Since you are new here you clearly haven’t been informed that there is usually a band in the 15-20 range at SA that would totally win Grand Nats but never go. 😎 New to this forum, but not new to HS Bands... we've been to every GN finals since 1996. Lived in Houston TX for 5 years .... attended many of the Regionals at Rice University ... but have also attended over 50 regionals in TX since around 1998. Know quite a bit about the Bands in TX, no doubt they are very entertaining and high caliber units. But...Just in the past 10 years Avon, Carmel and Broken Arrow have scored higher than: Cedar Ridge Hebron Keller Leander SF Austin Vista Ridge Cedar Park Flower Mound James Bowie Round Rock CT Johnson LD Bell Marcus Reagan Woodlands some many times.... So they have proven themselves against TX Bands... that's all. They deserve the same level respect. That's all. This is a superior take good sir ☺️

I remember last year Blue Springs' show designer basically went out and stated that they designed their 2021 show to be a step down in difficulty in order to better recover from the off year. I'm extremely excited to see what they do this year though since, I'm fully expecting BS to return to the level of show design they had in 18-19.

Mason - Now that the movie has been a success at the box office, are we in for Top Gun 2? No, of course not. It would be "Maverick".

No need to do that when thy typically beat them at Nats.... They can flex. Carmel has never beaten some Texas schools that have attended grand Nats, they still need to look out👀especially if they did venture into Texas to the San Antonio regional once again, any out-of-state powerhouses are always welcome to show!! Check the reults for last year... earliest exampe and go back as far as you need to. Avon actually went to San Antonio in 2017, i think that's the year, and placed 4th... and has beaten the 3 schools that placed above them since then. Broken Arrow, Carmel and AVon have proven themselves against Texas Bands. These three bands that are referenced in the original post have off years just like any band in TX and to suggest they are not on the same level is a little short sighted... i get the bias ... but I don't think it's based in much historical fact.

Just that it would be another challenge if they were ever able to come.

I'm extremely excited to see what they do this year though since, I'm fully expecting BS to return to the level of show design they had in 18-19. I know many programs did the same/made changes to their show design so that the students could ease into everything. Obviously not all programs will have fully recovered in the 1-2 years but I'm excited to hopefully see many programs start moving back into full gear.

Saw it mentioned earlier in the thread, but I’m excited to see what Rouse puts out this year. Really hoping they can keep this upward trajectory going. That Nimrod ballad last year was *chefs kiss*

That Nimrod ballad last year was *chefs kiss* For me, it was right after the ballad, that low brass feature, then the whole band came in, makes me get goosebumps every single time. I believe that song was also used for Carolina Crown's 2018 Opener.

That Nimrod ballad last year was *chefs kiss* We can’t talk about bands to watch out for without mentioning Rouse. The growth they’ve had over just the past few years is ridiculous!! They blew me away back at San Antonio in 2018 and they’re in a whole other echelon now.

I'm personally really hoping they medal at Austin and win Waco. Such a "small" (Texas 5A small is big) but mighty band!

The rumor, on decent authority, floating around OKC bands is that Mustang’s theme is Prom. It’s call “At the Party” or something like that. Ohh they could have a really fun time with musical selections for that. Mustang is one of my top 5 most anticipated groups to see this year for sure! me too!!!

I've never actually been to Texas but I have a friend that goes to university there and he basically has confirmed my suspicions that King of the Hill is more like a documentary on the daily going-ons of Texans rather than a comedy show.

Thursday - arrive in San Antonio, if early enough hit the Riverwalk Friday - lots of band (BOA) Saturday - lots of band (BOA) Sunday - be a tourist (lots of options) AND hit the Riverwalk Monday - lots of band (UIL) Tuesday - lots of band (UIL) Wednesday - lots of band (UIL) Late Wednesday or early Thursday - fly to Indianapolis for Grand Nationals Who knows? You may get to enjoy as many as 7 performances by a single band!

Sadly, to work staff at Grand Nationals I would have to miss the Wednesday UIL.

It was crazy but I loved it!

Jog around the concourse lol. I'd also like to add that y'all are forgetting the Alamo. Which you should never do. 😜 Really worth a visit too in SA.

I attended a dress rehearsal at Brownsburg last night - I'm not revealing any secrets to say that it is definitely a "Wes" show with a recognizable Brownsburg look and feel (we're a bit dark and we like it). This year's uniforms are a little more modern, and overall the show is ahead of where last year's was at this time. Can't wait to see how the season progresses!

I saw a picture of the props this year and it's....a lot lol. Look forward to seeing it later this year! Brownsburg keeps improving year over year for sure. Sky's the limit I feel for them now so gotta keep an eye on them. Going to push a lot of regular power bands soon. Already were last year.

What to look for with me....tearing out what's left of my hair when people on here/BOA refer to bands on recaps, etc. as "band name, H.S., state". Drives me up a wall.

My better half is on the props building/semi loading crew, and those things are a bear. They do look amazing on the field with the kids in uniform, though. I'm hoping that before next season Wes hits a "less is more" phase....

Maybe I’ll do it this year!

I know it's nit-picky, but it just drives me nuts.
