in a contest environment yet this year, you know they'll be coming into this one hot, especially with them shooting for St. Louis finals. Lay down two fantastic runs and Yukon could find themselves a medalist here. 5 - Deer Creek: They made a nice showing here last year, and I expect nothing less of them this year. With them heading to Nats this year they'll definitely be looking to make some noise here again. Their placing here in my opinion could be a glimpse into where they stand for OBA finals. 6 - Coweta: For the first time in several years, longtime rivals Piedmont and Coweta will face off against each other in a contest prior to OBA. Though Coweta has never competed here, they should still do pretty well here. Will they top Piedmont in their one scuffle against them before OBA? Well, in my opinion, that could go either way. Both groups just underwent director changes this year and with both groups looking to make a splash at their respective BOA regionals, it will be VERY close between these two. So close, in fact, that these two spots might as well be interchangeable. 7 - Piedmont: The defending 5A OBA champions and Yukon grand champs will not only be looking to cement themselves a top spot here among some VERY competitive 6As, but Coweta is here to give them some extra early season challenge as well. They do have the field experience here to potentially give them the upper hand, but both groups will clean and should lay down very nice shows here. Will Piedmont be able to pull off another win against their longtime rivals? Current statistics rule in their favor, but only time will tell. 8 - Stillwater: This group historically does very well here, but my having not seen anything from them yet this season has unfortunately clouded my vision, so they're here for now. Hopefully they can lay down two nice performances and prove me wrong. 9 - Edmond North: Another group that does pretty well here, but has unfortunately been overshadowed by the other two Edmond schools at this contest. I didn't really understand this show when I saw it at Moore, but it should be much more developed by this weekend, and like Stillwater, will hopefully prove me wrong in their placement. 10 - Westmoore: Westmoore is pretty improved from last year if you ask me, but they're more difficult to predict here as they seem to place all over the place here at this contest. They are coming off of second place at Yukon, but in my opinion they'll need to nail their performances here to place much higher than their competition here. 11 - Carl Albert: Haven't seen Carl Albert yet this year, but from what I've heard, they should be nicely in finals here. They tend to be a late bloomer as far as their competitive season goes, but with a really good finals run, they could potentially give Westmoore a run for their money here! 12 - Moore: Moore is also looking a good amount better than they did last year; I was very impressed with what I saw from them at their exhibition at MOMFest. If there is a finals cutoff here, though, I'm thinking they'll likely take that last spot. ---------------- 13 - Purcell: While Purcell will be looking to lay down a clean performance here in preparation for their OBA the following week, if there is a finals cutoff I think they'll be just on the outside looking in here. Nothing personal, I just think the others above them are too good to catch. If they do take all 15 to finals though, they'll be at the top of these smaller schools marching here. 14 - Washington: Same deal as Purcell, though they'll definitely be looking to overtake them here, especially with them duking it out AGAIN at their OBA the next week, and then going to Orlando two weeks after that. I'm thinking their longer season might lead to them just falling short as it'll still be early for them. 15 - Weatherford: Haven't seen this group, but judging by the results at Yukon, these guys might be the ones to take that unfortunate last spot. Hopefully, they prove me wrong!
Captions will more than likely be a tossup. What are y'all's thoughts on this?

I worked the Yukon contest all day yesterday and got to sit in the stands and watch finals. I saw a lot of prelims through the windows of my ivory tower (I was doing hospitality 😆) so I couldn’t hear very well until finals.
My observations: I really thought Westmoore or Deer Creek would take it. Piedmont’s show was insanely clean, but it was so simple. The theme was fabulous and it really worked for nostalgia and was executed extremely well but, in my opinion, it was the easiest show of the top 3, by far. Westmoore and DC sounded awesome. DC has great volume this year and the music is fun. It’s a fairly dynamic and fun to watch. Westmoore is also entertaining and performed pretty well, I love the first song from the Greatest Showman.
I do have Yukon’s exhibition performance, it’s finally a good recording because I was sitting up high. The show is complete, all 4 movements were performed last night. There are a few “story” elements that weren’t done last night because they aren’t ready yet, but they will add hopefully huge wow factor. If anyone wants to see it I’d be happy to share it, but I don’t want to turn it into the Yukon thread.

