This Bono impression narration in Pulse is legitimately bad. Love Pulse most years… not this show so much. This is what makes me scratch my head. As a WORLD CLASS ensemble, what is so innovative about this show that has it ranked above Rhythm X, RCC, or Broken City? What are the World Class effects? Are their beats just that much more impressive than any other groups'? (Legitimate questions here as a non-percussionist) these were pretty much my questions about Carmel last weekend. As good as they are, I didn’t understand what made them better than the other 3 far more exciting SW guards I felt should have won over them.

Clover winning PSA and PSO btb is just tremendous. And i agree with the recap putting them 3rd in visual. Although their visual was still pretty decent. I did like Union too though especially that tarp and the music effect. But clover tried to tell a story and that was just another level of concept to portray from the members.
Clover has been on top of the percussion world (along w Dorman) in SC for over a decade now. But they’ve really got their staff and design together recently that they seem unstoppable now.

Okay the staff just picking up the sacrifice after Boswell finished was great humor!

When Cy-Fair entered the floor, I was like, "is this Broken City?" Now, after their performance, I'm not convinced that it's not Broken City....

There is nothing the Dartmouth marimba line can't do! Except they downstroke a lot but that is just a stylistic preference really for me to not.
Love the production value of the show - always so good. Every part of the show just adds to itself. Especially comparing the costumes of the dance teams of Dartmouth and Center Grove, the Dartmouth team was way more integrated and portrayed the raven theme better imo.

Vista's show is comparatively boring to Dartmouth, and the music demand is much easier. However, the control of the music is extremely good dynamically, with technique, and with regard to tempo control. Reminds me of Nation Ford in 2012 "with arms wide open."

LOVED THAT VISTA MURRIETA SHOW SO MUCH
I think this show is the best example I've seen of a non-Broken City group doing a Broken City show. It gives me hope that that style isn't just a gimmick; instead, it really is its own school of sound and design waiting to be explored.

I obviously don't mean any disrespect. I completely understand why people appreciate the Broken City vibe. I've just personally reached the point of feeling like if I've seen them once I've seen them all.

Okay I have no problem with Chino Hills winning, but I really don't like the wind accompaniment!

I think this is coming down to a question of which caption's judge is going to view a certain unit's performance as miles better than the others, resulting in that caption spread deciding the winner. Music should go to Chino Hills (but question here - are the winds included in music caption? My lord were they out of tune), Visual and Visual GE should go to Ayala, and GE I could quite honestly see going to any of the top three for very different reasons.
My money is on Ayala, but I presume the safe bet is Chino Hills getting their seventh title tonight. I also think Dartmouth falls out of the top 5 for the first time, and Sparkman makes a move.

Okay I have no problem with Chino Hills winning, but I really don't like the wind accompaniment! This is a much nicer, shorter way of saying what I wanted to say lol They detracted from the climax which, to me, was enough to sway GE from them to Ayala. But I know little about cleanliness, so I wouldn’t be surprised if raw Music scores keep them in first.

Awesome, will be looking up handpan music once finals is over ✍️ I agree about their show being a vibe. I think indoor is a PERFECT canvas for sacred geometry to speak through. But I also find that scandalous because I’ve come to associate sacred geometry with using LSD, as a lot of sacred geometry art is designed by painters while they’re on a trip... Look up @alexgreycosm on Instagram—he’s most famous for designing album covers for Tool. In any case, what a cool show and hopefully not the last time a group uses this art style.

I loved Monarch’s closer drill. Super simple yet thoughtful. I always appreciate their shows; no matter what, there’s going to be a full point of view driving every decision in the show.
It felt like United ushered in a new benchmark of performance quality not yet seen this evening. An intimidating level of conviction in their performance. A sign of what’s to come, I think these last few groups will be a real treat.

Time to see if Infinity whips out anything special for finals night. I'm still hanging onto hope that they somehow go full send on the paint concept given the permanency of paint won't matter after finals night.

I’m usually not a big fan of Matrix shows, but there’s something about this one that just works for me. Sometimes I feel like they would find more success if they showed a touch more editing or restraint. But if you can take their design intentions in good faith, then their show this year is really special.

There’s something about Broken City’s and Chino Hills’ closers that leave me a little unfulfilled. I think some of their closer design choices—e.g., BC’s voiceovers and CH’s band—hindered their shows from fully climaxing. These choices were of a different taste level than the choices of any other vertical events in their shows; the horizontal flow of their shows did not have me expecting the final vertical moments they performed.
(But I suppose these taste choices can be overlooked when your shows are otherwise impeccable in design and execution.)

Kinda bummed that this was my only chance to catch RCC’s show and their violin was inaudible for most of it. I hope that was a Flo thing and not an electronics glitch. Regardless, I felt like their performance quality grew as time went on; they had me leaning closer and closer in.
I wonder if they can hold off Rhythm X, though. I think X had a strong run tonight. And that vis ensemble choreography—so inspired and so fully developed!!

What an INSANE night of talent. This year was so good that I might have to shell out the $$$ to go see this live next year.
I really agree with the overall neighborhoods that the judges have implied amongst the IW groups. I might do some scrambling within Scholastic World though:
1. Ayala 2. Vista Murrieta 3. Avon 4. Chino Hills 5. Center Grove 6. Cy-Fair 7. Broken Arrow 8. Dartmouth 9. Clear Brook 10. Burleson Centennial 11. Sparkman 12. Arcadia 13. Boswell 14. Franklin Central 15. Petal
(I definitely weigh a show’s effect plan and performance energy above everything else. Maybe that explains any head-scratching choices…)
