Those of y’all that have not seen Lincoln's show yet. You HAVE to tune into St. Louis or find your way to YIM. I can't stop thinking about it!!

New to this forum, but not new to HS Bands... we've been to every GN finals since 1996. Lived in Houston TX for 5 years .... attended many of the Regionals at Rice University ... but have also attended over 50 regionals in TX since around 1998. Know quite a bit about the Bands in TX, no doubt they are very entertaining and high caliber units. But...Just in the past 10 years Avon, Carmel and Broken Arrow have scored higher than: Cedar Ridge Hebron Keller Leander SF Austin Vista Ridge Cedar Park Flower Mound James Bowie Round Rock CT Johnson LD Bell Marcus Reagan Woodlands some many times.... So they have proven themselves against TX Bands... that's all. They deserve the same level respect. That's all. This is a superior take good sir ☺️ Respect they have had for decades and yes they seemingly score closely on BOA books but listen to this Avon production subjectively and tell me if you think they are on the same level in terms of Music demand and execution as the other Elites good sir… (same date) Hebron, BA, FM, Vandy and Cedar Ridge performance! I dare ya! Search 2022,2021,2020 etc…. You will find the same results

I dare ya! I admire your persistence but it’s just. So. Tiring. Maybe…just maybe…you don’t know all things about music book difficulty? Or playing eighth notes instead of half notes isn’t the pillar of musical nuance you believe it to be? So let’s use Occam’s Razor here. Is it more likely that the conspiracy across BOA is so well coordinated that all of the trained adjudicators are ignoring the clearly superior skills of the Lone Star bands and propping up inferior bands music scores simply because they look nice? OR….is it more likely that there are subtle difficulties to music books that you just don’t get and that adjudicators do? I vote the latter. The bands you champion are amazing. So are many others that don’t call Texas home. And when they get together in the same place and compete, one band wins. And when it isn’t a Texas band, it’s not because of bias against music. It’s just. So. Tiring.

Maybe I just disagree with your position? Occams Razor would make sense in this debate if only these circuit adjudication were not so subjective considering several school of thoughts (OSSAA, UIL, USBands etc). Includes all circuits who haven’t totally adopted BOA adjudications books yet. Conspiracy??? Texas, Oklahoma or Florida’s Tarpon Springs don’t always come out on top at BOA events but many, many, many other people (fans) look for other skills in a band other than just having and executing design genius(Carmels Gaines etc). I don’t see the issue in endorsing and expressing my position. Feel free to show me how you feel I am wrong again. “Opposing Position”

Right after calling into question the skill and difficulty of elite bands not fortunate enough to call Texas home. You can’t have it both ways where you fling grandiose judgement against other programs’ accomplishments and then claim that it is shameful to question the basis for your own analysis. I’m sure you will continue to express you opinions all over HR and I welcome it. Just don’t feign offense when someone asks you why your opinion matters.

While I would hate to flog a dead horse I feel I must respond. 1: Our conversation is only the tail end of a longer thread started a while back. I was pressing only those theories (see thread) 2: Trying to paint a picture of my position being of a variation “Lonestar State against the world “ is a smoke screen. I clearly mention BA and Tarpon. As I always do. 3: My contention is not that people disagree with my position (I encourage it) rather an acknowledgment that many from other camps on this Forum resort to a “maybe you don’t know what your talking about” type argumentation. Your not the first! I’m human and so this will incite a response. I did graduate with a music degree from UNT many many many years back before I realized how much band directors actually made back then so I started a business instead. Lol 4: You do realize that adjudicators from USBands, UIL and many other State music associations don’t buy the BOA philosophy right? 5: All programs have their strengths. Some are regional. Others are inherit to the culture that their particular state have adopted. Stating this fact does not degrade successes in or towards any other program. I can go on and on but I’m enjoying Indy thus far. Rooting for Castle and Homestead. If love to see them in finals! We can all Agree to Disagree amicably so I shall do my part better.

Really appreciate the thoughtful response. It's just old. And your comments often appear as thinly-veiled attacks on certain regions or bands and their accomplishments using unsupported arguments. If you prefer a certain style, that's up to you for sure and I think we all should respect each other's preferences. But when a band you don't favor excels, maybe hold on bashing the circuit, the competition, or the show and remember that it's just band and these kids deserve acknowledgement. It beats the subjective refrains of "yeah, but if the best bands were there, it would be different" or "BOA's bias is why we didn't win". Those of us who lurk HR, can set our watches to it every year. But we do agree on this one point - I'd love to see Castle and Homestead in finals as well. Peace.

Well since I started this thread, I feel I should calm the tension here. The Texas vs Indiana debate has raged for decades. Being from Michigan I kind of get a kick out of it. It is like being the younger child and always watching your older siblings fight.
Both Indiana and Texas have been big players in the success of BOA. Let's face it, those two states have amazing bands. Yes they differ stylistically, but my gosh all of us from other states envy both Indiana and Texas for their marching band programs.
I actually think the last couple of decades Indiana bands have been pushing Texas bands on the visual front while Texas has been pushing Indiana bands on the music front. Heck, maybe I should not try to intervene in the debate as it seems to be making the bands better all around.

Indiana bands don’t have enough trombones. Texas bands don’t have enough color guard. Broken Arrow has both. Oklahoma is the best

I hate these kind of convos because we all know this ends with Ohio taking over.

I hate these kind of convos because we all know this ends with Ohio taking over. I do love me some Kettering Ohio but considering the indoor circuit reverb. Carmel and Avon might have an assisted advantage (+2) this indoor contest. I still see Missouri taking it tomorrow! Visually and Musically.