Really enjoyed that breakdown of the Mustang contest! I will be posting a set of predictions sometime this week as well, and I think it will look very similar to what you put. Very good logic!!
ALSO, I will never deny a marching band video. Bring on the Yukon!!!

Mustang Invitational Marching Competition 2022 Predictions:
*These are totally for fun, and I honestly struggled with making this list more than I thought I would. For example, I have Westmoore getting 9th, but I could absolutely see them getting around 4th place too. I think this will be a pretty tight competition, and I am very excited to see how it plays out on Saturday! Could go SO many different ways.
1. Edmond Santa Fe H.S., OK 2. Union H.S., OK 3. Edmond Memorial H.S., OK 4. Yukon H.S., OK 5. Deer Creek H.S., OK 6. Piedmont H.S., OK 7. Coweta H.S., OK 8. Stillwater H.S., OK 9. Westmoore H.S., OK 10. Edmond North H.S., OK 11. Moore H.S., OK 12. Carl Albert H.S., OK

Mustang Invitational Predictions;
I have included the amount of points that I predict each band will have above the 12 place finalist. I have taken point gaps from previous competitions into account, as well as some educated guessing and YouTube watching. Thinking this way changed my opinion on where I originally thought these bands would stack up!
1. Edmond Santa Fe - 15.0 2. Union - 13.2 3. Yukon - 12.1 4. Edmond Memorial - 9.7 5. Westmoore - 9.0 6. Deer Creek - 8.8 7. Piedmont - 7.8 8. Stillwater - 7.4 9. Coweta - 6.5 10. Edmond North - 5.2 11. Moore - .8 12. Carl Albert - 0

