anyone want to share their wild cards for state finals this year? Penn edges out Goshen or gets the spot Lawrence Twp had last year.

Does anyone know what the benchmarks are to receive distinction in Music, Effect, and Visual? I believe the score to receive distinction in music and effect is 33 points. Not sure what the visual cutoff is though -- maybe 16.5?

Anyone have weather reports for class B north (carroll) The land of the grapes was temperate at just under 80 degrees. The big cheese was about 2 degrees lower, but nearly 3 degrees warmer than the white stallions, the Fort Wayne area and the seed corn company. The home of Brad Miller was another degree cooler then another degree drop to the landing of the Pilgrims. 8th was a new entrant to the scene and they roared because it was 2 degrees cooler than the city above it. Then a degree cooler around the Vikings and half a degree cooler by our Amish friends

I, sir, give a tip of the cap to you on your “home of Brad Miller” reference, as I played one-on-one with him when we both went to the same high school. I’m glad the marching knights seem to be having a good season! Anyone have weather reports for class B north (carroll) The land of the grapes was temperate at just under 80 degrees. Whoah, judging is pretty rough this year 😬😬 I haven't seen the panel for anything except Class A at Center Grove, but THAT panel would be 6/7 of a powerhouse panel for a BOA Super Regional Finals or Grand Nationals Semifinals. Maybe the issue isn't with judging itself, but rather with the rubric defined by ISSMA.

I’m not sure it’s that nefarious. They have a large faction of their director membership that takes a dim view on public scoring in competition. Good bands in BOA tend to be well received in the ISSMA rubric with little to no controversy. ISSMA gets really good judges for many of their contests.

Did anyone else happen to catch the score improvement for Franklin Central from the Fishers competition to the Center Grove regional? I know it’s probably comparing apples to oranges since we are looking different judging panels and scoring rubrics, but an over 8 point difference is pretty dramatic. Could some of the change be due to performing second to last at Center Grove instead of first at Fishers? Was the performance at Fishers not their best? I had just never seen this big of an improvement in one week.

Anyone have info on a judge messing with the weather in the north (a cooling effect) for one band? Word is the band in question got an apology from ISSMA.

Yes. Watch to see if a certain North meteorologist (is that the term) is involved - ever again, with ISSMA. We really can't have this happen with this activity. If you see the weather report breakdown, you'll notice unusual shade covering one band. It's a shame. The students work too hard for such pettine....er, errant reports. How awful. Exactly. What message does it send to these kids who bust their butts every day that someone can have a grudge against your program and stick it to you at this level of competition? They deserved so much better than that.

I come back to the age old problem that we can't really compare weather reports from the north and south as two different meteorologists interpretted the winds a bit differently! Regional judges main concern it to get the best 10 bands at that site to advance to semi=state. And we will experience the same inconsistent application of meteorology other than those judges are to get the best 10 bands to advance to state. Numbers management. I am remembering my annual frustration that I chose to forget from last year. LOL

The 8th place ME score? Eh, it happens. If the head judge confirmed that score then that is that judge’s opinion.
No one was crying on the boards when a judge gave a 10th place VGE score to a state champion at state finals. ISSMA didn’t apologize for that traveshamockery. Save us the sanctimony.

Or another band getting 8th in a sub caption where they’ve been 1st or 2nd all year. Does that mean that judge had it out for them?
