Now this is one I’ve been waiting to see! Bring it! Haha, that's great! You can really tell they're gunning for GN finals this year. I'll admit I wasn't 100% sold on the prom theme when I first heard about it, but that looks like such a fun show to march! Side note: I never realized how HUGE their front ensemble was until they put all the marimbas and xylophones and vibes all side by side like that.

I think I counted nearly 40 members in their front ensemble? Their front ensemble has so many members that they alone outnumber the membership limit for an entire division of hundreds of bands in the northeast!

They have certainly regrown after any loss from the last few years. I’m wondering if they’re fielding all students instead of having a separate competitive group. I’m not sure how I feel about the show yet, but I love the colors!

Marching band is not required to be in band so there are some students who choose not to march and instead play fall sports etc.

My thoughts/analysis on this weekend:
1. VERY impressed by Jenks, Southmoore, and Camdenton. 2. I stand by my statement that Jenks is REALLY good this year. I think a lot of people may be underestimating them, but I expect them to make a splash at the Indy Super Regional. I honestly consider them to be a lock there. 3. Southmoore is also doing extremely well this year, and I think the last few seasons have been working up to this moment. I have not seen them on many people's predictions lists for St. Louis, but I really think they have a very good shot at finals there. 4. I also think Camdenton is taking their program to the next level yet again. Such a fun program to watch grow and develop, and I always really enjoy their shows. 5. Mustang Invitational results were EXTREMELY interesting! Not at all surprised to see a decisive Santa Fe victory. They are really a program to keep our eyes on the next few years. I think only the sky is the limit with them! 6. The Edmond schools in general are killing it, and I am really impressed with Deer Creek. I think with the right ingredients, they could be a program that really starts to skyrocket in the next few years as well. I am excited to see them at Grand Nats this year. Not quite sure they are at semis-level yet, but who knows where the season will take them. Would love to see it! 7. Yukon is in a really good place for another historic year. They have a very challenging show and now that the whole thing is on the field, it's time to clean, clean, clean! I think by St. Louis and especially OBA we will be seeing a very advanced and well-developed show. 8. The Piedmont/Coweta battle is TIGHT! I am excited to see how 5A OBA goes and to see how Collinsville mixes in to everything. They are also having a great season with their 3rd place finish at Bentonville this weekend. 9. I think Union in 10th shocked us all. I think it is going to be very interesting to see how this season goes for them. I did not see a video of their performance, but I am pretty surprised they placed that low. Not sure what is going on. It isn't a good sign for their placement at Indy later this season, but they are a resilient group! Anything could happen. 10. Broken Arrow looks GOOD this year. They have a really fierce show, and I really hope and think that they have a great shot at a repeat national championship. Excited to see the program in uniforms and with finished props (assuming they are unfinished, they looked like they were). 11. Mustang is also looking great this year. The more I watch their show, the more I get on board with it. I think it will be really amazing by Grand Nats and I think they are VERY much in the conversation for finals. I like the uniforms a LOT and I am a little confused by the tarps. I am wondering if my vantage points have just not been the best or if the tarps have something that makes more sense on the other side or something. Either way, excited to see how the show progresses. 12. 6A OBA is going to be SO spicy this year. I feel like for the first time in a long time, the bottom 4-5 spots could go to a variety of groups which is really crazy. Such an exciting year for Oklahoma bands. I really hope this trend continues, because I felt like last year was exciting and this year already beats last year.

Their tarps that they used last night are rehearsal tarps. Their real tarps haven’t arrived yet, so it’s a bunch of old winter-guard floors cut up and taped together.

BAs props are unfinished. There was a mostly finished prop under the stands that some people saw. Also speaking with the band it sounds like they don’t have the show uniforms in yet…. Hoping to see at Saint Louis.

I can’t imagine spending that much money on something that you hardly will even get to wear. Like a wedding dress. 😁

Like a wedding dress. 😁 5(ish) performances > no performances at least...Apparently they've changed the uniform from the original design and it's taken some time. Camdenton only got their uniforms recently as well, so it may be something going on with FJM.

Seems like contest uniforms are hard to get quickly this year.

Predictions! 4A and 1A-2A-3A OBA are this weekend! I am going to give a shot at 4A because I am a bit more familiar with those bands. 1A-2A-3A OBA is harder because I have not seen many of those shows at all and videos are more difficult to come by. I will try predicting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
1A-2A-3A Predictions:
1A Champ: Oklahoma Union 2A Champ: Washington 3A Champ: Checotah
1st: Checotah 2nd: Berryhill 3rd: Washington
4A Predictions:
1. Sallisaw 2. Fort Gibson 3. Blanchard 4. Tuttle 5. Catoosa 6. Woodward 7. Oologah 8. Cushing 9. Skiatook 10. Ada 11. Harrah 12. Weatherford

But, they are one of those 3A bands that COULD do it. I'm in the same boat as you in that I can't find much to go off of to make predictions for these smaller guys. My money is on Berryhill maintaining their streak this weekend, though.

A former BA band parent? 👀 To a couple of baritones and a flute that graduated this year and I’m very proud ☺️ We’ve had close relations as bands since I was in high school, and I picked up a few freshmen from there when I was a senior. I love those kids. Unfortunately the swag shop was out of Broken Arrow Pride Mom shirts by the time I got there Pssst. ilikeguard I re-inventoried the Pride Mom shirts and as long as you're not wanting a small I can hook you up.

5A OBA Schedule (as of 10/11) 11:00 - Coweta 11:15 - Durant 11:30 - Shawnee 11:45 - Grove LUNCH 1:30 - Piedmont 1:45 - Claremore 2:00 - Carl Albert 2:15 - Pryor 2:30 - Collinsville BREAK 3:00 - Guthrie 3:15 - Sapulpa 3:30 - Glenpool 3:45 - Edison Prep 4:00 - McAlester
6A1-2 OBA Schedule (as of 10/11) 10:00 - PC West (6A2) 10:15 - Yukon (6A1) 10:30 - Jenks (6A1) 10:45 - Union (6A1) 11:00 - Stillwater (6A2) 11:15 - PC North (6A2) 11:30 - Moore (6A1) 11:45 - Deer Creek (6A2) 12:00 - Edmond North (6A1) LUNCH 1:00 - Edmond Santa Fe (6A1) 1:15 - Westmoore (6A1) 1:30 - Mustang (6A1) 1:45 - Edmond Memorial (6A1) 2:00 - Tahlequah (6A2) 2:15 - Broken Arrow (6A1) BREAK 2:45 - Southmoore (6A1) 3:00 - Owasso (6A1) 3:15 - Bixby (6A1) 3:30 - Bartlesville (6A2) 3:45 - Choctaw (6A2) 4:00 - Muskogee (6A2)
Thoughts so far: There were some interesting draws this year for both 5A and 6A! Yukon going second is definitely going to hurt them a little bit, and there's so many other potential finalists in each block! In 5A, it looks like Coweta is going first which may also sting them a bit, but knowing them they'll power through. All in all, looks like both contests are going to be very fun to watch and will yield some very interesting results. I'm curious to see how 6A will shake up as far as finalists go as there will definitely be several finals-deserving bands packing up and going home before 7. I'll have my way-too-early predictions and breakdowns for both contests coming soon!
