Homestead: We have electronics! I’m glad we get our first official look at the props also. While they are not necessary for the overall show story, they add a nice extra layer of detail and depth. Opening solo was a little rough, especially compared to normal. Some minor guard issues as well. Balance sounded pretty good and their high brass didn’t stick out tonight which always seems to be a problem for them. Overall thought this was a pretty great run! I still stand by the fact that Homestead is far outperforming themselves compared to this time last year. The show has a lot of growth potential, especially as the last part is added. Yes it suck’s that they are starting off the top 7 block but they were firing on almost all cylinders tonight. Great job Spartan Alliance!

Wow Homestead. That sounded pretty undeniable.

The sax solo actually being audible made a huge difference, and the props do help set the mood of the show as well. I think Homestead will have a decent lead in music, which I'm predicting will solidify them to take the win tonight.

Goshen: this is my second time seeing Goshen this year and yet again I’m in awe! This is honestly the best production Goshen has ever put out. Some great music, soloists and small group moments. Really relatively clean for this time of year both musically and visually. The only weakness that I really see are some design choices, though that is often personal preference. Way to go Goshen!

After the first 6, here are my just for fun rankings with quick bits!
1. Homestead (As much improvement from prelims as I could have expected for now. Electronics worked, props in and help frame the field, and bit tighter musically) 2. Reeths-Puffer (Similar if not slightly better performance than prelims) 3. Archbishop Alter (Some feedback from the speakers at first but they pulled it together. I'm once again a sucker for this show!) 4. Hamilton Southeastern (Better run musically and visually tonight! Welcome to your first BOA Finals ever!) 5. DeWitt (Didn't feel quite as solid as prelims but in no way think that this group isn't going to have a great season) 6. Lake Central (Visually a better run. Musically, the morning was better. But it is clear this band is turning a corner for the better)

Beavercreek: I’m a sucker for a dark show, especially this time of year so naturally I loved their music selections. Yet another great opening solo with the beautiful flute soloist. As we move into the second part, those woodwind runs… yes!!! Some great power as we move towards the end , but with that comes some major balance issues. Visual design is where they lack the most. For those band fans from Indiana, Beavercreek screams Concord to me! Very similar design styles both musically and visually. Both have modernized themselves in recent years but also keep that classic marching band feel.

Dublin Coffman: I’m guessing that Dublin was our tie for 6th place. Overall show design is not my cup of tea at all. That considered, while more basic than other groups, they looked and sounded pretty clean visually and musically. Just like every other group here so far, some great solo moments also! For me personally the show just doesn’t flow well design wise. It’s tough following up groups like Homestead & Goshen also.

Cute show from Dublin Coffman. I think it was executed solidly, and very likely is the reason why they were placed into the top half. I'd have to agree design-wise, year-after-year, recently it always seems a bit boring and lackluster. I've made this same comment before, but I'd really like to see them play some slightly harder music, march slightly harder drill, and push their dynamic range a bit too.

Rockford definitely has my favorite show so far. Love the ballad and interpretation of "Aurora Awakes!" Great job!

Rockford: wow! What a strong opening. Some really nice woodwind moments also that really help to carry the show! Nice strong guard. While visual demand isn’t too high and they weren’t as clean as others, they have some great moments. Love how they truly use the whole field! Obviously they have more to add, but the current ending spot seems a little odd to me.

The random tag at the end which I'm assuming is the beginning of their final movement was super random.

I didn't see Rockford this morning, but I am genuinely confused that they didn't take a single caption in AAA? I think this can definitely compete against Goshen, Homestead, and Jenison. The show design flowed really well and I enjoyed the music book. Visual design made sense most of the time as well. I'm also not shocked they sounded very good, as they did last year as well.

Jenison: I love a good cohesive theme and that’s what Jenison provides all around. From props to costumes, flags, music and design. This is a great production. Visually pretty clean also. I absolutely love the soloists in the 2nd part. Some timing and balance issues overall but not terrible for a demanding music book. Musically they were muddy in several parts which may hold them back tonight. I love a strong small school band! Right now I have them behind both Homestead and Goshen but who knows (other than the judges 😂)

Question- does anyone know?
Does PCEP pull from Salem, Canton, and Plymouth high schools?
I remember how HUGE they used to be back in the day!

Plymouth-Canton: now that’s a fun show! I loved that their show was a crowd pleaser last season and I’m glad they are going that route again this season. Love their arranged version of the back to the future theme song. Yes some obvious music and visual dirt but overall just a really fun show and honestly an amazing way to close out this regional.
Also, I want that pedal powered DeLorean at the end of the season, please and thank you!
