Maybe it's a good thing that all of these groups (especially the weaker ones) are given the chance to be evaluated twice by a panel of national-caliber judges. Some of these bands come from circuits void of many/any competent judges. What a great opportunity to learn and grow!
Given how many of the country's top bands attend 2-3 regionals in a season, thereby limiting the opportunity for growing bands to sneak into finals, I'm all about a regional like this that gives students a taste of what performing in finals and standing in finals retreat feels like.

For all of you who have been around BOA and to shows all know they preach their mission. If all 15 advance, who cares. Let the kids perform twice, get the commentary, let them grow.
On the flip side, MFA would love to have money coming in from 15 groups in Finals rather than just 10...

I'm curious: what about 15 groups in finals would yield more money than 10 groups in finals? It's not like groups pay an extra fee to be in finals...

Obviously there must be a limit, but having established what that limit is why expand it by 50%? I still contend that it waters down the experience for those who qualify on merit. This is a competition after all, and making a regional final is...or should be...an achievement. But will it be if the last place group from prelims gets to boast about being a "Regional Finalist?"

The merit comes from placing in the top 10 anyways. If you place there, congratulations. If you don’t, you still have a second set of world class adjudicator comments in the early season that you can use for the remainder of the season. I don’t think any last place group will be “boasting” about it, because anyone can find out that all bands qualified for finals. It’s one small regional that, for the most part, will probably be the least-watched and attended regional of that weekend anyway. So my thought is... who cares? Let the kids who would otherwise not get that experience have it, and let everything else fall into place as it would if it were just 10 bands in finals. Also I’m not trying to come for you personally... just sharing my opinion in general. Just want to make that clear 😅

Predictions? Not a very interesting Regional, really. Other than a first look at Homestead. They should sweep, and if they do not it won't be a good sign for them. Carroll is coming off a good win over Penn/Concord/Goshen last week and I like them over PCEP. But I'd not bet big money there. Jenison should follow, and after that I have no idea.
1. Homestead (all captions) 2. Carroll 3. PCEP 4. Jenison 5-15. Absolutely no clue.

1. Homestead 2. Carroll 3. PCEP 4. Jenison 5. Reeths-Puffer 6. Miamisburg 7. Lake Orion 8. Fairfield 9. DeWitt 10. Norton 11. West Genesee 12. Victor 13. Elkhart Central 14. Norwell 15. Kent City
I know I said last week that West Genesee and Victor would easily be in the 8th-10th place range, but I've changed my mind after the results of a local competition this past weekend. I think DeWitt and Norton could make somewhat of a splash here.

I do like Carroll, IN's show this year. I could hear their director telling the students that they were having electronic issues, so they unfortunately were unable to preform their preshow. Nice run overall though. They remind me of a mini Homestead from about 8 years ago lol.

Homestead has a cool show! Very homestead though. Almost Cavaliers like show from this year. Lots of runs from the woodwinds and high brass, still needs a lot of cleaning but tons of potential. I think they played their whole show

Overall the run this afternoon was ok. Still lots to clean (TRUMPETS) but it definitely looked like a full show to me also.

Is it just me or does that ballad drag on just a bit. The last part hasn’t won me over yet.

I’m curious to see what they add this year since they are known to add a little “magic” to their ending each season. Im thinking we will see the rusted walls fill with color. Will be exciting to see what happens. If they propel themselves all the way to the end of the season and they clean, clean, clean we will see them in finals. No questions. I will be heading out to Toledo tonight for finals so I'm excited to see them in person and not just on video/stream.

They still had time built into the schedule for awards announcements. And they have always announced class placements regardless...