Posted this on OK-BC, but it's still dead over there, and I don't expect to ever get a reply, so I might as well post it here.
As more Oklahoma bands become prominent on the national scale, the OBA contests get increasingly competitive, and the idea of an Oklahoma "Fab 5" (BA, Union, Owasso, Jenks, and Bixby) seems to be more irrelevant. Mustang, Choctaw, Yukon, Edmond Santa Fe, and Southmoore to name a few have proven themselves to be worthy of conversation on the 6A level, while Piedmont, Coweta, Collinsville, Tahlequah, Carl Albert, and a few other 4A/5A schools are also making a name for themselves. There will undoubtably be shifting in the rankings throughout the year, and I couldn't be more excited. Here are my thoughts after watching some performances and seeing the results from last weekend:
I'm using these 19 groups for now, because they are the clear frontrunners at this point. I know 19 seems like a weird number, but I don't see a band like PC North, Norman North, or Carl Albert as being close enough to these groups to be able to rank. That will undoubtably change as the season progresses though.
Current Rankings (With Tiers):
1. BA BA is coming off of a historic season, and looking to keep the BOA GN Champion title in Oklahoma, so of course their show will be good and dominate as always. I haven't seen Mustang's show yet, but they are the only ones that could come close to dethroning them this year, and even that is a very slim chance.
---------------------
2. Mustang Of these three, Mustang is the front runner for sure, but having not seen their show, they are here as a placeholder based off of past rankings. I could totally see 3. Owasso Owasso ahead of them, and possibly even Bixby. I have seen Owasso's show, and I think that if they could have competed this past weekend, they would have beat 4. Bixby Bixby and won a couple of captions. It's hard to say since they weren't judged. Bixby is looking fantastic this year, and I am excited to see the rest of their show and how it all comes together, but Bixby has always been a good early season band. If they can time their peak right at finals night OBA, I could see them medaling. -------------------------
5. Edmond Santa Fe WOW EDSF sounded good at Owasso. Their visual wasn't too bad either for this point in the season. Jenks was much dirtier than usual, but I expect as they clean,
6. Jenks they will become the Jenks that we have seen the past few years. I'm not quite sold on their show, but by end of the season, I expect them to sound like a GN finals bubble contender.
-------------------------
7. Union Union is continuing to struggle after their huge drop off last year. I have hope that they will recover by the end of the year, but until they prove themselves at the
8. Yukon Mustang Invitational, I'm not sold on them this year. I will be at RR to watch them live, and get an opinion of them there. Yukon looks and sounds like they did last
year. I don't know what caused this sudden change in quality, but I love it. If they can clean up like they did last year, and push it a little further, I expect them to give Union and ESF some scares later in the season.
-------------------------
9. Southmoore Southmoore and Edmond Memorial were two bands that I will have my eyes on for the remainder of the season. Both shows have so much potential, and they
10. Edmond Memorial definitely shouldn't be slept on. I don't see them breaking into the top 8 at OBA, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. With Southmoore going to STL this year, I think they could have some great things in the works.
--------------------------
11. Piedmont This tier is loaded. Ranking across contests, especially early season, is never accurate, and these five bands are so close that it was impossible to find an order I was
12. Collinsville content with. I only have Choctaw and Deer Creek this low because of their placements in the past two weekends of competitions, but both of their shows are very
13. Choctaw impressive, and I think they could rise higher into 6A Finals than some might expect. Particularly Choctaw. I didn't get to see them at Owasso, but I have seem a
14. Westmoore recording of their show from the week before and while they were very dirty, I thought their show had a crazy amount of potential, and could possibly top last year's
15. Deer Creek show. Piedmont is incredibly clean for this point in the season, but their show does seem simpler than some of the shows it has competed against. Take Westmoore for example. I think Westmoore will end the season with the best show they have ever put on the field, but they lost in finals at the Yukon contest because they just weren't clean enough or consistent enough to beat out Piedmont. Then there's Collinsville. Their show is very well rounded in terms of early season cleanliness and difficulty. I am excited to see their final product at the end of the season. ------------------------
16. Edmond North Just because these bands are in this bottom tier does not mean they are bad by any means. I was impressed by all of these bands and expect them to shake up
17. Coweta the rankings as the season progresses.
18. Stillwater
19. Tahlequah
Predictions for End of the Season (With placements for 5A OBA in parenthesis):
1. BA
2. Mustang
3. Owasso
4. Bixby
5. Jenks
6. Yukon
7. Union
8. Edmond Santa Fe
9. Choctaw
10. Southmoore
11. Edmond Memorial
12. Deer Creek
13. Westmoore
14. Collinsville (1)
15. Coweta (2)
16. Piedmont (3)
17. Stillwater
18. Edmond North
19. Tahlequah

I'll just reply to you here because yes, sadly OK-BC is dead lol. I think those are solid takes! I really agree with you on the points of where bands are now vs. where they will end up. Some are dirtier at this point, but the end goal is bigger/the shows have way more potential than others. Gonna be an exciting year. I love seeing all of the movement in placements, especially around the top. Makes for some super interesting stuff!

I’m active over there on occasion but it’s so dead right now . It feels like more of an archive of years past than somewhere to discuss the here and now. It would be nice to get it back to life again.

Such a shame that OK-BC is dead. Especially since it's such a detailed archive of Oklahoma marching band over the past 20ish years. On the other hand, it really is crazy how stacked the competition is in Oklahoma this year. Even just some five years ago, the scene was nowhere near as competitive as it is now, which is a true testament to the tenacity and talent of directors, staff, and students! I'm crazy excited to see how these predictions play out by the end of the season.

Totally forgot to post BAI predictions!
1. Jenks H.S., OK - I was very impressed by their performance at Owasso and think their placement there was a matter of other bands being really good this year, not them being bad. 2. Camdenton H.S., MO - I haven't seen Camdenton this year, but if they are anything like previous years, I could see them grabbing first as well! 3. Southmoore H.S., OK- Easily medals here. I think they are really good this year with their upcoming trip to St. Louis, so they could potentially grab 2nd, who knows! 4. Muskogee H.S., OK 5. Sherman H.S., TX 6. Tahlequah H.S., OK 7. McAlester H.S., OK 8. Berryhill H.S., OK 9. Sallisaw H.S., OK
