Way to go Homestead! Some great visual and music moments added between last week and this week. Some obvious student holes in the drill which unfortunately doesn’t help an already struggling visual program BUT overall a good run. Plus the new uniforms look FANTASTIC! Hoping for another run on Saturday 🤞🏽

Nice job, Homestead!! I legit wish they had another week or two to clean - their sound is really, really starting to sparkle. There are still some rough releases and a balance issue here & there but overall I am loving the deep, rich, well-blended sound Warfield is getting out of them. They look great, but visual has always been Homestead's strength. I do feel like one more week or two and they'd find that Homestead sparkle - the show certainly has it in parts! They're getting there. Out of the entire field today, I think Miamisburg & Goshen are the only groups so far that could make the case for placing above Homestead. I'm not saying they're a lock for Semis - it's too massive of a field this year - but they should be quite happy with the case they made. From a bit more of a bird's eye view (and I know this doesn't help alum), I'm really enjoying watching the strip down and then slow, proper growth of Homestead. I do feel like they will end up back at their old competitive stature, but much more sustainably and powerfully than before, even if it takes a few years.

No doubt DB will fix the tuning issues between the chorus and chamber ensemble come semis! Loving this show so far!

I think this is my first viewing of DB this year. DB has some absolutely stunning full ensemble hits. Music book seems of a little higher technical demand than usual. They managed the tempo change and accelerando in their closer very well.

I am not a big fan of this DB show after seeing it play out. I hope the pit can tighten up on their soli in Candide and the brass can fix that splatty ending. Nice job but definitely liked homestead musically more. I know I may be in the minority here. ☺️

Dobyns!!!! TOO. MUCH. FUN!! Oh I've been dying for someone to do Bernstein's Candide justice like that since playing it in college 15 years ago - opulent, ridiculous, absurd, luxuriant, GRANDIOSE! Give it the bizarre visual treatment that it screams out for. We haven't seen everyone else yet, but hard to see that getting knocked out of the top 6 - although they lost control a bit on the last few chords, DB sounds much more refined & honed in than last year. It's an incredible design that the kids are obviously having a great time sinking their teeth into. Fabulous, fabulous showing from DB this year!

Ok this was a first time viewing of DB for me and for me personally they did not live up to the hype this season. Now I’m not saying they aren’t going to make finals but based on that run I definitely wouldn’t consider them a lock like most seem to have them. They have some fantastic musical and visual moments, and their woodwinds and guard really shine, but I’m just not sold. Maybe after a 2nd viewing on Saturday I can see more what others seem to be seeing.

Also - that tuba soli before the coda & accelerando at the end is the sh*t. Those tuba players were having a blast.

Homestead finally got their new uniforms!! Woohoo! Better late than never 😜 I found out at State Finals that they were finally getting them and that they were going to debut the full uniforms today. Didn't quite still believe it till I saw it, but yeah. It was very hard for me to hold it in that they were. I really like them. Modern, but still traditional. I didn't think they would really make too much of a difference visually but they actually made a lot of stuff pop! Really added to the show. Guess the old uniforms were just too dark for good visual reads. Additional thoughts for Homestead. Each performance I've seen them live seems to have been better and better. This performance DID have a number of holes though as many members are out with the Flu (hopefully no Covid cases at this time) and most are expected to be well enough to return for a Saturday performance if they are able to advance. That run, to me, is one that they can really be proud of. Such a good controlled sound. I would LOVE for them to put out some more volume in some of the bigger impacts especially in the opening movements. But one step at a time as they've already rounded a corner on being the best sounding Homestead I've heard. Etching that in stone now. Great job Homestead. Very happy and proud alum!

I thought the beginning of Homestead was kind of rough. I think they'll be in semis again but last 8.
DB has a more refined sound this year and they really execute the hard stuff well. I actually thought the big ensemble moments seems a little loose sound quality wise. But that could be chalked up to anything.
Dang Castle sounds amazing.

Castle always impresses me with how well they sound and play. Similarly to last year, I find their visual GE a bit lacking, although there are some cool moments with the numbers appearing in the drill.

Castle making their case well, their forms have cleaned up. I think top 15 again at least.

Castles show has really grown on me this season. Definitely not my favorite of theirs by any means, especially after last season, but overall nice! As others have posted before, you can tell that the band is young this year, but considering that they are handling things really well. Fantastic ensemble moments and their uniform number block is one of my favorite visual moments of the season! Great job Castle!

My goodness - having not caught many videos this year and looking mostly at scores, coupled with Dean's retirement, I assumed Castle was on the lower end of the Finals bubble heading into this weekend. WOW!! They showed up to perform three times! That has to be the loudest, most massive ensemble sound I've ever heard from a Castle band. Last year's intense power but more harnessed and controlled this season - which makes them sound even more powerful! The show works really, really well and seems like the vibe they were going for but couldn't quite nail down 2018 - 2021. Tons of demand in both the music & visual books that they're handling like champs. Everything just snaps. They've hit on some gold this year. Really thrilled to see them obliterate my expectations.

I'm admittedly a brass snob who is bad at paying attention to drill, guard, and GE, but I think that Castle is going to be one of the bubble bands that squeezes into finals
