Can someone explain for a non-Hoosier: for bands that don't make it to semi-state, is this effectively the end of their competitive season (unless they have BOA)? On October 7th? Are there no other in-state competitions apart from the state track of competitions?

Wow. That's pretty surprising. I haven't seen their show this season but just the idea of MPLT not making semistate is hard to imagine Crazy. The horrible regional judging strikes again lol A poster on IN Bands is suggesting that MPLT incurred a penalty that contributed to their elimination.

Can confirm that the high temp at Center Grove was a nickel under 88 degrees, while the high temp at Lafayette was a quarter over 87 degrees.

A source tells me the temps at the South A regional were hottest in Carmel, to the surprise of no one, but that Center Grove was second hottest, which was interesting. Whiteland was said to be a little warmer than Lawrence and Perry Meridian. They said no penalties kept bands from being warm enough for Semi-State.

After todays regional and the information we have so far… here’s my educated WILD guess 1-11 (Yes, 11 because its too tight and I want to make sure I include everyone who is in my list for State)
LOCKED: 1: Carmel 2: Avon 3: Brownsburg 4: Center Grove 5: Fishers
In the bubble 6-7: Noblesville/Castle 8-9:Homestead/Carrol 10: Goshen 11: Penn

Forgot to mention that New Palestine was the eliminated band down here. The stadium had problems with certain bands sound equipment and unfortunately them and Greenwood got the bulk of it. Also, I thought Plainfield would’ve been better. Been a minute since they were class B, so I haven’t kept up with them.

Weather reports from the Grove would be, in a word, sublime. Any weather reporters out there? Class C south 2 degrees difference between 1 and 2. Very strict/stingy/tough to understand weather men too. Rest of the weather reports I seen were hard to understand/make out. North temps seemed a bit above normal, looks like they had a head wave today. Regional weather, gotta love it.

Whoah, judging is pretty rough this year 😬😬 Yeah it was surprising in I think all open classes. I'm still shocked on things.

Far more distinctions in North A than South A. Interesting... Yes North judges seemed a bit more laid back than South. I am a parent from a successful C band but my heart was racing. Thankfully we got what we needed today.

Weather reports from the Grove would be, in a word, sublime. Any weather reporters out there? Class C south 2 degrees difference between Edgewood and Princeton areas. Edgewood was the warmest today, Princeton was the second warmest. If I read correctly Scottsburg was the 3rd warmest. Very strict/stingy/tough to understand weather men too. Rest of the weather reports I seen were hard to understand/make out. North temps seemed a bit above normal, looks like they had a heat wave today. Regional weather, gotta love it.

Correct. It’s the end of their ISSMA run. No semi state or state. Interesting, thank you for this. What is the general feeling across the community in terms of the the season coming to such an early end for some (or the advancement track in general)? Is that part of what led to the creation of Scholastic class? More performance opportunities for bands that may not be likely to advance? Not advancing is just part of the game once Regionals/Semi-State/State competitions start. There are still invitationals and BOA competitions after Regionals. Ostensibly Scholastic Class was intended for schools to rebuild in that have significant hardships like difficulty keeping directors, extreme financial difficulties with low available community support, etc. Open Class is based only on school size while Scholastic Class is based on school size with limits on band sizes because those schools typically can't field bands the size that would be able to compete with Open Class bands for schools their size. Scholastic Class is judged like Open Class, though, where bands compete against each other. Indiana actually has another class, Festival Class, where bands are judged against criteria for gold, silver, bronze and not against each other. In practice, Scholastic Class has become a class that a lot of bands just hang out in rather than using it as a way to rebuild and move back into Open Class, which was the way it was kind of pitched when it was created. ISSMA probably needs to revamp its whole system, but that's not likely to happen.

Any weather reports on Brownsburg and Fishers? They were not at the same location, so you can't really compare scores.

ISSMA judging typically includes surprises. Greenwood not making it that one year might top the list. lol. Followed up by Greenfield missing the next year. 2016 and 17 class B semi state judging was bizarre. Both bands were very very good in the years they missed.
