I get what you mean. It’s like, they’re all high schools, that’s what we’re doing here, guys.
Reminds me of my pet peeve: people who yell “Go band!” at a band competition. No one yells “Go football!” at Bama vs Auburn.

I saw a picture of the props this year and it's....a lot lol. Look forward to seeing it later this year! Brownsburg keeps improving year over year for sure. Sky's the limit I feel for them now so gotta keep an eye on them. Going to push a lot of regular power bands soon. Already were last year. LOL - You're telling me on the props. My better half is on the props building/semi loading crew, and those things are a bear. They do look amazing on the field with the kids in uniform, though. I'm hoping that before next season Wes hits a "less is more" phase.... I’m looking forward to their show! Cartwright is a genius. I’m assuming he did Broken Arrow’s 2006 show that won GN’s. I don’t remember any props that show. There was another one for Broken Arrow. A year they didn’t go to grand nationals. It was the season they went to Atlanta? Could be wrong

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean? I'm either not understanding or am guilty of this. I HATE when, for example, bands are referred to as "Carmel H.S., IN." Just call them Carmel, IN. I know it's nit-picky, but it just drives me nuts. Insert ClintEastwoodOldManStare.gif

Since other things to look out for this season: *Does Homestead make a bounce back? From what I've seen this do far this year, they are smaller, but feel much improved from this point last year. Could be leaner, but "meaner". I don't know. I still have friends who are close to the program and I don't hear many positive things. A phase passed on to me was "The finish line was in 2019. We no longer believe." The impression I get is that there isn't much confidence there about the future. It makes me sad. I just hope that I'm getting distorted information.

I’m not in the program but I do attend the Tuesday / Thursday evening practices regularly. Just from an outside prospective that’s not the case at all. Everyone seems very energetic, there is great turnout and support from parents and the community, and compared to this time last year they are in a far better spot when when comes to just about every aspect of performance quality. They are learning the show completely different to the “norm” that they have done for so many years, and in my opinion it is paying off. The first three parts really seem to be coming together nicely. Your source must be OldSchoolTrumpet 🤔🫣😂

They would be fairly recent graduates who would had marched mostly under Wadkins. I accept that they may have poor attitudes about the changes there. I am happy to hear that you think they are looking good on the field. In the future I'll keep the hearsay out of any posts.

Until you see a group in person (or at least some video), it's always best to take any kind of hype in perspective. So I get that you wouldn't necessarily take our word for it nor should you. These are just our opinions. Now my opinions are built on following this activity after I graduated for over 15+ years (feeling old on that) so I like to think I know a little more in my observations (see profile name lol), but in the end, they are just opinions. Just like a movie, a film could have super positive or negative reviews, but until you get a chance to see it for yourself, you may end up having a totally opposite reaction. However the season pans out, I shall still be a Spartan fan. For better or worse. It comes with the territory of perpetually being a fan of an underdog (go Ball State!). 😂😁

Check the reults for last year... earliest exampe and go back as far as you need to. Avon actually went to San Antonio in 2017, i think that's the year, and placed 4th... and has beaten the 3 schools that placed above them since then. Broken Arrow, Carmel and AVon have proven themselves against Texas Bands. These three bands that are referenced in the original post have off years just like any band in TX and to suggest they are not on the same level is a little short sighted... i get the bias ... but I don't think it's based in much historical fact. I feel like I missed something . I don't think anyone is saying that Avon, Carmel, Broken Arrow, and others aren't respected or that they wouldn't do well if they were to come to San Antonio. Just that it would be another challenge if they were ever able to come. if you look further back... the original statement was "My take from all that is that Broken Arrow, Carmel and Avon need to make regular trips to San Antonio, DFW, Houston and Austin so they can flex their muscles a bit and go head to head with some bands that can challenge them."... and then it was later based in "sarcasm"... or something like that.

I saw a video of both CTJ and Coppell recently and both seen to have insanely challenging shows this season. The drill in particular for both bands is top notch which honestly surprised me since both bands were a little lighter on the visual side last year compared to their contemporaries. CTJ is playing Jupiter so there isn't much to talk about musically yet until they put more out, but Coppell is playing Metropolis 1927 which, is an exceedingly difficult piece to put on a field and pull off.
I don't doubt that CTJ will (probably hopefully) be able to pull it off by the end of the season but I feel like Coppell's designers might have bit off more than it can chew out of confidence from last season. They are doing great for September though so, they definitely could punch even higher than they did last year.
I saw Castle too, though I'm going to refrain from commenting because I heard the weather that night was horrible and it's not really fair to judge cleanliness if that's true.

From someone who was there (not me), Castle has upped drill difficulty and music (which was needed) I know they have around 100 freshman winds. Might take a good part of the season for them to be hitting on all cylinders.

Just saw a video of AF. They have their full show on (I think) and it’s pretty clean for mid-September. I couldn’t get a good read on visual because the angle was low, but musically they have a lot of good content. GN finals is definitely realistic for them.

American Fork has also posted a brass warm up sequence and some “hype” videos on their YouTube channel. Monday was their first public performance of the show. I’ve heard they’re a little stingy on full runs being posted due to possible copyright issues so we might not get a good look at them until November

I remember last year Blue Springs' show designer basically went out and stated that they designed their 2021 show to be a step down in difficulty in order to better recover from the off year. I'm extremely excited to see what they do this year though since, I'm fully expecting BS to return to the level of show design they had in 18-19. Their show theme is quite different this year than what we are used to from them 🙂 I hope they can bring it back since Covid, making finals by .05 was a clencher for sure.

They’re looking great. Not a super out-of-left field band to look out for though very expected success after their two strong finishes last year.
