What limits Ft. Wayne from having a BOA regional isn't about having a location that can logistically handle that number of bands. It's the lack of a stadium large enough to handle the crowds. Homestead's stands get pretty packed even with an event with a lot smaller bands. Plus, despite it being the largest stadium in the area, it's still pretty small and down right JV compared to Texas ones No lie, Center Grove and Ben Davis dwarfs Homestead like it's nothing. All 3 have fantastic logistical flow infrastructure, just Homestead is lacking a lot more in seating.

Add to that that the Homestead parents themselves would fill half the stadium (and the entire area between the 35's) and no way could they support a BOA event. Penn probably could. Lafayette Jefferson? Chesterton? But of course all of these are so far from Toledo that they're not really suitable as replacements.

It looks like the "closest" sizable facility would be Ball State in Muncie, and that's not even that close.

What I find ironic is that this show has more Indiana bands than Ohio bands in contrast to, oh...say, Grand Nationals hah!

Unless all 15 bands advance to finals (I think 14 is the threshold for that), here are my finalist tiers (in ABC order) and class predictions:
Homestead H.S., IN Plymouth-Canton E.P., MI ————— Carroll H.S., IN Jension H.S., MI Miamisburg H.S., OH Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI ————— Fairfield H.S., OH Lake Orion H.S., MI Norton H.S., OH West Genesee H.S., NY ————— DeWitt H.S., MI Elkhart Central H.S., IN Kent City H.S., MI Norwell H.S., IN Victor H.S., NY
Class A: 1) Norton H.S., OH 2) Kent City H.S., MI
Class AA: 1) Jenison H.S., MI 2) Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI 3) West Genesee H.S., NY
Class AAA: 1) Miamisburg H.S., OH

Unless all 15 bands advance to finals (I think 14 is the threshold for that) Reading the 2019 Adjudication Manual and Rulebook, Regionals are a 10 band final. I know when fields are small that gets expanded, but I’m not sure how that is determined.

BOA has advanced everyone in the prelims to finals in the past if the field is small enough, i.e. 11-12 bands. Toledo may fall under that exception, but I wouldn't expect that to be the case this year.

2017 Canton and Powder Springs regionals saw all 13 bands advance. 2016 Monroeville regional saw all 14 bands advance. I'm not sure... 15 bands seems like a lot for finals, IMO. And 5 is alot to allow to perform twice, without qualifying. True dat. I totally agree. The most I’ve ever seen is 14, which I think is fair. 15, though...

Fifteen bands would be absurd. No one would want to sit through a 15 band final in Toldeo the first week in September.

I believe Akron in 2012 was a 14 band regional finals and prelims but not 15. The bigger question is why does BOA focus on Ohio so much? Like California, they don’t seem to be super well received. I will say on the other hand that they were very smart to go to Iowa and Virginia.

I will say on the other hand that they were very smart to go to Iowa and Virginia. Because Ohio is a somewhat centrally-located state and can draw from PA, MI, IN, KY, TN, IL, WV, even NY... Different parts of OH are very easily a single day trip for A LOT of the great lakes region. BUT - cut the number of events down in OH/IN and you could see 2/3 much bigger events. It's also still very much the case that more OH bands attend GN every year than any other state.

According to the Horn Rank schedule page, all 15 groups will be performing in finals. I think that's excessive, to be honest, for a regional that would normally only advance 10.

The Toledo Regional page on MFA shows finals starting at 6:45 and ending at 10:30 with no exhibition groups included. That is consistent with 15 bands in finals.
Agree that they shouldn't advance 15. I like systems that use a set number of finalists OR half of all participating groups, whichever is less. In this case, there would be 7 or 8 finalists.

This. Rather than having everyone perform twice (so, does prelims really even matter?), have the top half earn the opportunity.

Rather than having everyone perform twice (so, does prelims really even matter?), have the top half earn the opportunity.---------------------- I don't think it's even necessary to cap it at the top half. Why not just, I don't know...ten...like a regional is supposed to be? I could see if it was 11 bands and it would be sort of harsh to eliminate a single group...but five? I think this alone would cut down on prelims attendance. Why would I want to bother attending prelims just to have to sit through the same 15 groups (half of which, let's be honest, most people don't want to see twice in one day) again a few hours later? Padding finals by a full 50% is ridiculous and rather unfair to those who would have earned a spot on merit.
